I live across from an ever growing encampment at the old Brookside school. We witness drug use, garbage accumulation that requires staff in hazmat suits, and are afraid to go out after dark. Need I go on!!

We can’t have that in our community is too small, we will get overrun by this individuals

Government needs to do something about the Cobourg encampment now or give the town more power to enforce.

I'm signing this petition because Durham Region is repeating mistakes, that other politicians have made. They are ruining residential areas where children and schools are, by opening low barrier shelters. They manipulate the population by displaying on television that families are sleeping in cars in Whitby, yet when the shelter is opening, it seems to not have space for those very same 'families'. They are knowingly creating an unsafe environment. This is Canada, not a third world country. We should not be alright with needles, condoms and garbage being all around. We need to help people get their lives back on track, not make them depend on the system for the rest of their lives.

Low barrier shelters in residential neighborhoods pose a huge risk to safety of neighborhoods as has been shown In other neighborhoods where they have been put.

I'm signing this because everyone knows that these type of drugs are not meant for long-term use. But for hospital short term use, it is not safe to continue to have people inject people and allow them to inject people.
Communities are falling apart because people continue to let this happen

It’s ruining our communities I’ve never seen so many drug addicted and homeless people in our area but now it’s common. People need a purpose not better access to drugs

Because I am tired of this dystopian set up and lack of personal responsibility on an individual
Open up mental hospitals for the mentally ill help seniors and veterans first
Give a hand up to able working bodies not a hand out

Why did Government say yes to drugs. Did we forgot the war on drugs in 1980 and 1990s. We are repeating the same mistakes again and again in a big way. This is bad. Government should have thought what happens if they say to drugs. Total ban of drugs is the only solution.

Bharath Reddy (London, 2024-01-01)

I believe it is time for all levels of government to work together for a solution to the problems of drug addiction, mental health and homelessness. They all need to do better.

Safety in our communities for the tax and paying and contributing citizens should be priority #1. The safety of our children , families, homes (and in many cases our life savings ) are being cast aside. Low barrier shelters should have no place in our residential areas. House and treat addictions facilities placed elsewhere. We are paying for all of this nonsense. Enough

A low barrier shelter opened in my residential neighbourhood and has consistently caused disturbances, violence, enabled drug use, destruction of personal property, trespassing and this happens daily. It’s wrong.

We need to keep our loved ones safe and informed . We have the right to know who our children and families are in contact and exposed to. Too many have been injured, traumatized and killed. This country does NOT do enough to protect society its most vulnerable. Inforce laws to protect both the innocent and the mentally ill, until then we as a society need support and resources to be protected, kept safe and informed.

The current harm reduction strategy is not working. We need a new way of dealing with individuals suffering from drug addiction issues one that focuses on reducing their drug dependence and making healthy choices

Being a recovered crack addict, I used for over 18 years, now clean for over 9 years, I do not feel that enabling addicts is the solution. I believe that detox sites are what is needed. Thank you for what you do. Our children and grandchildren deserve a safe place to live their lives in the future.

My city is not safe anymore with a low barrier shelter in a residential neighborhood near the the downtown area. Drug addicts everywhere asking even demanding & attacking people for money. Vandalism, break-ins, shootings…our police are relocating. We do not feel safe. They all carry knives, we are not safe… it must stop. SIS need to be closed! Shelters need to be high barrier only!

I love in a central hub for drug use and crime. With that being said I am neighbouring a school. I see on a daily basis, people talking over, overdosing, being walked past while sleeping on the actual sidewalk. There is a police cruiser with lights in my view daily. I have brought up concerns to the police, to the school. I work well with my neighbours on keeping this area safe. It has rusuled in me purchasing a 500$ camera system because my other ones were unplugged. Christmas lights ripped down. I have countless video of Midsomer crimes, I report to the police often. Aside from this I have children, who are deemed as walkers because of distance. I advocated for removing the homeless from under the bridge because they started approaching me and my children. We have seen assults, robberies, the sale of drugs, all reported of course, and all while playing in my back yard. Help is needed. I am in my mid thirties, always been law abiding, and now I'm subjected to this, and my kids are. It's not warrented and something needs to be done. I, as a citizen am willing to help fix the problem, as I'm sure alot of people are, not Ignore it. Let's fix it.

Detox and rehabilitation should be the main goals to treat those addicted to drugs, as well as alcohol!! These terrible dangerous habits should be weaned off and not encouraged. Also, healthy diet and lifestyle needs to be promoted. Addiction and mental health need to be treated together, along with therapy whether inpatient or outpatient on a consistent basis.

Because I now live in crackerville. My once lovely neighborhood now filled with living violent zombies. They break into homes take what they want assault you if your home, you cant walk the streets, nothing and no one is safe. They all carry concealed weapons like knives. My home was my retirement plan now it is worth nothing after paying for it 25 yrs. I do not get tax breaks, I work hard for what little I have. I work 8 hrs a day in constant pain, then go home to live in fear that some drugged out lunatic will harm me or my family. Shootings every other week when it was maybe once every 5 yrs before if that! Seniors trapped in their homes cause of fear of the drugged out addicts. Legit homeless ppl scared to use any homeless services for fear of being robbed, and assaulted both physically and sexually by the addicts that frequent those places.

No real help for the addicts its all enabling them. They are given everything free, while we work ourselves to death to pay for these ppl who commit crimes and contribute 0 to our communities. We should not have to pay for their addiction. I am alll for a proper proven treatment centre that actually gets them off drugs and back to being productive members of society. But not this stop enabling and stop using our hard earned money to do it!

Be like ALBERTA not BC did you see what has become of BC since Trudeau legalized hard drugs there? It makes no sense unless he meant to destroy the province. Which is really starting to look like thats his plan. Destroy all our communities with these zombies.

Drugs and crime are taking over our city. I no longer feel safe. The safe injection site and low barrier shelter in Timmins has caused crime rates and the circulation of dangerous opioids in our neighborhoods. I have children and a granddaughter whom I want protected. Get rid of these facilities..
