Abby should be able to have her chickens!

These hens are a great opportunity to teach a child the skill of self-preservation, responsibility, and where our food comes from. They're more than just pets, they're helping teach great life skills. Something many teens and even adults lack! Kudos to these parents for trying to instill good values, morals, and work ethic into their child. Other parents should take note.

Chickens in a fenced in yard pose no harm to neighbors.

(Eau claire, 2017-05-15)

#26

I don't see anything wrong with a little girl having pet chickens!

(Milwaukee, 2017-05-15)

#28

I believe Waterford should allow backyard chickens. Other surrounding communities allow it, including city of Racine.

(Waterford, 2017-05-15)

#30

Abby deserves her chickens! ❤️

(Elkhorn, 2017-05-15)

#36

Abby should be able to have chickens on her own property!

(Waterford, 2017-05-16)

I do not see the problem with chickens that are kept within the fenced in yard. Also, most hens are pretty quiet without a rooster, which is usually the one to make the most noise. Chickens are also providing this little girl and her family with a fresh, organic food source. Not to mention the amount of responsibility this child is learning by taking care of and nurturing living things. Even if these are considered a pet, they are an outdoor animal and it teaches the child what a farmer has to do on a daily basis, however on a smaller scale.

It's a good hobby and learning experience. It doesn't do any harm at least no more than a dog as far as pooping outside. If anything, most hen owners keep their hens curtailed in a hen house and hen run so wild animals can't get the hens and kill them. Waterford is nestled in a beautiful part of our Wisconsin countryside. It's not like she's raising goats, pigs, or horses??!

Chickens are not a nuisance. Anyone should be able to have them if they are contained.

(Mukwonago , 2017-05-16)

#60

I'm signing because I believe chickens should be allowed in residential area of Waterford! They do not take up a lot of space and are easily maintained!! way healthier! This 5 year old has the right idea!!

(Waterford, 2017-05-16)

I have lived in Waterford for over 30 years. I live a couple blocks away from someone who raised chickens in the Village. Let her have her chickens in her fenced in yard!

(Waterford, 2017-05-16)

It's important to instill value in kids these days

(Rochester, 2017-05-16)

#84

I would like a couple chickens also

(Waterford , 2017-05-16)

I'm signing this because Kids and Adults need an interest. Keeps them busy. They will read and research may things about chickens. They are easy to take care of they don't do any harm. They even eat ticks and other bugs. Why would you not want a child to have an interest. It sure beats obesity, boredom, and getting in trouble. Maybe even future drugs, and alcohol abuse. The town should be ashamed of there self.

(Waterford, 2017-05-16)

#92

I am signing because you should be allowed to raise chickens within the village. Other inner city communities allow their residents to raise hens (Delevan, Cudhy, etc) Why should Waterford, a farming community be any different.

Animals are apart of families and many people have lots of different types of parts for many reasons. I feel taking away a child's chickens could lead the child into a life of depression. Also it is amazing that she is getting the chance to learn how to be responsible for other animals. Not only is resposibily being learned and depression being fought by these kind chickens she is learning about the chickens. She is leaning how to feed the chickens so she can feed herself. She is learning that chickens need some very important things. I also believe that it's amazing that a little girl would want to spend money on chickens rather than a phone or a video game. She has learned yet another important lesson and that is that she does not need a phone or video games that don't make you money or feed you. That why waist money on that when chickens can get her outside! Running around, playing and enjoying the air outside! I feel that if 3 chickens can improve her life by 10 fold why should we take then away. This is the problem with our world we take the things that make us happy and crush them! Let the girl be happy! There are so many more benefits she has and they are all because of 3 chickens.

Freedom, land right

(Waterford, 2017-05-18)

#114

Because we live in a rural community and there is no reason to ban chickens

(Waterford, 2017-05-18)

#118

Down with the establishment, Rules suck. It's just chickens. Let the kids have their fun.

(Waterford, 2017-05-18)

#119

Waterford is a joke right now. The values are all mixed up from when I grew up there.

(Whitewater, 2017-05-18)

#137

Everyone should be allowed pet chickens. What harm are they doing to the Village of Waterford? It's not like they're wild boars!

(Cudahy, 2017-05-19)

#138

Chickens rock!!! Abby should be allowed to keep them. They aren't hurting anyone.

(Waukesha, 2017-05-19)

#141

I'm signing because property rights are important and this seems like an absurd thing to prohibit.

(Waterford, 2017-05-19)

#147

I am signing this petition because it shows a child responsibility how to care for something and providing food for the family.

(Union Grove, 2017-05-19)

#148

Why deny a little girl her pets?

(Waterford, 2017-05-19)

#152

This is a good way for kids to be able to work themselves and take care of things, she could be a great 4H member in doing so. It's not like the family has 40 plus chickens running loose. It's only 3, let her keep them, it makes her happy to show her work

(Racine, 2017-05-19)

#153

Let that little girl have those hens they aren't hurting anyone

(Milwaukee, 2017-05-19)

#154

Paying taxpayers should be in a position to not have small town government interfere with the lifestyle that they choose to exercise.

(Waterford , 2017-05-19)

#161

If they are fenced in, I don't see why this is even an issue and they are using the eggs they get from the chickens.

(Arena, 2017-05-19)

#165

We live in the village and wanted to get chickens for our children next spring. I was under the impression we were able to have them. My family will be devastated.

(Waterford, 2017-05-19)

#167

I think this is a great idea!!! As long as there is room for the chickens and still kept on the property of the owner (fenced yard) then there is no harm.

(Arena, 2017-05-19)

#168

its a great experience

(burlington, 2017-05-19)

#173

Let this baby keep her chickens! What harm could this cause!?

(Burlington, 2017-05-19)

#175

Every family deserves to have chickens, gardens and any other means to feed there family. Let not allow this municipal corporation to take our rites away!!

(Waukesha, 2017-05-19)

#177

Chickens

(Waterford , 2017-05-19)

#186

They're just chickens. And it's not an urban area. Let people have their chickens!

(Waukesha, 2017-05-20)

#187

I can not think of any reason on Gods green earth that you should not be able to have chickens. Live life and don't condemn those that do.

(Waterford, WI, 2017-05-20)

#197

I have chickens as well. They are a great addition to any family. Hens are quiet, most of our neighbors don't even know we have them. We live in a subdivision. They are great at keeping pests away, bugs. They do not smell or cause any concern. They teach my kids how to take care of a pet and be responsible. They LOVE finding the eggs every day. People want to be able to be self sufficient and eat healthy and organic. Backyard chickens are a great way to do that!!

(Muskego, 2017-05-20)

#198

I'm signing because I believe it is ridiculous that a small rural town would not allow anyone to own chickens. If people don't like it, they should have stayed in the metropolitan city they came from. I want our small town communities to remain rural with our quaint little shops.
