NO! TATTOO COURSES AT FMCC!

Tattooing is not a college course. This is a trade learned only by apprenticeship

Amanda Dingman (Broadalbin, 2021-08-06)

#3

I think it’s irresponsible for FMCC to offer a tattoo training course. This is NOT something that can be taught in a classroom, and within such a short time frame. I believe it will only be a waste of time and money for the students. If this class is offered, it will quickly lead to infected tattoos, spread of disease, permanent damage and scarring of the skin, and an abundance of low quality tattoo work.

#7

I do not support the idea of this training

Russ Gomula (Broadalbin , 2021-08-06)

#8

I’m a tattooer of 15 years, who did a three year apprenticeship (18 years total), one on one with a mentor to become disciplined enough to responsibly apply a tattoo. This is the kind of thing that’s killing our craft and our livelihood.

Cody Van Nostrand (Gloversville, 2021-08-06)

#9

I would NEVER get tattooed from some random person that got their “tat degree” from FMCC.
And the last thing we need is a bunch Karen’s and Kyle’s running around with “tat guns” ruining people’s lives.

Charlene VanNostrand (Gloversville, 2021-08-06)

#10

As a devoted tattooer’s apprentice the sacrifices I’ve made, personal, family life, workplace and otherwise are cheapened by these endeavors. I feel strongly about preserving traditions in tattooing and proper business etiquette. The privilege to tattoo is earned not bought.

Jadrian Cyr (Fonda, 2021-08-06)

#12

This isn’t good for the tattoo community and it’s false advertisement for what students would get afterward.

Linnea Jansson (Ewing, 2021-08-06)

#18

Zero confidence that anyone involved with teaching this course will be even remotely qualified for the job.

Travis Aanensen (Albany, 2021-08-06)

#20

It takes a way from what's most important in life indeed, education, intellect, promote violence etc

Elena Iove (Surrey, 2021-08-06)

#22

It's dangerous!

Tierney VanDeusen (Gloversville , 2021-08-06)

#24

This is ridiculous… I can go on all day how wrong this is..

Mike Maney (SARATOGA SPRINGS, 2021-08-06)

#25

I’m signing because this is a potentially dangerous and irresponsible way to allow unqualified people into a field where very serious adverse health risks are always a possibility.

Zach Herron (Fort plain, 2021-08-06)

#26

This could cause so much harm

Kayla Faircloth (Morrisville, 2021-08-06)

#33

Learning how to tattoo at a school is not how it’s done. You learn how to tattoo by doing an apprenticeship under the watchful eye of an experienced tattooer. Paying for the title of “tattooer” is also wrong and predatory. The fact that a higher learning is even offering this as part of a curriculum is total nonsense.

Dave Borjes (Staten Island, 2021-08-06)

#36

This should NOT be a class at Fmcc.

Katlyn Christenson (Johnstown, 2021-08-06)

#37

As professional tattooer in the industry this course is highly offensive and will not satisfy the requirement a to actually be a tattooer. No shop will hire people from a program like this, basically taking peoples money to profit off an I industry you know nothing about.

Shenan Tucker (Saratoga , 2021-08-06)

#39

I am a professional tattoo artist and do not believe that just anyone with money should be able to get a tattoo education. It should be passed down from a montor that finds you worthy of receiving that knowledge. The industry is already over saturated with talentless fools. Dont make it worse

Adam Barnes (Sugar Hill, 2021-08-06)

#41

I am a profession tattoo artist, and I believe this course will be doing a disservice to the tattoo industry as a whole.

Jasmine Beaudette (Colchester, 2021-08-06)

#44

I believe in the art of tattooing and the customary way of going about learning the art, and don’t want any tattoo artists work to be devalued or degraded because of programs such as this

Caleb Sgambato (Spring Hill, 2021-08-06)

#50

For reasons outlined in this petition. There is already an established organization for tattoo certification that requires more discipline.

Michael Giustiniani (Caroga Lake, 2021-08-06)

#52

This a bad idea tou are going to get people hurt. Stop you are only doing this to get quick money and are ganna ruin people’s body’s

Aaron Miller (Mechanicville, 2021-08-06)

#61

I believe that the CRAFT of tattooing cannot be taught without a committed 3 year apprenticeship. It teaches the person not only how to operate the tools, but to have ethics and standards and understand their place in the continuum of the art’s history.

Keet D’Arms (Tucker, 2021-08-06)

#66

Tattooing can only be taught through a one on one apprenticeship. There are also to many tattooers out there and it is becoming increasingly difficult for some tattooers to make a living.

Phil Colvin (Peachtree City, 2021-08-07)

#68

Tattooing is a sacred craft. It can’t be taught in a classroom.

Ryan Whitmore (Shreveport , 2021-08-07)

#69

This is bullshit

Zachary Reed (Bossier, 2021-08-07)

#71

This is not how you earn it in the tattoo world.

Zach Bowie (Bossier city , 2021-08-07)

#72

Tattoo certificate programs are not an acceptable form of learning the craft. Tattooing is a trade that takes years of shop based apprenticeship learning, there is information that cannot possibly be garnered from a community college environment.
There is a tremendous amount of precedent on record, as Tattoo schools have been stopped and shut down all over the world.

Devin Wood (Saint Albans, 2021-08-07)

#77

I believe it is dangerous and the only people who would teach a course like this are failed tattooers.

Michael Ransom Backus (Ballston spa, 2021-08-07)

#82

As a tattoo studio owner with 13 years of experience I have seen first hand what these “schools” do. They misleading people into thinking is a proper education, take all of their money, train them inadequately, leave them jobless, and then they tattoo from home spreading disease and bad, permanent tattoos. It’s unsafe, immoral and insulting to an industry that we hold sacred.

Brittany Mccoy (Bossier city, 2021-08-07)

#85

The artistry and application that’s involved in tattoo is further more than one can be taught in a semester or two at Fulton Montgomery community college. Please re-evaluate the skills and time needed to apply such skills.

Troy Wiz (Amsterdam , 2021-08-07)

#88

Tattooing should only be taught through apprenticeship.

Kyle MacHattie (Scotia, 2021-08-07)

#92

Tattooing is a craft and art form that requires a lengthy apprenticeship to properly hone. Home tattooing is a massive health risk, and this program will do nothing but increase its prevalence.

Jarid Valentin (Amsterdam , 2021-08-07)

#93

Not the proper action in approaching the tattoo trade.

Joshua Mckay (Corinth , 2021-08-07)

#94

This is not a safe and effective way to learn tattooing.

Jordan Matchin (Matthews, 2021-08-07)

#95

This is a terrible idea.

Emma Tharp (Gloversville , 2021-08-07)

#99

I believe in the lessons and integrity of tattooing apprenticeships, and their selection process, cannot be replicated in a classroom setting. Would you learn more learning from Leonardo Da Vinci or someone who merely studied his work?

Mike McBride (Salt Lake City, 2021-08-07)

#103

I respect the art of tattooing.

Andrew Jung (Caroga Lake, 2021-08-07)

#111

Tattoo’s should only be learned and done professionally. You don’t attend school to become a tattoo artist. I’ve never heard of getting a degree in tattooing. You only earn a license professionally. This is absurd.

Brendan McGillin (Hagaman, 2021-08-07)

#112

This is absolutely ridiculous! Leave this to the PROFESSIONALS!

Rachael Rudock (Huntsville, 2021-08-07)

#115

I am a healthcare worker and heavily tattooed. Allowing this course could put many individuals in danger of skin infections and reactions to inks as these students will not attain the knowledge correctly. You’re creating a huge liability.

Logan Restina (Clifton Park, 2021-08-07)

#121

I love tattooing with all of my heart and don’t wanna see people getting scammed.

Isaac McDonald (Denver , 2021-08-07)

#123

I think this is a bad idea as it breaks with the tattoo tradition of apprenticeship and earning your dues.

Harry Van nostrand (Johnstown, new york, 2021-08-07)

#126

If people want to learn how to tattoo, go to an established professional shop and get an apprenticeship. Tattoo schools are not the way to go and consistently have proven that.

Alexan Diffee (Ballston spa, 2021-08-08)

#132

Tattoo schools are just a money grab and not art training

Charlie Reilly (Cambridge, 2021-08-08)

#144

This is bogus.... not acceptable. How dare you make a mockery of how hard we have been trained and the knowledge that we have. Do it the right way or dont do it.

Gina M Carbone (Albany, 2021-08-08)

#145

I believe that tattooing should not be taught in a college curriculum.

James Kroeger (Hammond, 2021-08-08)

#147

I myself am a tattooer and these tattoo schools and courses are a disgrace. Formal apprenticeship is the only way to learn the craft. The clowns need to stop.

Meko Peregrim (Schenectady , 2021-08-08)

#149

Tattooing is an art. It’s not something that can be taught in 2 very short semester. It takes years of practice. This is a disaster waiting to happen

Jessica VanNostrand (Gloversville , 2021-08-08)

#155

This is bullshit.

Kenneth Briggs (Gloversville, 2021-08-08)

#156

This is an irresponsible approach, to learning how to tattoo. It is profit driven, instead of being merit based. Allowing unqualified individuals to become tattooers. Artificially creating more “supply” than “demand”, meaning it will decrease the average income of a tattooer. Also it’s an egregious, encroachment on a one of the oldest and longest surviving trades and culture, on earth. That has historically been, mentor teaching apprentice. One person teaching one person, everyday, for years. Insuring, some level, of accountability on both, teacher and student. Also, being such an universally unacceptable way to gain an “education” in tattooing, it makes it almost impossible to get a job, at any reputable establishment. Meaning this is a “false promise”. It makes people think they will find a job, after, completing the course. When, in fact, there isn’t just, a lack of a guarantee, but could even be detrimental to their ability to find a job.

Mike Lee (Murrells Inlet, 2021-08-08)

#161

I completely agree. Its also hard enough trying to properly teach a single apprentice let alone a class of 10+. Improper education and trading will saturate and kill the market.

Matthew Charron (Glens Falls, 2021-08-08)

#166

Tattooing is an art you can’t teach someone to be good at it. It’s a natural talent and isn’t for everyone!

Sarah Brown (FAIR HAVEN, 2021-08-08)

#171

I agree with everything said

Will Durrant (Stuart , 2021-08-08)

#172

I'm signing because this industry doesn't need schools trying to push out bad artist. There is a system that works leave it alone.

Jesse Schrock (Brandon, 2021-08-08)

#173

This is important to me. Tattoo artist is a sacred role in society since before written history. Not every Jack and Jill needs to learn, leave it to us who are DEDICATED. We live, breathe, sleep, and will ultimately die as tattooers and if you don’t feel this way you don’t belong in OUR industry

Victoria Yaciuk (Syracuse NY, 2021-08-08)

#181

I'm signing because you're taking away from independent company's who have years of passion and experience who should be teaching these people in a real life setting. Being a tattoo artist isn't something you learn in a classroom.

Johnny Gonzales (Johnstown, 2021-08-08)

#183

I’ve worked in the tattoo industry for 18 years. This is ridiculous.

Venus Sheets (Shreveport , 2021-08-08)

#185

Tattooing shouldn’t be something tought in a few months, every single person I meet coming out from one of this so called school always were unprepared and didn’t have the skill to actually work at a shop

Sinder Borsic (Queens village, 2021-08-08)

#186

This course is a travesty to tattooing. Do not let this happen.

Jeff Kozan (Delray Beach, 2021-08-08)

#187

Since being a victim of a tattoo school I can’t say there’s no chance in hell you can learn tattooing in a semester or two, it took me longer to unlearn all the stuff I learned wrong at the tattoo “school”

Simon Pareja (Queens village, 2021-08-08)

#191

I support the art and agree, this is something that doesn't belong within the curriculum, but more importantly offensive to the history of the art.

Dave Richard (Amsterdam, 2021-08-08)

#195

Tattoo artistry is a discipline

Nicole Kerr (Oneonta, 2021-08-08)

#197

Tattoo schools are a terrible terrible idea and do not teach proper technique at all. No reputable tattoo artist would recommend attending a tattoo school or support such an idea. Proper tattooing isn’t something that can be taught in a school. It requires a REAL solid apprenticeship at a reputable tattoo shop.
