Analytic Philosophy Department in Zagreb to be closed down

I think it would a shame to close such an internationally active and respected Department. I had the opportunity to meet many interesting scholars in the course of the events organized by the Department, and I think that all these efforts to make Zagreb (and Croatia) more included and known by international academic circles should be rewarded -and certainly not interrupted!

I sign this petition because I believe that Analytic Philosophy is extremely important to pursue any academic studies in liberal arts and sciences. Logical analysis of philosophical and scientific view points are necessary to resolve conflicts and issues that the humanity encounters in everyday life. In the globalized era it is extremely important to note the philosophical foundation of all disciplines of knowledge. I have visited this Department in Zagreb and some of your colleagues have come to IIT Bombay and contributed to academic events and research. My sincere appeal to the authorities is to understand its significance before closing down. I feel extremely sorry to hear this news that Analytic Philosophy Dept in Zagreb to be closed down. Analytic Philosophy offers one of the finest philosophical method/ and its tradition is well known in 2oth century. In India it is accepted as one of very popular and finest Philosophical tradition. I would request the authority to reconsider its value. Long Live Analytic Philosophy.

This is a fine group of philosophers, doing good work. Their brand of philosophy is at the very heart of all university education. Without its subject-matter and its particular approach to philosophy an institution calling itself a university is nothing more than a glorified trade school.

Yet another attempt to silence the voices of reason on the Balkans, due to them being inconvenient to the political powers that be. Today it is their department, tomorrow - your own. We should not let this pass quietly, unnoticed.

The analytic philosophy community in Croatia does good work and deserves international support.

Closing down the department is suppression of critical thought in a time where it is direly needed.

I am a professional philosopher. I have had wonderfully enriching interactions with analytic philosophers from all over Croatia. The community of analytic philosophers in Croatia is vibrant. Zagreb, in particular, is an important institute for the philosophy of science.

I'm signing because the closure of any philosophy department at a major institution of higher education is the dissolution of that university. There is no university without a philosophy department, as it is the home of the academy.

The department has some excellent people doing research over there and the students are some of the most engaged and passionate about philosophy anywhere in the world. Closure of the department would be a significant loss for the international community as well as for Croatia.
