This whole thing is absurd. There's no reason to close down the animal haven. There's no reason why passersby should have any say in what happens to these animals as they are just that- passersby. They have no attachment, connection, affiliation with these animals. They do not know what goes on there or how they are cared for. They made judgements and assumptions and took action without any facts present. They've made false accusations and statements. They've cropped and altered photos to fit their agenda. It's disgusting and appalling. I know the animals are well cared for as best they can be. My children and I love going to visit and see them as they grow & age. We understand that animals we've visited over the years age and get arthritis which makes them limp and walk slowly; we don't assume they're maltreated or have broken limbs. We understand they're animals that live outside and with "outside" comes dirt; again, they're not mistreated. We understand that animals eat, drink & make a mess of their water; we don't assume they're unfed and uncared for, especially since we ALWAYS see employees feeding, cleaning up after, giving fresh water to these animals. There's no reason that action should be taken to remove these animals from THEIR HOMES where they are cared for due to "feelings", falsehoods, and assumptions. It's beyond ridiculous. I'm at a loss for words. If someone walked by my home and decided I'm not a good pet owner because my yard is small, is occasionally muddy, they don't see food & water outside and tried to have my pets seized,I would be fighting tooth and nail. This is exactly the same scenario. A person passing by has no reason or right to make assumptions and take action while the owners or caregivers have no say in any of it, not even to state facts.

My autistic son loves the animals who are very well taken care of by the hard working loving staff.

Kimberly Neal (East Windsor, 2021-10-12)

I've visited the park as a child and have continued to visit as an adult. I take my nephews & nieces there several times each year. I recommend it to so many friends & family members who have enjoyed visits to the park themselves. I can't imagine life without Johnson Park as an option for a beautiful weekend outside.

KATILINA SCARANO (Toms River, 2021-10-12)

I’ve been going there 20 + years and the people there who care for the animals are wonderful. They even gave my daughter a beautiful lil rabbit who she adored for many years.

Richard Cianci (Long Valley, 2021-10-12)

#49

I’m signing because my family has enjoyed the park and the animals for years.

Judith Finkel (East Brunswick , 2021-10-12)

These animals depend on the wonderful care that they receive from the professionals at this facility. The animals have been abandoned and or neglected until they came to the Johnson Park. They are SAFE NOW with the ones taking care of them. Do not shut down this Anim Haven!!!

Kendra Perry (Veazie , 2021-10-12)

#58

This is not a zoo and these animals are EXTREMELY well cared for!!! Whoever this woman is who started the crap about the animals being mistreated, is crazy!!! She needs to get a life!!

Jane DeFranza (Washington , 2021-10-13)

#59

I'm signing this because some people just don't get it. Animals are part of the circle of life!

SUSAN CHASE (WINSTON SALEM, 2021-10-13)

The animal haven has been a source of joy for many people, especially families and young children. It has been for many, many years. I personally have never seen any signs of abuse or neglect towards the animals. To close the haven because of the actions of a few people is unjust and undemocratic. If changes are felt warranted, they need to be discussed fairly and openly and a solution to keep the haven open for the enjoyment of the public, as well as the safety and well being of the animals, I’m sure would be implemented if found necessary. The call to just close the haven is unjust and hurtful to the public who derive so much pleasure from a healthy family day in the park enjoying nature. Unfortunately there aren’t many places left that families can go anymore that are affordable, fun and educational. To close the haven is just wrong on so many levels.

Kim Nota (Hyde Park, 2021-10-14)

These animals are so loved by the park rangers and generations of families in the area. Please do not take these animals from their homes!

I do not want the animals removed, I’ve been visiting them since I was a kid. Brought both my kids here and my grandkids. The animals are cared for and treated well, leave them where they are so more generations can enjoy them.

Cindy Ford (Piscataway , 2021-10-17)

#105

That park is the only home the animals know. Taking them out of their home will only stress them out.

Diane Fisher (Dayton , 2021-10-17)

#107

Animals deserve a safe haven!

Laurie Campbell (Ocoee, 2021-10-17)

I agree that there is a better solution that that chosen by the Commision.

Daniel Epstein (Edison, 2021-10-18)

#126

Johnson Park is a community park!!!! The animals are treated well!!

Sharon Rosen (Fords, 2021-10-18)

#128

Those animals have been there for decades and decades of kids have enjoyed them. PETA needs to go!

Janis McKiernan (edison, 2021-10-18)

#132

The animals need to be taken care of; visiting them relaxes people and educates children.

Phyllis Walsh (Edison, 2021-10-18)

#133

I’d rather see an alternative plan for animal safety as opposed to removing them all together. Let there be options before this drastic change.

Yvonne Ambrosio (Edison, 2021-10-18)

#134

The animals are have great care takers!

Keith Serio (Bayville , 2021-10-18)

#147

My kids love the animals. It’s the highlight of the park. They will be really disappointed if they are removed.

Pearl Perlstein (Edison , 2021-10-19)

#149

Many generations of families have visited Johnson park to see the animals and enjoy nature. The animals there would have otherwise been euthanized. Imagine growing up in new brunswick with limited access to the natural world, let alone a zoo! Johnson park is within walking distance and free! Appreciation for nature and wildlife comes from interaction with a deer, goat, duck, bear, pig, rabbit, horse etc. Closing this local gem would be a huge loss for everyone

Scott Wardenski (East Brunswick, 2021-10-19)

#150

This is outrageous that liberal environmentalist’s would close a historic zoo which thousands and thousands of people enjoy because of a flood which did not even hurt the animals. The animals are happy, the residents are happy, and the visitors are happy at a local zoo. It gives people something to do and gives the animals lots of love. The zoo remaining open is a win win for everyone but the few people who probably don’t even live near it who are using politics to try to confirm global warming by closing this zoo. Animals have feelings too.

Greg Hetman (Ogdensburg NJ, 2021-10-19)

#153

They new a storm all they had to do is be prepared tobmove animals to higher ground at Rutgers University I'm sure it would been any problem

Ivan Johnson (Somerset, 2021-10-19)

#157

The tax we paid should be better utilized for maintaining this lovely zoo and provide animals a better living place instead of shutting it down. I’m questioning the use of our tax and where it went!

April Li (Edison, 2021-10-19)

#162

This is not the answer to are problems

Richard Ambrosio (Edison, 2021-10-19)

#169

Johnson Park provides an incredible learning opportunity for children to learn about animals and animal welfare. The park also provides a safe home for animals that otherwise may be euthanized. The flooding that endangered them was state wide and unusual. Make an emergency plan, don't just shut it down.

Heidi Lake (East Brunswick, 2021-10-19)

#170

Families enjoy going to the park to see the animals.

Kelly Flannery (South Amboy, 2021-10-19)

#171

The animals are a big draw for so many kids. Alot of parents bring their kids just to see the animals. What a shame it would be to get rid of the zoo.

Ed Quinn (Iselin, 2021-10-19)

#175

It’s a great park and the animals are well taken care of this can also happen where they bring them animals

Brian Mcquade (South Amboy, 2021-10-19)

#177

There’s only so much publicly that we can do at a safe distance to enjoy ourselves. Why remove something that brings happiness to everyone and leaves a safe place for these beautiful animals to be admired and taken care of. I feel like we’ve lost enough these last 2 years. Let’s leave some happiness and normalcy, please.

Isabelle Walker (Milltown, 2021-10-19)

#184

I know for a fact that these animals are taken care of. A few people took what was posted on the internet and ran with it, people who probably have never even been to this safe haven ! This is absurd and so sad for the care takers that pour their hearts and souls into this.

Elizabeth Fiorenza (Milltown, 2021-10-19)

#187

The animals at Johnson park make Johnson park what it is. Without the animals it is just another park. For years families bring their children to see this free exhibit when these animals are loved and cared for. Please don’t do this leave the animals where they are they belong here.

Mason Eldridge (Hightstown, 2021-10-19)

#188

The park is an integral part of our community. My kids and I love being able to visit this amazing sanctuary where the animals are taken care of by great people who are professional and courteous and love the animals.

Yifat Schnur (Edison, 2021-10-19)

#191

I’m signing because I would love to keep this beautiful place open.

Sarah Vasquez (Cedar grove , 2021-10-19)

#193

It is ridiculous to shut the park down because of a rare, isolated incident that no animals were hurt from. These radical activists dont even visit the park anyways. Any storm capable of flooding this area will be known about well enough in advance for action to be taken. Many thousands of people enjoy this local haven on a weekly basic. That is the kind of community I want for my family.

Frank King (HILLSBOROUGH, 2021-10-19)

#194

I believe in the work that is done there, not like those who sign a petition and have never visited the park or even live in the state.

Ed Walker (Milltown, 2021-10-19)

#195

I'm signing because I feel this is a well taken care of preserve. The financial actions that are being taken to close the park could be used to do upgrades or supplies.

Angela Walker (Milltown, 2021-10-19)

#197

We love visiting the animals with our 2 year old daughter. My parents took me when I was little. We have great memories there.

Kathleen Heyman (Cliffwood, 2021-10-19)

#198

It’s a wonderful local zoo. Surely there are ways to keep the zoo open and protect the animals during hurricanes. It’s not a binary choice!

Hayden Hsiung (Highland park, 2021-10-19)

#200

I’m signing this because myself and my children all grew up feeding and visiting theses animals. It is close to home and gives us the learning of farm animals. Terilou zoo is gone and now the closest one is in the oranges. Keep children’s learning abilities local
