It is very important to the children and families.

I went Randolph as a student. I still run into students from the SAC program from my time then. Now I teach at Randolph and the SAC class comes to my room every other day for adapted music. We use boom whackers and sing and practice skills related to timing, speech, following directions, and daily routines. Our students learn skills to help them become as close to independent as they can be. Randolph is the right place for this program. We are a diverse school that does not want to lose this vital part of our community. Please sign, share, and write emails and letters to help everyone see the vitality of this program for our most vulnerable students.

I care about Special Education. I'm a mother who has fought for 11grades to keep my daughter in a fair IDEA school environment! Please allow A fair education to ALL students- Randolph Middle students deserve to be treated fairly

This program creates a safe environment for kids who would otherwise struggle in schools, and helps them grow to be comfortable around all students. It doesn't separate them or single them out, I saw how high school students who had been in this program their whole lives benefited from it with good social skills and the ability to come out of their shell.

Keeping the program at Randolph is the right thing to do.

I was a peer buddy at Randolph middle school Sac program

#35

I am signing because this program was a wonderful way to integrate all students in a real world setting. Special Ed and Mainstream students interacted, learned, and worked together...and became friends.

I'm signing because I go to Randolph middle and I know Ben and I know that he's learning at school and he has touched my heart ❤️ so that is why I'm signing

(Charlotte , 2016-12-31)

I have witnessed firsthand how valuable this program is at Randolph. It's a win-win for all the students.

(Huntersville, 2016-12-31)

I enjoyed thoroughly being able to spend time working with the special education class during my time at randolph, and it's extremely important that others are afforded the same opportunity. This classroom contributes to the diversity of the school, and gives people irreplaceable memories and experiences.

I believe in the teachers and children in this program. Diversity is the key to a good education and taking this program away from Randolph will only limit what all (students in and out of the program) should be aware of that is the "real" world.

(Charlotte, NC, 2016-12-31)

#60

I have a special needs child and I believe all children can benefit from including special needs programs in schools.

(Monroe, 2016-12-31)

#64

This program is beneficial in so many ways...the system should have given the community the right to speak before making this decision.

(Huntersville, 2016-12-31)

#66

Families with special needs children deserve as many options as families with typical children. Removing programs is doing a disservice to families who already have to put in an extra fight daily.

(Matthews , 2016-12-31)

#67

I've been working with children 26 years, in that time 7 years was with special ed children. These children need us and each other to grow. They just want to be loved and to learn. They can be whoever they want in life, if people just let them.

(Rosamond , 2016-12-31)

#69

Special Education options are important for children with special needs

(Waxhaw, 2016-12-31)

#70

This is a long standing, successful program that benefits the entire student and teacher body at Randolph Middle. RMS is no one's "neighborhood" school but everyone is there because they WANT to be there and create their own RMS neighborhood in which the SAC program is a vital member. Do not move this program and scatter it around the county, invest in the current success to make it even better!

(Charlotte, 2016-12-31)

#71

This program is critical both typical and Jon typical students...

(Charlotte , 2016-12-31)

#73

I am a public school teacher who sees the benefit of specialized or differentiated education. But I also believe that typical children need to learn compassion and acceptance, and special neess children need exposure to typical children as well.

(Cameron NC, 2016-12-31)

#78

I am signing because every child needs an education

(Griswold , 2016-12-31)

#80

My daughter was a physical education assistant for a special needs students when she was in middle school. She loved it and it taught her so much about acceptance and compassion for people different from her.

(Charlotte, 2016-12-31)

#90

I'm signing because SAC program Is wonderful for students with disabliltes to feel be peaceful and supportive.

(Charlotte , 2016-12-31)

#95

I'm signing because I am a former special education teacher at Randolph Middle. I witnessed first hand the benefits of the student interactions with peers and staff at the school. I believe it is in the best interest of the students involved to remain in a facility where the staff know and love the children and are trained to assist their educational needs.

(Woodruff, 2016-12-31)

I am a parent of a child with a disability who had Oakhurst Elementary School taken from my child and it was a huge injustice. Parents really know best!

(Charlotte , 2016-12-31)

#101

My son attends Randolph Middle School in the IB program and I would like for him to continue learning alongside students with disabilites. It is a win win situation for both populations. The students in the SAC program and their families deserve continuity in their programming.

(Charlotte , 2016-12-31)

#103

Special education is important.

(Cary, 2017-01-01)

#106

One of the teachers is my wife. She has helped create a program which had benefitted both her students and the general student population. It is amazing when she meets former students out in public and they tell her how much her programs impacted their lives. This program deserves to remain at Randolph and instead of ending it, how about duplicating at other schools, you would see benefits going forward

(Charlotte , 2017-01-01)

#107

My fiancé is a teacher at Randolph and I understand how important this program is to these families

(Charlotte, 2017-01-01)

#108

It is of utmost importance for everyone to feel accepted and part of the community, so this program should remain in place to encourage this cooperation and community growth.

(Durham, 2017-01-01)

#113

I have a child in this class and I am a retired CMS employee who worked in this class at Randolph as an Interpreter for deaf students.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-01)

#118

I am a retired RMS teacher. The SAC program helped us all to grow as member of the human race.

(Matthews, 2017-01-01)

#125

I believe in the program. I am a paraplegic myself and having the support program is key.

(Huntersville, 2017-01-01)

#136

I'm a retired EC teacher assistant and a current CMS substitute. It would be a disservice to these beautiful children, if you dissolve the SAC classes at Randolph Middle School and displace great teachers. Noelle Glass was a teach of the year a few years ago and in know her for many years as well as being her class assistant. Please do not do this. Please keep the SAC classes at Randolph where they belong. Thank you.

(Matthews, 2017-01-01)

#141

As a former employee at RMS and having taught special education in my earlier years of teaching, I see no reason to take away this incredible valuable program. All regular students, as well as special needs students, need to be exposed to one another. The acceptance and admiration between the two bodies of children is an important part of growth and healthy development. Please reconsider such a move . It is poorly thought out and so wrong! Keep this program at RMS!

(Matthews, 2017-01-02)

#142

I am a special needs physical therapist and strongly believe in inclusion programs. We are a society that needs full inclusion to teach each other tolerance and decrease isolation in our thinking as a society.

(Raleigh, 2017-01-02)

#143

Education is a right that all are entitled to. Phasing out this valuable form of education further disenfranchises families and students dealing with special needs. CMS should strongly consider its mission statement and the impact such a move would have on the children and families who already face enormous challenges.
Public education and public schools are the rightful and ideal place for these students. Our tax money should support ALL students.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-02)

#145

I want special education (SAC) to stay at Randolph middle.

(Charlotte , 2017-01-02)

#148

As a retired CMS employee who worked directly with this program, I can attest to its value to the students, the school, and the district itself. Not all students want or need to be in neighborhood schools, nor is that the best option for all. And SHAME on CMS for combining AU and SAC classes! Students should be educated based on needs, not labels.

(Huntersville, 2017-01-02)

#149

This program needs to be continued!

(Charlotte , 2017-01-02)

#151

I am a teacher in CMS and a parent of young adult with autism. Its important to keep students around their typical peers to help with social skills and to educate others about "different" abilities.

(Stanley, 2017-01-02)

#152

I can't understand why you would eliminate a program that is obviously working.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-02)

#157

I believe the diversity is important to the special needs students and the typical students

(Charlotte NC, 2017-01-03)

#160

My children go to Randolph and I work there. I see the benefits and positive effects of the interactions between the students of the SAC, Horizon and regular classrooms.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

#163

Transparency in our processes and decision making is critical.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

#164

I am signing this because I am also a mother of a special needs child who is 5. Socialization with children is important and home school is sometimes not the best of options, as well as intertwining the autism program with others.

(Charlotte , 2017-01-03)

We have a beautiful, new grandson with Down Syndrome who lives in Dublin, Ireland where they have access to an incredible early intervention free support network. But, they also own a home in Plaza Midwood. I want CMS families to have the support they need.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

#176

Every child deserves his/her right to a public education and have their needs met. As a prior pre-school teacher we worked with 2 children they were diagnosed with Autism. We didn't throw them out, we added a third teacher and made everyone in our class have a wonderful year.
Don't let our children down!

(Matthews, 2017-01-03)

#178

I'm signing because my 3 year old has special needs and will soon need a program like this one.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

#182

Having volunteered in the developmentally disabled adult community, I support programs that encourage inclusion for these generally underserved individuals.

(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

#183

My nephew needs great opportunities!

(Concord, 2017-01-03)

#189

WHY?!? integration is IMPORTANT! Come on CMS, do NOT change programs that are thriving. thank you.
