Metelkova is one of the few important spaces operating as a public common, a space for those made most vulnerable by the system - and as such, it is indeed clear why it is a threat to the governmental right-wing powers. Time to stand up to such fascist tactics!

I'm signing because I've been several times at Metelkova and always had a great time, nice people, cultural quality very good, really good music and I love this place. Moreover, it's a piece of history of Ljubljana. It's a crime and a great loss for everybody if it closes!

I'm singing for three reasons. Many of these organisations have contributed over many years to the high international reputation Slovenia has in the cultural field. Secondly this decision will seriously weaken Ljubljana's bid for European Capital of Culture. Thirdly politicians should not directly make cultural decisions; a backwards step to the regimes before 1989/1992

In November last year, I visited Ljubljana for the first time as a presenter during a conference there, and I instantly fell in love with Metelkova street. It satisfied many needs, from education to hub for meeting new people and giving support to those impoverished and marginalized in our society as well as bringing awareness and education to all the other social groups. Metelkova was one of the places I couldn't wait to talk about to people at home as we have only semblances of something remotely attempting to do the same thing. I believe that every city should be proud of having such a place, and the thought of it changing its primary purpose as a hub for all kinds of creative people saddens me.

The companies/ NGOs and projects that have had Metelkova as their base are a key part of the culture sector of Slovenia, and their independence is crucial to how they operate. These NGOs have been a significant part of the outreach from Slovenia to the world through joint projects, collaborations, cooperation and creation.

I have been to Slovenia a number of times since 1986 when I first visited Radio Student, station with a deservedly European-wide reputation. The station has been an important example of independent cultural production and freedom of speech. And it was in Ljubljana in September 1994 that the Founding Assembly of AMARC-Europe adopted The Community Radio Charter for Europe. The threatened action of the Slovenian Ministry of Culture would be a disgrace to the country's cultural history and reputation.

Stripburger has been a big support to me as an artist, and opened my eyes to Slovenian comics. They published my first comics page in their magazine, and it was an incredible thrill to be published alongside the amazing talent within. They are a big and important part of the cultural landscape of comics.

Culture always must go before profit.
Culture always supports healthy communities.
Culture always push a country further than any frontier, because culture always means undertanding.

Organizations like this reconcile past, present and future, and a developed goverment must suport them towards a

A developend country as Slovenia must understand this kind of organizations are an open door to other foreigners like me.
This kind of organizations are first step towoards slovenian identity, culture or even visit the country.

A extrange scenario as this current pandemic, must taught us to avoid frontiers and understand each others.
We are in XXI, so any ghost from the past should not haunt us, none black plage or totalitarian movements will clarify the future. Here and now, free culture is the key for a free world, with solidarity and understanding.

There are things in this world that should have an undisputed right to existence, freedom and plurality. Arts and nature are good such things. Their wellbeing is beneficial to everybody and everything in our societies and communities. NGO's cultivate them. Let them do that. Even more, finance them.
