I care about humans... not heartless business-minded initiatives that push paperwork and empty rhetoric.

I cannot condone the emphasis on standardized testing in a time when our students are facing trauma from multiple directions and are adjusting to a new learning format. Nor do I believe the investment required by teachers to learn, coordinate and proctor the NWEA is productive at a time when teachers themselves are adjusting to a new medium.

Whatever the merits of collecting unsupervised, remotely-proctored data do not outweigh in my mind the need to offer students a predictable and engaging remote curriculum. The NWEA has already proven to alienate, frustrate and discourage a population of at-risk learners in my classroom. If the administration holds that risk of alienation was worth the data during the school year, I would only ask them to consider that the risk is higher still during this unprecedented national emergency. I would argue that, now more than ever, a human touch is paramount to keeping our students engaged, and the NWEA is anything but.

To base data off of testing being done at home, unproctored with unreliable access to internet only continues to perpetuate the opportunity gap. This is not an adequate or fair assessment of our students and it does a disservice to them and to us as teachers.

I support Mr. O'Connor.

I am signing because as a student who already has to deal with home distractions during this online school year I would highly prefer not having these tests due to the emotional and mental issues that they bring. Bringing regular classes home is already is already stressful enough, not being able to get a break from it, not being able to have human interactions, and not being able to focus properly in the home environment. For some like myself taking test brings anxiety and stress to a bigger level. Now having to take such big tests at home in a place where its hard to focus and during a time that is already very stressful can mess with a persons mental stability. These tests are unnecessary and mentally harmful during these already anxious times.

I'm signing this because we are doing social distance learning at home which is more stressful with all the assignments all the teachers are giving us.

I’m signing this because I feel like our district isn’t understanding the fact that times are hard for us and we should have to be forced to have standardized testing!

Victoria Lueras (Vallejo, 2020-09-18)

This district is so selfish on not considering the difficult circumstances that are being held right now for teachers and students , but are worried about tests????? That's just showing us that they don't care about the student's well being and health . Cancel these test , it does not benefit us at this inappropriate time .

Samantha villa (vallejo, 2020-09-18)

we can easily cheat on the tests

Nestor Naranjo (Vallejo, 2020-09-18)

I believe they are unjust to me as a student since the teaching environment isn’t the same and I personally struggle with this style of teaching. Also it seems most teachers don’t want to do it as well and it looks like a waste of time

I’m signing this because I feel like if we we’re to do the testing now a bunch of people would fail

Jaden Williams (Vallejo, 2020-09-18)

I’m signing this because these test shouldnt be a priority right now, students already have tons of work and have to stare at a screen everyday. Instead of prioritizing test, PRIORITIZE THE WELL BEING OF THE STUDENTS! I said what i said :)

Im signing because they would be destracked at home

Bad data is worse than no data...

I won't "shut up and dribble"...

Testing is inequitable given different socio-economic situations and testing is insecure because we cannot control the testing environment...

Henry Sun (Vallejo City USD, 2020-09-21)

The data is not viable. The testing environment is not controlled in the slightest, which will result in unusable information. I will not use this data because I cannot trust it.

Because we need our voice to be heard.

We should not be taking this test one month into distance learning

Paul Sedano (Vallejo, 2020-09-22)

#85

I am signing because as a teacher I feel like my voice is not being heard by administration and the district. Administration is refusing to heard our voice and what we are say and take teachers as education experts. They feel that because we work here we must not understand what is needed to understand where our students are academically. Not once have they contacted us to ask us what would be the best approach or what the needs of our students are.

I sign this petition with the understanding of what my students need and where my students learning needs are without them taking the NWEA standardize testing.

Chrystal Johnson (American Canyon, 2020-09-22)

Standardized Tests aren’t even an accurate or fair representation of our true knowledge. Also taking these tests in class are hard enough, but we are know supposed to take them during distance learning by ourselves.

i feel like people have way more stuff to worry about during this pandemic rather than school and testing at that. For one, teachers are already inconsiderate with assignments, tons of assignments due at the same time for however many classes individuals are taking is wrong. People are staying up all night, and some even pulling all-nighters to finish assignments meanwhile there is a deadly pandemic going around, a movement that is effecting many lives, some people don’t have money because of this pandemic so they need to worry about food, and bills. I feel like as a community, and a society in general we should be working to overcome this pandemic, rather sitting it aside like nothing is going on and testing.

I’m signing this because we haven’t been in school for months and now the district is throwing testing at us on top of all the work we have from school on a daily basis. It’s honestly too much the stress of having to make sure I maintain grades while worrying about a test that’s testing what I should’ve learned from last year when half our school year was cut off it’s unfair and unjustified. They expect us to know this stuff when the only source we had for learning was shut down for MONTHS.

I feel like a lot of kids are not thinking straight and also there is a lot of things going on in a lot of kids right now not having really talk and conversation with other people and having a lack of content with friends is not good for us.

I’m signing because I know that our mental health is more important right now

Horace Smith (Vallejo, 2020-09-23)

I’m signing because I was in the VCUSD when I lived in Vallejo which was still 2020, and it’s only getting worse and worse as years go by. They don’t care about their students well-being, nor care what they think or feel. This is the students state of mind and they’re state of mind right now with all the devastation going on is not well. Where’s all the care and support for your young students ? The only thing this district likes is money for themselves but never care about the students education nor their inner self feelings.

Ashley Merino (Woodland , 2020-09-23)

As a student, the NWEA is being conducted at the most inconvenient time, especially amidst a pandemic. A lot of people, such as myself, aren’t in ideal environments or the right state of mind to take this test. This all for the purpose of collecting data, so is it really necessary? I recommend conducting this test at a more appropriate and convenient to accommodate everyone. Compared to when I was in physically school, along with other students, we were completely fine because we weren’t faced with inconveniences despite how we are now.

Chels Javines (Vallejo, 2020-09-23)

#111

They’re not even getting good data from the test. The scores aren’t accurate since students will most likely cheat and also not take as seriously as they would in school

Lauryn Bungay (Vallejo, 2020-09-23)

#115

im signing because i feel that at this time it isn’t right to be testing students especially because i feel like i’m not ready and i wouldn’t be fully focused especially when it’s online schooling.
