Create a Minister of Mental Health

Our mental health system has no chain of action. Reaching out for help is like a deer running into a lake to get away from the wolves. Eventually you have to come out and there is no help.

The great need for this support in our country.

Mental health is in all families somewhere at sometime and it is the most devastating illness of all yet does not get enough funding support and recognition!

I have a 30 year old daughter who could be employed, if the proper working conditions and hours were considered. There is no middle mental health supports. There is no laws to protect my daughter from being taken advantage of, over and over, just for having a good heart. People like her can be easily manipulated by street people, sex offenders, etc. NO LAWS !!
Due to the high needs of the aboriginal people and the lack of northern services, our relationship current health structure cannot be supported.
Saskatchewan would greatly benefit from having its own Mental Health Minister. As a tax payer, I'm not concerned living in a province with a separate structure, nor should Jim Reiter, as it appears he is. If anything, it would show that Sask is a leader, is truly concerned about ALL their citizens.

Mental health affects so many people directly or indirectly and continues to get worse. We need to have more focus on mental health

(Regina, 2017-01-20)

#610

Our health system needs this to happen.

(saskatchewan, 2017-01-21)

I understand the unacceptable wait times expected of those needing mental health services.

(Estevan, 2017-01-21)

I believe that mental health needs to be up front and centre not only in cities but also in small towns and villages. There needs to be help more readily available for all that suffer. It can be managed if there are the right resources available but a lot of times there aren't. Leading sufferers down a horrible spiral of despair and no way out of their problems that plague their brains/minds.

Mental health issues are on the rise. Self-medication, self mutilation, suicides, alcohol and illegal drug use are also on the rise, beginning with children as early as the elementary school level. These issues are not being dealt with early enough or broadly enough to get ahead of the epidemic. It is far too broad an issue to be lumped in with "health", and needs a leader to address it specifically.

I'm signing because my family has been dealing with the effects of mental illness for 2 generations and the tragic consequences of inadequate health care.

I believe having a mental health minister would be a huge asset to our province. Access to quick treatment for mental health is extremely important in my books.

(Regina , 2017-01-25)

#642

I'm signing because everyone is affected by mental health in one way or another.

(Qu'Appelle, 2017-01-26)

#643

I am signing because I have struggled and fought this disease for the last 28 years and we need more support. It is so needed and just not accessible without wait times etc. It's unacceptable when some one is in need of life or death help it is absolutely unacceptable to be turned away. I hope this petition helps!!

(Balgonie, 2017-01-26)

#650

There is not enough help for those with Mental illness.

(Regina, 2017-01-26)

I have witnessed the system and it fails miserably all the psychiatrists want to do is prescribe drugs without listening to the patients to get a proper diagnosis

(MOOSE JAW, 2017-03-21)

Mental Health needs more awareness than it has. Our society needs change.

(Caronport, 2017-04-19)

Mental Health in my experience does the bare minimum to keep people out of hospital. There is very little set up for support of family caring for and watching loved ones struggle. The fact that people literally have to be in crisis to be treated seriously, proves what a broken system we have. Less funding will only make things worse.

(Esterhazy, 2017-05-15)

#673

I and many friends and family suffer with mental illness

(Moose Jaw , 2017-06-22)

Police cant....doctors cant ...nothing!!! He is fighting a battle at the moment and is not ok to be on his own.....and no help???? This is only one person i know ...there are many others....im sick of watching people dying and having no help

I work in Healthcare and I see 1st hand that people can slip through three cracks.

(Wapella, 2017-07-07)

#676

As a family member of someone with mental illness I have experienced first hand the gaps in this system that increase individuals chances of getting sicker rather than better. Please take time to read and sign.

(Regina , 2017-07-07)

Having an invisible illness is causing patients to be treated like they are invisible. Patients are ignored. "Talk to someone. Get help." HOW!!? Saskatchewan!! Put your money where your mouth is! People are in need. My family members are in need! Aren't their lives as valuable as the person beside them who has a visible injury?

(Saskatoon, 2017-07-07)

Mental health is important. People with mental health issues suffer isolation and depression . Can't work. They are highly susceptible to addiction ,which leads to crime and put them in a high risk environment. It's costly to us all. It's excruciating to them. Our society as a whole would be much better off if their were more programs . Treatments and treatment facilities.

I suffer from Bipolar 2, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. My 20 year old daughter has similar disorders. I have to fight for her even when I can barely fight for myself.

(Saskatoon, 2017-08-17)

#686

My daughter and I have a similar story and the system has failed us many times I hope she survives the neglect of the government

(Kingston, 2017-10-18)

I agree. We need to try something new and I can't think of one reason not to try this!

(Battleford , 2018-04-01)

I have 2 children struggling with mental health issues and have been shafted by the current system time and time again.

(Outlook, 2018-05-03)
