Save GCC from CRT

I want my school to stand up for itself

David Hollenbaugh (Mercer , 2021-11-11)

#207

I am not in agreement with CRT and I am of the opinion that chapel services should be promoting the biblical teaching only.

Kelly Lowry (Emlenton, 2021-11-11)

#208

My daughter is a freshman at Grove City College. We specifically chose GCC because it is a self described “Christ-centered” institution. CRT is blatantly anti-Christian and therefore should not be tolerated in the halls, classrooms and especially the Chapel of this beloved campus.

Mary Perry (Brackney , 2021-11-11)

#209

I believe CRT will ruin GCC

Thomas Reay (Portersville, 2021-11-11)

#210

CRT is unbiblical and just wrong.

Deborah Reay (Portersville, 2021-11-11)

#211

We love Grove City College for its unwavering stand on truth and the Gospel. Please let’s not have this invasion of the evil of CRT infect the fundamental truth that all humans are loved and valuable because of our Creator.

Linda Densmore (Denver, 2021-11-11)

Multiple students have brought the same concerns listed in this petition to my husband and me. These students are deeply disturbed by the clear CRT focus in chapel and in these other ways at GCC. They are pleading often in our weekly prayer meeting for God to change the hearts of the leadership, faculty, and students at GCC to cause all to seek a biblical approach, rather than a Marxist one, to building unity on campus. Our daughter, a senior and a gifted, young woman who would be an asset to GCC, has chosen not to apply to GCC as an education major due to the secular trends in the education department and the current push to embrace CRT on campus.

Nalene Fleming (Harrisville, 2021-11-11)

#214

I am very concerned about the false teaching of CRT being taught at GCC. It is unbiblical and divisive. My husband (who is not white) was very angry when I showed him this petition and asked: What are we paying for? If GCC continues down this path, we will not consider Grove City for our younger children.

Colette Dimalanta (Medina, 2021-11-11)

#223

I am signing this petition because CRT is a very divisive and evil program that pits people against one another and states that people are evil based on the color or their skin. I did not come to Grove City so I could deal with this type of nonsense, it will cause nothing but dissension and discord.

Julia Pratt (Mount Laurel , 2021-11-11)

#226

To prevent CRT from creeping into any institution, one must intentionally and actively keep it out. At this point in our society, doing nothing is the same as endorsing this theory. As a parent of one current student and another potential student, it concerns me that one of the few truly conservative colleges could fall prey to this deception. Praying for wisdom and discernment for GCC's leaders.

Charlyn Lambrecht (Livonia, 2021-11-11)

#228

Several students from GCC weekly attend our church worship services and other fellowship activities. I have heard stories about this activity in the chapel program and on campus through conversations with them. How this could happen at GCC is very troubling from the top down and it must be rooted out and stopped. A year ago I contacted the office of Dr. Opitz to ask if what I was hearing from a student about CRT within the chapel program and activities of the Diversity Council were true. Dr. Opitz’s secretary had no idea what I was talking about and said I would have to schedule an appointment to question him directly. I did not follow up. Now, having received this thoughtful and well written petition I could not be more concerned about the direction the college has taken by allowing this ideology to take root.

Jennifer McCarren (Butler, 2021-11-11)

#234

I am against the teachings of CRT and the pushing of pronouns that are not Biblical. We can do better, GCC....if this continues, our daughter will be looking elsewhere when she's old enough.

Denise Craig (Baldwinsville, NY, 2021-11-11)

#235

Very concerned about any teaching of CRT at GCC. This is a poisonous ideology and should be rejected and rooted out immediately.

Tim Archer (Glen Mills, 2021-11-11)

#236

Critical Race Theory is Marxist and Marxism has no place in a Christian school or society.

Jeff McLaughlin (Wexford, 2021-11-11)

#238

CRT doesn't belong in the administration and chapel services of a Christian college.

Benjamin Green (Pittsburgh, 2021-11-11)

#239

I came to GCC expecting to be surrounded with healthy conservative ideals, and not be subjected to hearing CRT preached in chapel.

Dietrich Sinkevitch (Williamston , 2021-11-11)

#241

I'm concerned about the direction of Grove City.

Betsy Radcliffe (Pittsburgh, 2021-11-11)

#246

CRT is not a Christian worldview. GCC as a Christian institution should seek to promote a biblical worldview on topics including race.

Mark Radcliffe (Lexington, 2021-11-11)

#247

It is so important to be able to confront and understand the conversation of race happening in our country, especially from a biblical perspective. Grove City has failed at presenting grounded, fair, and comprehensive aspects of this national conversation. Jemar Tysby was an absolute failure of a speaker, and not only because of CRT itself. He did not present a wise understanding of race relations. He told white students to travel to their “country of origin” in order to understand their race, and to go out of your way to make friends of different races, which was the ultimate point of his presentation. This was a simple disgrace and more racist than helpful (The “I have a black friend” argument? Really? It was embarrassing). Not to mention any white person whose family has lived in the US for more than one generation would be laughed at by any European for trying to associate with their nationality.

Grove City is notably very white and very conservative, for better and for worse. It is crucial that we understand CRT in order to confront it, not to be subjected by it. All students, not just white students should be able to confront prejudice and bias when it comes to race relations. We should not be made into devils or angels based on our race, or unforgivable sinners because of our whiteness. Diversity is crucial to any community, and understanding it from a gospel centered perspective is the only way forward for GCC.

Elanor Lambert (Jeffersonton, 2021-11-11)

#249

Grove City College needs to retain its focus on Christian truth, and flee from the world views contrary to the unity found in Christ. Our one daughter transferred TO GCC precisely to avoid this worldview being taught as truth.

Ellen-Maria Willis (Morgantown, 2021-11-11)

#251

Better non-divisive means exist to address racism.

William Hall (Guthrie, OK, 2021-11-11)

#252

This is a primary reason we chose GCC and why it’s a top choice for our current high school senior. We chose GCC for its commitment to Biblical TRUTH and that it does so without caving to politics.

Tracy McDonough (Pittsburgh, 2021-11-11)

#253

My son would be close to home at Hillsdale if Hillsdale offered the science degree he seeks. I used to describe GCC as "Hillsdale plus more sciences", but GCC is straying far from the Biblical and Constitutional standards we hold dear, the same standards which are making Hillsdale one of the last bastions, and one of the most sought educations in the country.

Margo Sinkevitch (Williamston, 2021-11-11)

#254

As a Grove City alumni who values the Christian education I received, I am very saddened to hear about the things mentioned on this petition. Please do not let Grove City cave to CRT and the false ideas promoted by our morally declining society. GCC should stand strong on biblical principles and remain the stronghold against cultural decline that we have known it to be and love it for.

Heather Dunsmoor (Columbus, OH, 2021-11-11)

#255

I’m signing because I don’t want GCC to go from being a Biblically sound Christian college with high academic standards to being just another Christian college that has replaced or added to it’s Biblical truth with cultural non truth. I have recommended GCC to many families of high school students, but will no longer do that if CRT or other unbiblical ideas are taught as truth. Jesus is what our world needs and God’s word which is truth. God will bless a college or university that does not compromise his word. There is a plethora of colleges and universities that will be teaching CRT out there, but GCC should not be one of them.

Janice Williams (Baldwinsville, NY, 2021-11-11)

#256

CRT is a harmful ideology that I wholeheatedly disagree with. It has no place at Grove nor anywhere else.

Jacob Shirk (Ewa Beach, 2021-11-11)

#259

I am very concerned about the presence of this destructive teaching (CRT) on campus. If the allegations are true, then this poison must be stopped. Teaching about racism and the Christian response is one thing, as is teaching ABOUT CRT. Teaching CRT is quite another.

Fr Gregory Mathewes-Green (Johnson City, 2021-11-11)

#261

I never thought this hidden and destructive agenda could take root at GCC. Until President McNulty and the board come clean and take public steps to remove this Godless, Marxist system of lies from GCC, I will steer prospective students and my financial support elsewhere. Forget calling me with the Wolverine Challenge this year. The GCC community needs to read Prof. Trueman’s recent book instead of the racist drivel of Kendi.

Donald Woodard (Greenville SC, 2021-11-11)

#263

Grove City has an outstanding opportunity to provide a distinctive and authentic Christian worldview that embraces objective truth as an alternative to an academic marketplace filled with intolerant groupthink and humanistic relativists that seek to destroy the fabric that knits our society together. Please do not sacrifice a commitment to free inquiry and objective truth, and fail to prepare students to think critically. Please do not deny fundamental truths that are necessary to prepare your students to be the men and women, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers and servants and workers that God calls them to be.

Kenneth Woodard (Taylors, 2021-11-11)

#264

This petition is very well written and I agree wholeheartedly with what is said. I dearly love GCC and am so sad that this is being promoted in the school.

Jocelyn Wiggins (Moscow, 2021-11-11)

#266

CRT is a horrible perversion of the Christian values of charity and freedom in Christ. It is frightening that Grove City College has come under the influence of this cancer that is on the verge of infecting all of academia.

Cal Oren (Baltimore, MD, 2021-11-11)

#268

CRT and the entire woke world view are toxic to anything Christian. GCC must get rid of any, even small, appearance of support for CRT. Put some money and organizational time into speakers that dismantle CRT.

Terry Hansen (Williamston, 2021-11-11)

#271

CRT Is not biblical or ethical.

Laura Fischer (Lancaster , 2021-11-11)

#273

Through firsthand experience - CRT is divisive, it asks us to look at everything through the lens of race and not through the lens of the gospel that sees brothers and sisters in Christ first. This is not to say racism doesn’t exist but we can’t let race explain the causation of every interaction in our lives either.

Audrey Liberati (Fort Myers, 2021-11-11)

#275

This grieves me. I thought I bought an education at a school that values the light of scripture and Biblical truth over the ever-changing whims, petty demands, and shallow trends of the culture. The culture hates God. Those who support CRT hate God, or have been deceived by those who hate God. Grove City College is led by men and women who are different because they follow Jesus Christ, the One who only discriminates based off of whether we are covered by His blood. CRT is anti-gospel, anti-God, anti-scripture. I pray that GCC's leaders will see the light and do the right, hard thing: buck against the so-called wisdom of the world. Fight for your distinction, Grove City College.

Elise Bromen (Westerville, 2021-11-11)

#276

President McNulty and I had a good rapport while I attended. I am sympathetic to the trials of his role, and am grateful for his leadership. I care for him, his family, and the GCC community and am signing to display that support.

Andrew Irving (Waynesboro, 2021-11-11)

#277

GCC has unfortunately for some time now subtly, yet surely gone in a more progressive direction with the chapel program, some classes, and even the way in which the administration's emails are worded and structured (i.e. we receive a very celebratory and PC email after the George Floyd riots and protests, but receive an email blatantly condemning the Jan. 6 Capitol riots--both are wrong but the double standard in which they are painted to the student body is evident). Of course it is laudable to bring difference of opinion on campus, but that is all we have received the past year. I have not heard a truly unabashedly conservative speaker/preacher on campus yet. The issue of CRT should be met head-on to engender an open dialogue on the topic, and to cease slowing pushing an agenda without acknowledging what it really is.

Concerned Student (Grove City, 2021-11-11)

#279

I agree entirely with the petition. As a grove city college current student, I have been deeply troubled by this shift in GCC’s values. Watching the trajectory of the college, I would not send my children here in the future.

Olivia Brackbill (Grove City , 2021-11-11)

#280

Left-wing racial propaganda has no place in chapel. I was present at the aforementioned chapel with Pastor Opitz and was not pleased.

Alex Zeilstra (Western Springs, 2021-11-11)

#282

I 100% will withdraw my student if this issue is not resolved to my satisfaction.

Stacey Fischer (Lancaster , 2021-11-11)

#283

CRT is contrary to the teachings of the Gospel and wreaks only division where it is taught- and the embrace of the Gospel by GCC is a main reason people choose to go there

Elena Guerra (Ft Myers, FL, 2021-11-11)

#284

CRT is evil and should never be taught to any children. This leftist indoctrination tactic is pure evil.

David Lang (Randleman NC, 2021-11-11)

#285

CRT is a distortion of the truth and should not be taught as truth.

Larry Fischer (Lancaster , 2021-11-11)

#288

CRT is utterly poisonous. How many Christian colleges are teaching such a dangerously deadly ideology - might I even say "religion"?

Rebecca Jones (Escondido, 2021-11-11)

#295

Please bring Christ-centered teaching back to chapel.

Melissa Lambert (Jeffersonton, 2021-11-12)

#296

CRT denies the work and person of Christ removing forgiveness of sins and assigning permanent guilt and perpetual penance to those that submit to the teachings of CRT.

CRT is heresy.

Shawn Lambert (Warrenton , 2021-11-12)

#297

I’m signing bc my grandson asked me to consider this petition & sign if I agreed. He’s concerned about CRT infiltrating his college. He went there precisely bc of Christian values & Truth-teaching at GCC.

Donna Doig (Western Springs Il, 2021-11-12)

#303

CRT is a communist Trojan Horse designed to destroy our young people. I’m a black lawyer with a nephew and a niece having gone through GCC, and I’ve seen the damage that race hustlers and white liberals have done.

Nathan Franklin (Bay City, 2021-11-12)

#305

Preferred pronouns… really? So disappointed, GCC. At the time of my years there, GCC stood out because it was beautifully different. Don’t cave & become like everyone else. Don’t look for the easy road. God is not honored in that. As my sons are entering the college years, I would like to consider GCC as a solid possibility. If this slide continues, however, we most certainly will not.

Kristin Cooney (Seigworth) (Lyman, 2021-11-12)

#307

As a black parent of both a former student and current student, I am deeply saddened to hear that CRT has found its way onto the Grove City campus. Whether it’s explicitly or implicitly taught is irrelevant because it is undeniably a racist construct developed by those who want to continue to divide this country. And sadly many christians accept it under the guise of “social justice,” completely ignoring that Jesus is our redeemer. We don’t, as christians, need “social justice,” because Jesus is able to complete a good work in us. We look to Him for our redemption, not man. While I can go on to discuss my rich black heritage and slave ancestry, I don’t need to dwell on the past because I am not a victim. Therefore our children have not been taught victimhood. They were not raised to be victims and they will not be victims. Additionally, they are half white so under CRT, are they both oppressed and victimized? It’s a ridiculous construct that has no place on a college campus that preaches both faith and freedom.

Stephanie Jackson (Brookfield , 2021-11-12)

#308

I am saddened and angered and totally shocked to read about CRT being taught to students at the college my children, my husband, and I graduated from- a college with such strong Christian and Biblical principals that I NEVER thought it would give up for a non Christian, false worldview as critical race theory. How can we ever think of sending our grandchildren to our beloved GCC if this is what it's to become??? Very, very sad and disturbing.

Linda Tinkey(maiden name Petruzzi) (Oviedo, Florida, 2021-11-12)

#309

I am signing because I agree with this petition’s differentiation between a biblical understanding of race vs. CRT and it is concerning to me that GCC might be embracing the latter. Conversations about race must be had if students are going to be well prepared to engage our culture like Christ, but I strongly desire for the college to expose students to a biblical perspective on it vs. a modern approach that is rooted in fundamentally false assumptions about the nature of reality, God and man.

Eliza Gordon (Grove City , 2021-11-12)

#314

I am signing because these parents hit the nail on the head. The belief in total depravity is a crucial foundation to a Biblical worldview and education. I am signing because students need to be armed with the Truth and because CRT flies in the face of Ephesians 2. I am also signing because the Church is in a spiritual battle, and the need to equip students to rebuild Christian civilization from the ash-heap of Western culture is desperate. I am disheartened by the weak stand of my alma mater, and I agree that the best move for the college is to make a public stand for the truth.

Raymond Bromen (Columbus, 2021-11-12)

#315

May I recommend Voddie T. Baucham, Jr.'s book, Fault Lines [The Social Justice Movement and Evangelicalism’s Looming Catastrophe]. Voddie is a black pastor and seminary professor. He provides a sound analysis of CRT/I and cites original source material on both sides of the issue.

Harry Yates (Hurricane, 2021-11-12)

#318

CRT directly opposes God's created order and the fact that His image bearers are served justice and grace because of the blood of Christ Jesus. Forgiven people love much and do not suppress one another under the man made weight of caste systems of intersectionality. CRT has no place among the people of God.

Glynnon Wiggins (Moscow, 2021-11-12)

#331

As an alumni I know that GCC has always been a "City on a Hill, " an exception to the normal Christian College that has moved away from its original purpose, developing strong Christian leaders for the world. This is shocking and disappointing. This needs addressed immediately or GCC will no longer have the reputation of being a place that students can receive a Christian world view within their educational experience. My husband an I have supported GCC for many years and will have to reconsider our donations in the future if this continues to be an issue on campus.

Brandi Bertolino (Strongstown, 2021-11-12)

#332

I’m signing because CRT is a false and destructive ideology.

Ana Sophia Smokowicz (Grove City, 2021-11-12)

#334

CERT in any form is cancer to Christian values and degrades the traditional values of Grove City College.

Frederick Jenny (Cranberry Twp, 2021-11-12)

#336

I’m so disappointed as this is a conservative institution caving to societal pressures in order to gain diverse students.

Lois Johnson (Freedom, 2021-11-12)

#338

CRT was created to divide races and ultimately this country.

Anne Jackson Sleggs (Mayville , 2021-11-12)

#340

CRT assigns oppressors and the victimized based strictly on race. That is patently racist and has no place at GCC or any other part of a just society!

R Williams (Lake Zurich , 2021-11-12)

#341

Biblical principles should’ve taught at GCC not racist agenda.

M Williams (Lake Zurich , 2021-11-12)

#347

I whole heartedly agree.

Connie Mcgalla (Toronto , 2021-11-12)

#359

I chose to attend GCC because of its commitment to a Christian worldview, which is incompatible with CRT. With the benefit of its education, I am now litigating to defend religious freedom, free speech, and our nation's heritage--all things that CRT seeks to destroy. And by God's grace, we are winning victories so that God's people do not have to parrot things like "preferred pronouns"--victories that GCC now seems prepared to squander voluntarily and with little hesitation.

Because of GCC's advertised commitment to maintaining a "thoroughly Christian environment," I have encouraged countless students to consider GCC, including two of my siblings--whose education I have helped to fund. It nauseates me to learn that an institution I have long loved is succumbing to such an insidious, Marxist-rooted, and unbiblical ideology--using funds that my family and I have scrimped and saved under the now apparently false impression that my siblings would be spared such nonsense at GCC and would instead get a quality education.

At such a time as this, people throughout the country are looking for a college willing to stand up for its principles, willing to resist the ideological fads of the moment (especially CRT). GCC--"Freedom's College"--should be that institution. After all, it told the federal government to take a hike. But if this College will not stand, the Lord will have to raise up other faithful institutions to serve His people.

Travis Barham (Loganville, GA, 2021-11-12)

#361

I think that the first paragraph summarized my thoughts very well:

"...we chose Grove City College precisely because it upholds a biblical worldview across the academic disciplines while other Christian institutions are surrendering to the prevailing secular orthodoxy. Commitment to that biblical worldview was so important to us that we were willing to make enormous financial sacrifices to send our children to a college with an unwavering resolve to defend what we hold dear."

As a parent of two GCC graduates, I was extremely grateful for the predominately Christian environment and student and faculty relationships that they both experienced while attending Grove. As opposed to other postsecondary 'educational' institutions, Grove City College uniquely stood out to me in my mind and also in my unreserved and glowing recommendation to other parents making college choices in the midst of troubled secular times.

It is I who am now troubled. I am uncertain that Grove City College's future will be at all distinguishable from the way of the World.

Edward Robison (Williamsburg, 2021-11-12)

I desire to see oppression end. In order to pursue justice we need to preserve freedom of thought. Respectful dialogue can lead us to better understanding and provide a foundation for next steps.

Erin Gray (Sinclairville , 2021-11-12)

#366

CRT divides people.

William Krut (PITTSBURGH, 2021-11-12)

#369

I’m signing because I would like to see the integrity of GCC preserved

Lynne Morris Sparber (Albion, 2021-11-12)

#370

I’m signing because I think there should still be places in the world that are safe from popular left-leaning ideology.

Sandra Jerich (Saxonburg , 2021-11-12)

#376

I am concerned that Grove City College is leaving Biblical teaching for popular political theories. These political theories are designed to tear down the country, not work toward unity and a God fearing nation.

Judy Robison (Tiffin, Iowa, 2021-11-12)

#377

My children and I chose GCC because it is a conservative Christian college, adhering to a Biblical worldview in all things. Its strong stance on maintaining its independence from federal funds is attractive to me as a parent, not because I am wealthy, far from it, but because it allows the school to remain faithful to Christ and not whatever is politically expedient or popular at the time. We have been so thankful for the high-quality and holistic education my son has experienced at GCC for the last 2.5 years. Anti-racism and CRT (though this is a general use of a specific term - there is not a good catch-all term for this new line of thought) is anti-Biblical and has nothing whatsoever to do with Christ and His Word. I am appalled that any student would ever be demeaned for their race at GCC and made to confess racism or any other evil by virtue of their skin color - no matter what race they are. This should be firmly denounced by the leaders at the college. Is there not a uniquely Biblical way of looking at race and bringing unity? I implore you to bring truly Biblical scholarship on race, which does exist, free of CRT, to GCC and be at the forefront of a truly Christian voice in the culture. Echoing non-biblical voices on race will destroy GCC and all the institutions it touches. My student is concerned by the CRT he sees on campus and which he says is becoming more prominent, and we will not hesitate to seek out other schools should this persist.

Anthea Shirk (Ewa Beach, 2021-11-12)

#378

I certainly expect better from GCC and hope that concrete action is taken to correct the apparent CRT infiltration into campus culture and teachings.

Nancy Ray McMurray (Oak Island, NC, 2021-11-12)

#381

I am a minister of the gospel in a conservative, Presbyterian, and Reformed congregation. I have recommended GCC to various young people in my congregation. I will be unable to continue to do so if GCC follows the trend to adopt the unbiblical, racist, politically motivated, and false teachings of CRT. Please stop allowing access to students by CRT proponents. Please remove those from the staff of GCC who are advocating it. In short, please take a clear stand against CRT so there is no doubt and we can continue to recommend GCC for future students.

Michael Pasarilla (Knoxville, 2021-11-12)

#382

As former Chairman of the US J William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board I have become acutely aware of the increasing dangers of CRT in both international and National education.

Charles Dunn (Clemson, 2021-11-12)

#384

My brother in law received a education from Grove City College. He is a smart young man and left me and others with a positive impression of GCC. If GCC is allowing CRT to flourish on their campus then my impression is no longer favorable. Christian colleges are responsible to teach truth, not the latest fads. If they reject that responsibility then they are worse than a Public University who serves only the state. Learn from Virginia: CRT is toxic to everyone.

Justin Short (Colorado Springs, 2021-11-12)

#386

I agree with the letter.

Angela Dickhudt (Troy, 2021-11-12)

I am against CRT because it is rooted in Marxism.

George Eaton (Woodstock , 2021-11-12)

#389

I am absolutely opposed to the teaching of CRT and never thought I had to be concerned about it happening at my beloved GCC!

Kari Adams (Harmony , 2021-11-12)

#392

I have always loved GCC for its biblical stance on the issues and in their education. I have been asked by a number of students to write letters of recommendation for admission to this college. I would like to continue recommending this college in the future as a biblically sound institution.

Steven Vaughan (Aurora, 2021-11-12)

#393

I disagree with this teaching. It is not biblical.

Susan Morris Bartek (Saxonburg , 2021-11-12)

#397

I am appalled that GCC would diverge from values and principals rooted in the truth of God’s Word and instead take on worldly agendas like CRT.

Shaney Mitchell (Mars, 2021-11-12)

#399

I believe CRT is a false worldview.

Henrik Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, 2021-11-12)

#400

I’m signing bc I’m very concerned about the contents of this letter and about the action of GCC faculty and staff if what is stated in the letter is true. If GCC is proceeding along the paths of all other higher education institutions then what is distinctly Christian about GCC? We look forward to your thoughtful reply!!
