Barnsadale Gardens is a valuable asset in promoting and maintaining the value of horticulture

This is on my doorstep and one of the benefits of living is the beautiful open countryside

Gary Marshall (Exton , 2022-09-28)

#613

There are far TOO MANY solar farm applications being made. The proposed land of many is vital arable land, being sold by greedy individuals with no concern for the environment or peoples welfare

Philip Franklin (Stamford, 2022-09-28)

#619

Barnsdale Gardens is a peaceful place to enjoy nature. Mainly quiet though occasional traffic noise from Barnsdale Avenue. Increased noise from nearby would put me off making a monthly visit.

Monty Knight-Olds (Oakham, 2022-09-29)

#622

I think it's completely wrong to build it so close to an established garden enjoyed by so many

Lorna Kirk (Norwich , 2022-09-29)

#623

As a member of barnsdale Gardens and a regular visitor,I am shocked that this has not been thought through.
It will ruin for thousands of people the tranquility of these very special gardens.
And all the wildlife that enters this area.
Although I am a very green person,I believe the idea is good, but considerations must be thought out.
Therefore I am very much against this project.
Kindest regards
Brian

I’m signing because Barnsdale Gardens is an amazing garden for us all to visit with so much history attached. It would be a very sad day for us all if it was forced to close!

Anne Blake (Kings Sutton, 2022-10-01)

#640

This is a top visitor attraction and the ability to visit one of the most iconic gardens of recent times is important. The garden helps illustrate how recycling and upcycling can work successfully for gardeners as well as inspiring young people to learn about the benefits of having gardening and horticulture in their lives. Please rethink this strategy to place a solar farm adjacent to this garden.

Sue Sheppard (Petersfield, 2022-10-01)

#647

Barnsdale Gardens is a great model for: how to garden; how to garden ORGANICALLY; and how to garden for wildlife. There is such a lot to learn here, & it is vital that the spirit & peace of the place is maintained.

Christine Willis (Bury St Edmunds, 2022-10-04)

#648

I believe that Solar farms should not be granted planning permission on usable agricultural land and the gardens should not be subject to unnecessary noise and disruption to its business.

Neil Burgin (Nottingham, 2022-10-04)

#649

We need other forms of electricity generation which will not blight our countryside and valuable farmland

Philip Dawson (Stamford , 2022-10-04)

#656

I am signing this petition and hope that it has more success than our own fight in 2015.

Jean Tunstill (Bedfordshire, 2022-10-05)

#657

Barnsdale Gardens is one of the most special gardens in the country, and it’s peaceful location should not be ruined by a solar farm right next to its boundary.

Susan Koster (Stamford , 2022-10-06)

#659

You can put solar elsewhere (ideally on roof tops where it is needed). Who are we if we don’t protect nice things

Matt Naylor (Spalding , 2022-10-06)

#660

Barnsdale is a special place and should be marred by the solar farm coming so close

David Hodson (Greetham, 2022-10-07)

I would really miss my trips out to see the gardens throughout the year

Linda Meichan (Peterborough , 2022-10-07)

#665

Amazing place to go and it's a fantastic day out for all of the family. It would be a terrible shame to ruin it with a wind farm and Barnsdale Gardens has such a strong and beautiful history

Martha Hamilton (Oakham, 2022-10-08)

#668

Barnsdale Gardens is a special place with a unique history

Stephanie Magee (Wigston, 2022-10-09)

I am signing because I strongly oppose the planned solar farm at Barnsdale in Rutland. This is planned for building a solar farm on high Grade farmland. Thhis must continued to be used for farming . Solar panel farm must be built on BROWN FIELD sites only.

Andrew Hunter (OAKHAM, 2022-10-10)

#671

I am signing to protect the legacy left by a great gardener

Geoffrey Crossett (HASTINGS, 2022-10-10)

#672

This has been a much loved garden for decades, it needs to be saved

Rebecca Coston (Oakham , 2022-10-10)

#676

Solar panels should be put on the roofs of houses and offices, NOT on prime agricultural land which is needed to produce food for our ever expanding population

Judith Marshall (Wymondham, 2022-10-11)

#677

Solar power should be on houses and offices not destroying agricultural land needed for food production.

Simon James (Wymondham, 2022-10-11)

#680

there is only one Barnsdale Gardens , with its unique origins .... it should not be lost.

Michael Hughes (shirley ,solihull, 2022-10-12)

#682

I am so upset that Barnsdale will be destroyed by the development. Surely ther must be alternative sites in Rutland. I have visited Barnsdale many times and it's association with Geoff and his son and its beauty and tranquility has helped me enormously during some very dark times in my life. Geoff was a "peoples gardener"and such an inspiration to garden lovers like myself . There will never be another Geoff Hamilton and in the current unstable times at present we need him and all he stood for.

PLEASE DO NOT DESTROY THIS LIFELINE TO ORDINARY PEOPLE.

Geoff Sait (Peterborough, 2022-10-14)

#694

This has been my 'happy place' for over 2 decades and it would be outrageous to lose it.

Dee Sait (Crowland, Peterborough, 2022-10-14)

#695

I’m signing because while I care deeply about climate change and support the need for low carbon energy generation, this energy developer (Econergy) has no interest in combining generation with biodiversity, sustainable food production or anything other than profitability.

Sarah Glenn (King’s Lynn, 2022-10-14)

#702

Solar power is good but should be situated in the right place, not on arable farmland next to an important garden that employs 34 staff and is a visitor attraction.

M D (Cupar , 2022-10-15)

#709

I need disabled access and this is somewhere we can go. It's so beautiful and full of beautiful trees, flowers, wildlife and birds. Please don't force it to close by building a solar farm next to it

Sarah Bingham (Worksop, 2022-10-18)

#711

I am a frequent visitor to Barnsdale and consider it a valuable local amenity.

It would be a considerable loss

Rob KING (OAKHAM, 2022-10-18)

I’m signing because Barnsdale Gardens is one of the jewels of Rutland, both for local people and for thousands of visitors. We need to find a balance between meeting energy needs and protecting our cultural and environmental assets.

Sandra Taylor (Oakham, 2022-10-19)

#720

It's the nicest place we have ever visited.service and staff are second to none.breakfasts out of this world. Terrible news if barnsdale closes for a monstrosity to be built close by. Plenty of other areas to consider.long live barnsdale Gardens!!!!

Shaun Fox (Spalding, 2022-10-20)

#723

The garden is a beautiful place to visit and it would be a great loss to our gardening heritage if it had to close. We are supporters of renewables but LOVE Barnsdale more.

Niamh McNamara (Birmingham, 2022-10-29)

Barnsdale Gardens are a huge asset and attraction for the Rutland area to say nothing about the wonderful work done by Geoff Hamilton originally. It provides peace of mind when visiting it and enhances wildlife and nature.

Josephine King (Oakham, 2022-10-29)

#744

Because it is vital we support and protect geoffs legacy.

Kay Kelly (Southend on sea, 2022-10-30)

#745

I’m signing this petition as I/we my family have visited Barnsdale Gardens many times, a beautiful peaceful and educational place to visit. The area is of natural beauty and diverse wildlife we need to conserve areas like this for future education and skill sets. It would be a disgrace to see Barnsdale close because of renewable energy, we have to protect all that is great that Barnsdale has to offer. Sad to hear this news. Protect Barnsdale Gardens for future generations to enjoy. 😳

Colin Richards (Peterborough, 2022-10-30)

#748

My memories of Geoff Hamilton building these gardens for TV"s Gardener's World inspired me to garden.
I want them to continue as a memorial to him

Jennifer Evans (West Byfleet, 2022-10-30)

#751

Barnsdale gardens are legacy gardens, created by Geoff Hamilton. I found my love of gardening watching Geoff create these gardens and the joy in visiting them is unquantifiable, To lose them is unthinkable, to lose a place of such peace, joy and atmosphere unbearable.

Annie Kilby (Cambridge , 2022-10-31)

#757

I am signing this petition against the solar panels in fields alongside Barnsdale Gardens because it is an existing business that gives so much pleasure and interest to many people all through the year. These panels need to be put where there are not businesses that will be so seriously affected that they will have to close.

Linda Pattison (Stamford lincs, 2022-11-01)

#763

Geoff Hamilton’s legacy must be preserved

Philip Hunt (Llanfair Caereinion, 2022-11-02)

#764

There must be better places to put solar panels. How about along motorways and railway embankments, like they do in Switzerland???

Elizabeth Meek (Maidstone, 2022-11-03)

#767

We need to keep our green gardens

Neil Stewart (Bewdley, 2022-11-05)

#769

Solar farms are a blot on the landscape and, in this particular location, would cause noise pollution in one of this country's most well known gardens.

Ruth Freeman (Wisbech, 2022-11-06)

#771

This proposed solar power plant would in addition to detracting from the amenity of Barnsdale Gardens remove good agricultural land from food production as well as disturbing wildlife.

James Tate (Dorking , 2022-11-06)

#772

I love to visit Barnsdale when I come to Rutland each year. This will be a sad loss to the area

Christine Carpenter (Forest Hall, 2022-11-06)

#773

It is imperative that in this setting, Nature and the retention of the national treasure of Barnsdale Garden is prioritised over a solar energy field . Barnsdale Garden is a valuable tourist attraction and worth keeping in a county which relies heavily on tourism for its economy.

Joanne Philip (Southend-on-Sea, 2022-11-06)

#774

Geoff Hamilton was a huge influence in my gardening life. The gardens at Barnsdale are truly inspirational and it is wonderful that his son Nick is keeping the garden going. His dad would be so proud!

Lynn Baker (London, 2022-11-06)

Sarah Haynes (Birmingham, 2022-11-10)

I'm a supporter of Barnsdales beautiful gardens. I have their best interests at heart. Geoff Hamilton would be devastated.

Susan Barnard (Attleborough, 2022-11-13)

#791

we need solar energy, but we also need to look carefully at where these are sited

John Timmis (Birmingham, 2022-11-15)

#793

I fully support the opposition to the solar panels being placed next to Barnsdale gardens.
Large numbers of people and wildlife enjoy the gardens for their peace & tranquility as well as natural beauty.
It is also an attraction for visitors (myself & family included) to visit Rutland and enjoy the area. This would just not be the same.

Joanne Bailey (Congleto , 2022-11-16)

#794

Having visited the gardens and enjoyed the peace and quiet and the beautiful gardens it would be a travesty for it to have to close due to the noise levels of solar panels. We visit places like Barnsdale just because of the tranquility they offer.
