"Say NO to the Resettlement Program in Algoa Park – Protect Our Community!"

We, the residents of Algoa Park, strongly oppose the proposed resettlement program in our community. With a population of 13,982, our infrastructure is already stretched beyond its limits, teetering on the edge of collapse.

This program threatens to exacerbate existing service failures and infringe upon our fundamental human rights.

Our community is plagued by:Crumbling Infrastructure: Basic services like water, electricity, and sanitation are barely holding up under current demand.Failing Street Lighting: Only 132 of 882 street lights are operational, leaving 85% of our streets shrouded in darkness and compromising our safety.

Inadequate Policing: Just two police vans serve the entire area, leaving residents vulnerable and unprotected.Adding more strain through resettlement is a direct circumvention of our rights as enshrined in the South African Constitution and international human rights standards, including:

Right to Dignity (Section 10): Overburdened services degrade our quality of life.

Right to Security (Section 12): Insufficient lighting and policing endanger our safety.

Right to Adequate Housing (Section 26): Existing residents deserve functional infrastructure before expansion. We demand that the authorities halt this resettlement program and prioritize repairing and upgrading Algoa Park’s infrastructure to meet the needs of its current residents. Our voices must be heard—Algoa Park says NO!
