I'm signing because to me the name Rebel is not offensive. The Confederate flag is offensive however.

I am an alumni from here. And no one, not myself or any “colored” person had any offense to this during my 4 years there. Ask anyone that has went to school there. Maryville is known as the rebels. Period. This is who we are. Rebels. Rebels for life.

It's history, and erasing history is wrong.

I am signing this because I want Maryville to keep its nickname “Rebels” . I view it as a legacy of MHS , Not a mascot of prejudice connotations .

The Maryville High School Rebels has so much history. It would be a travesty to change the name. Please don’t do that!!

The rebel name has nothing to do with the color of our skin.

Just because a lot of people are currently acting ignorant doesn't mean everyone has to follow suit.

My opinion is that the Rebel is not, and has not ever been racist... men and women that have graduated from Maryville has pride in this mascot, no one has been that upset with this emblem until the Democratic Party told them that it is bad and racist

The traditions and history of an institutions should not be just thrown to the wind at the harping of some wet behind the ears confused people who are bot in possession of all the facts.

I’m a second generation Red Rebel. I’m proud of our mascot and have never considered it to be racist in any way. Nothing will be gained whatsoever by removing the name Rebels!

I’m tired of people trying to make political statements about everything on earth ! It’s ridiculous and unnecessary.

I have always been proud to be a MHS Rebel. I have always seen it as we stand together against unjustness and unfairness. If we keep erasing our history, what do we teach our children? Are we going to ban history classes too?
Once a Rebel always a Rebel!!
Proud that my Mother, myself and both of boys are MHS REBELS!!

The Maryville Rebel name has been a tradition in our community for decades. I do not feel we should be forced to change our traditions for one bad police officer. Please use some common sense people.

I was a student at maryville I feel there is no need to change it because a person is thinking they just want change they need to leave the maryville rebel alone there is no meaning to this only because a person dont like something they want to change this name which means nothing to them.

It is absurd and dangerous to contemplate changing a team name that is known to have no direct connection to the Confederacy in order to placate those who are ignorant of the facts, or those who rush to judgement based on false assumption. Chris Poplin MHS 1993

I have had 2 children go through this school and after 1000s of events I have attended there...I have NEVER EVER seen any....I mean ANY hint of anything close to being racial because of the name REBEL!!.Furthermore...if the name offends you for some reason....you are free to MOVE TO ANOTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT !!!...Thank you...Have a very Blessed day.
