FREEDOM TO WALK NOW

While I tentatively agree with the concept of lockdown in general, I do not see that it can possibly have an overall positive outcome for a country as economically strained as our own. Nor do I understand why our president has been so eager to take such a radical step to fight this relatively minor threat to the people of South Africa when his party has neglected our best interests in most every other way for so long and squandered our resources to make us a junk status nation.
Rather the freedom to choose to self isolate or not, than to be caged in our own homes for fear of punishment from an increasingly ochlocratic government, while our businesses are liquidated and our livelihoods lost.

Me and my boys need exercise and running keeps me sane and fit

It will ease the frustrations of many people confined to their homes and possibly becoming aggressive due to the lack of released endorphins

We need exercise!!

I agree we can continue to be responsible and compliant law-abiding citizens and still prevent spread of covid-19 virus. Our mental and physical well-being is also vitally important- we are struggling with economic and social impact of the virus already, we are doing the best we can and will keep social distancing etc ... but we need times to exercise for our mental and physical well being.

It was clear that Minister Cele doesn't know what he is doing, he just decided to over rule the Minister of Health.

I believe complete house restrictions are totally detrimental for every citizen of the Republic! It is causing resentment, frustration and anger, towards the authorities and at home!

You need to walk
You need to walk your dog .

Cathy Bruce (Howick, 2020-04-06)

For mental and health reasons and the same reasoning for walking dogs.

It is ridiculous that we can go to the shops where there’s a lot of people, yet running by yourself is not allowed.

Luristé Brits (Randburg , 2020-04-06)

I am signing because I need an outlet away from my home to exercise and for my mental well being.

I live in a flat and it's going to drive me crazy sitting in this one room day and night after day and night. My work has dried up as well, which makes my life even more stressful and I don't even know if I will end up living in the bush if I can't pay rent. Please let us at least walk quietly alone during this time to help keep some semblance of sanity and emotional wellbeing.

I feel strongly that the lockdown is a terrible idea and it will impoverish South Africa for generations.

Chris Taylor (Cape Town , 2020-04-06)

#246

I fully support and abide by the lockdown for large groups of people, and visiting shops, however exercise is essential for good physical and mental health and can be restricted so that people do not need to congregate. It is also vital to exercise our dogs off our properties, which again can be achieved with no contact with other people. These existing rules should be relooked at and amended to avoid people becoming disillusioned and willing to break the law to keep their sanity and health and keep their animals calm and relaxed during this time. Rather restrict gatherings to smaller numbers which will help reduce transmission, but allow individuals and their dogs to get the exercise they need alone without compromising anyone else.

Cathie Garner (Knysna, 2020-04-06)

Daniel Roode (Vanderbijlpark , 2020-04-06)

#276

As long as people are only allowed to walk alone or with family members of the same household and not gather or stand around with other people closer than 2-3m, we should be allowed to move around our neighborhoods. This does not defy the purpose of the lock-down which is to keep the virus from spreading. But it helps maintain physical and mental health of the population!

Susanne Jasper (Knysna, 2020-04-06)

#277

I think the ability not to exercise in wide open spaces keeping social distancing is barbaric and defeats the purpose

Simon Koch (Hermanus, 2020-04-06)

Marion Claassen (Port Elizabeth , 2020-04-06)

#287

I agree with being allowed to walk around our neighborhood, keeping a safe distance from others. My dog also needs exercise, as does my family for various health reasons.

Lindsey Wels (Knysna, 2020-04-06)

#293

The lockdown is a violation of human rights and the virus fatality rate does not warrant this level of reaction by government. There is no reason to limit people to their homes at all times, it is unhealthy and will lead to more illness than this virus ever has. Sunlight and exercise is critical to a strong immune system and a strong immune system is vital in preventing infection. The lockdown rationale is flawed and has no basis in science...

Kent Cooper (Montagu, 2020-04-06)

Ally Vogel (Knysna, 2020-04-07)
