The captain tried to do the right thing with the information brought to him and now appears to be the victim of draconian punishment

Local Authorities should honour the
good will of Captain Andrzej Lasota
who acted in good faith and believed
in the LEGAL JUSTICE OF MEXICO.

#9046

#9049

To express my solidarity with captain Lasota, understanding of his misjudged situation, his rights, and full support.

The Master cannot practically have visual checks on all cargo coming on board. The shore cargo personnel should be held accountable.

Further authorities have found out because of Master's reporting in good faith. Punishment to Master for this will result in no Master ever voluntarily reporting anything, further emboldening the real crooks.

Rajesh Nambiar (Kochi, 2019-12-18)

#9065

I am signing this petition because innocent seafarers that are crucial in making global commerce effective and efficient, should not be criminalised.

Peter Andersen (Rødovre, 2019-12-18)

#9068

This is an issue affecting fair treatment and basic human rights. Seafarers should be protected from such abuse and if any country's government abuses seafarers' rights, they should know that trading partners will not stand idly by.

Criminalisation of inocent seamen that are doing their job in difficult and peculliar condition should stop, and be treated with utmost dilligence by all interested parties, including Owners, Charterers and insurers.

I am signing because I work in maritime industry and identify myself with seafarers. In this particular case the master was unjustly imprisoned despite following all the necessary procedures!

I am a colleague of Capt. Lasota but German citizen, I am working in the same company on the same sister type of vessels and in the same trading area. I was Master of UBC Savannah in the year 2002, I feel sorry for my colleague and like everybody else in here I am hoping for his soon relieve and return home.

The constant criminalisation of honest seafarers is unacceptable. Captain Lasota acted in a professional manner at all times.

Sean Minogue (Durban, 2019-12-23)

#9098

As a former merchant seaman I am appalled at the treatment of the innocent crew and master of the UBC Savannah.

#9102

Captain Andrzej Lasota is entitled to due process.

Richard Mackenzie (Saanich, BC, 2019-12-23)

#9104

This is a dangerous precedent to set and this Master is being jailed for, quite literally, being an excellent captain and doing his job. As a ships master myself I see this as a possible cartel action to prevent future Masters from doing the same.

Deatra Thompson (San Antonio, 2019-12-24)

#9107

Having read the article I sincerely believe that injustice has happened here for the Master who had himself reported what he found as soon as it came to his knowledge. By arresting him you will send out a message to all others that the next time you find something like this just quietly destroy it and do not bother following due process.

Feroze Kotwal (Mumbai, 2019-12-24)

#9111

Criminilisation of seafarers should end

Sathyan Veedu (Mumbai, 2019-12-24)

Shipping addresses more than 95% of the world's trade requirements without which the world and it's people would be in the Biggest possible mess. HOWEVER, regardless of the root cause we, the seafarers, are treated as Criminals the world over without ANY justification.

I am a ship's Captain and believe that the criminalisation of seafarers is a serious issue and this particular case is so obviously a miscarriage of justice.

David Wilcock (Aguascalientes, 2019-12-25)

#9125

This is an obvious case of seafarers doing their job and being held liable for something they had no control over. Please do not harm this man and his family for something he has nothing to do with.

Abhijit Manohar (Ahmedabad, 2019-12-27)

#9169

As a retired Master Mariner myself, I abhor the practice of criminalising seafarers for any and all assumed offences by various Governments without any understanding of the valuable role that the seafarer plays in his working life. Shameful of the Mexican authorities and it's judiciary for allowing this to take place. The IMO should have a say in this and have some kind of regulation setup with all countries for such instances.

This is wrong.
Seafarers are most unsecured and unsafe community. They have always been unidentified in society and ignored by Government.
Even though we live in most stress atmosphere and conditions still our job is not recognised on any standard.
Just like our job is not permanent without any guarantee,it is considered our life is also same.
No government in the world even bothered to bring any law or any justice to any arrested officer or crew.
Even though it is fact the the seafarer is even not aware what is hiding inside his vessel,
It is very strange that seafareres are just considered some one to blame.
Government don't bother about family, kids and their condition.
I request that trial can be done even after sending the seafarer to his home country.
His passport can be seized till the time he fully satisfy that he is not guilty.
But keeping him away from family in the prison is not a justice.

Manish Kumar (Patna, 2019-12-27)

#9180

I am a seafarer and I am against this persecution.

Shams Hashmi (Nagpur, 2019-12-27)

#9181

Captain Andrzej Lasota fulfilled his duty reporting possibility of drugs aboard of the vessel to Mexican authorities and instead of being prized for this action, was imprisoned and declined basic human rights as an access to the medications required for his well being, what caused further health deterioration. Captain Lasota should be released immediately and further action taken to discover why he was arrested in the first place. What has happened shows strong indication that the system is corrupt, and cover up action was taken to prevent quilty party/ties to be charged with smuggling drugs to Mexico.

Cezary Giluk (Edmonton, 2019-12-27)

#9184

I appeal against the illegal detention of a fellow seafarer.

I am seafarer too and helping my fellow mariner

Neeraj Tyagi (Dehradun, 2019-12-28)

#9189

I am a retired Master Mariner, and sailed on ships as Captain for over 35 years. This incidence is gross injustice to maritime fraternity. The captain in question honestly reported the matter and has been wrongly jailed. This must be reported to IMO, DG Shipping, Ministry of Shipping to help in quick release of the Captain.

Satyendra Singh (Jaipur, 2019-12-28)

#9190

Seafarers are right to inform the government of illegal activity onboard the ship and them being imprisionned or harassed for no reason or involvement.
