Ask the West Nodaway R-1 Board of Education to grant Camryn Brady's appeals to remain in the A+ Program and go on senior trip.

Obviously, this just isn’t right. Doing the right thing can not get lost in some rules….would that teach kindness and understanding?

Sharon Fristoe (Raymore, 2023-01-20)

#602

She deserves to be apart of these things and reading this makes me feel bad
So much has been taken from her

Elayna Sherer (Cannon Falls, 2023-01-20)

#603

She deserves these things!

Terri Tobin Uhlmeyer (Hawk Point, 2023-01-20)

#607

Health comes first. You cannot punish a student due to something out of their control. Dr notes should be enough to excuse and not punish a student. It's obvious she is not avoiding s hook and doing her best. Chronic illness robs one from so much, schools should not rob them from even more. This type of punishment just says, give up it's not worth it. Effort doesn't matter.

Sarah Williams (Odessa, 2023-01-20)

#610

It's the right thing to do this young lady deserves this program

Rebecca Davis (Sedalia, 2023-01-20)

#611

It appears to me that this smart and dedicated student deserves to participate. In a society where education has become further delayed due to illnesses, students that have continued to excel in their studies should be celebrated.

David Henry (Valley Center, 2023-01-20)

#614

West Nodaway BOE and Administration got this wrong! It is time to make it right. Reverse your errant decision. Camryn Brady deserves better.

Michael Johnson (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#615

She should be allowed to go on her senior trip.

Brandi Rios (Maryville , 2023-01-20)

#617

I believe this was not her fault and she's smart and deserves to go.

Lisa Schauer (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#619

I am signing because, despite the numerous surgeries that were out of Camryn's control, she has been able to maintain above and beyond the requirements that should allow her to participate in the senior trip. There is no excuse to deny her of that. She has adequate documentation that support the reasons for her absences and needing surgical procedures done should be exempt. Do the right thing here!

Stacey Reasoner (Auburn, 2023-01-20)

#620

Can we please get back to making common sense decisions and STOP the ridiculousness of one set of rules for everyone. Life happens and “punishing” her is so wrong and disgusting!

Brenda Lebsack (St Joseph, 2023-01-20)

#621

This girl has proven in so many ways she is still eligible. Not ok for the school to handle it this way!

Melinda Sabelko (Cannon Falls, 2023-01-20)

#624

I'm signing because grit, courage, and perseverance during adversity should be praised, encouraged, and rewarded instead of punished.

Scot Calfee (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#625

Camryn needs to be on the trip. It is the right thing to do.

Catherine Doering (St. Louis, 2023-01-20)

#627

She deserves an appeal.

Kerbie Divine (Higginsville, 2023-01-20)

#635

Hard work and determination should pay off! This young woman deserves the opportunity.

Shawna Martin (Richmond, 2023-01-20)

#636

This young lady, despite what has been thrown at her physically and emotionally has continued to excell and should not be punished for things that were out of her control. Have some empathy and compassion. Help her excell in life by rewarding her hard work. We need more young people like her. Don't kick her while she is down. Lift her up and encourage her to continue to pursue her dreams.

Catherine Griffin (Thompson, 2023-01-20)

#638

She deserves her A+.

ella grace (burlington jct, 2023-01-20)

#640

Being withheld an A+ scholarship because an emergency surgery isn't considered an "excused absence" is ridiculous. This is an embarrassing affront by the school board.

Jordan Sheehan (Kansas city , 2023-01-20)

#645

This is absolutely mind blowing how the school is treating the poor girl… hope and pray she gets back on the A+ program and gets to go on the senior trip😊

Morgan Parker (Savannah, 2023-01-20)

#646

This is a travesty and needs to be changed. I’m a NWMissouri native and this could happen anywhere.

Susan Slatton (Doyle, 2023-01-20)

#648

It’s the right thing to do. She’s already been thru so much.

Barb Scoggins (Muscotah, 2023-01-20)

#649

Quality education policies assist every student on a pathway for growth & success during their enrollment at said institution. Such policies will reflect students physical and mental health, along with academic and extracurricular attendance and accomplishments.
Education policy is meant to bring individual and institutional success, not punishment.
You can’t treat people like Camryn is being treated and expect a healthy educational environment. Education is assisting each student and staff to find pathways to move through, around or over obstacles to meet and or exceed their goals.
I tried to find the mission statement for North Nodaway “Rockets”, but was unsuccessful. Curious how it reads.

Denise Jasinski (Springfield , 2023-01-20)

#650

She needs a chance!

Shannon Latimer (Saint Joseph, 2023-01-20)

#654

Medical absences are valid, excused and should not be reason for punishment. A excellent student in & out of the classroom while battling serious health issues has more than earned her right to A+ scholarship & senior trip!

Hallie Laning (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#658

Discrimination!!! This girl does not deserve to have all of this taken away from her over health issues that are out of her control!

Abby Wade (Albany, 2023-01-20)

#659

Camryn deserves to go on the senior trip. She did her part. A principal promised her absences would be excused therefore the school has a contract to her, whether it was written or verbal. Despite there is a new principal, the school should in no way feel they can ignore their contract. Contract violations lead to smearing a school name. Please do what's right for this young lady who works hard in school and fought through all of her hospital visits.

JD WEAVER (OMAHA, 2023-01-20)

#660

She clearly, supported by documentation, has a chronic health condition that prevented her from physically being in class. To prevent her from attending her senior trip and removing her from the A+ program is completely unethical. She is a stellar student with a servant’s heart.

Anyssa Lantz (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#663

What has happened to her is not her fault she didn’t ask for cancer she didn’t ask for surgery so there for im signing because the school is in the wrong and she deserves it she is a survivor

Tonja Galyan (Burlington Junction, 2023-01-20)

#664

Camryn DESERVES to stay in the A+ program, go on her senior trip, AND an apology from every member of the BOE at West Nodaway. This is AWFUL! Shame on everyone involved who has failed her.

Annika Johnson (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#667

Camryn IS an A+ student who deserves to participate in all activities as much, if not more than, her classmates!

Tammy Lally (St. Ann, 2023-01-20)

#668

I don’t think it’s fair to stop her from participating with the A+ Program or from her Sr Trip! This girl has been thru enough, why don’t these small town attitudes focus more on improving this girls last moments in High School instead of jumping in to tear her down further?? This does not sound like true educators, this sounds more like personal issues from small town adults who have taken over the school instead of unbiased education & care for all. Truly a shame.

Debbi Rainey (Porri, 2023-01-20)

#670

This girl deserves to be able to use her A+ as well as go on her senior trip. It is absolutely not her fault that she has had medical issues and surgeries. Why do we punish her for them. You all should be ashamed of your self!

Alisha Rinehart (Kansas City, 2023-01-20)

#672

former Rocket, 1968, you ought to do what's right by the young lady.
Galen O. Peery

Galen Peery (Clarinda, 2023-01-20)

#673

You are punishing her for her illness.

Mary stephens (Auxvasse, 2023-01-20)

#674

This school should be ashamed of themselves! To punish a kid due to health emergencies. While she still is excelling in school! These are the kids that should get all the kudos to help them succeed. How can a system that is supposedly out to help kids succeed even think for one moment there logic is anything but pathetic.

Carla Raney (Nevada, 2023-01-20)

#675

This is so incredibly unfair to punish a child for health issues. The school should be ashamed that this petition even has to be sent out.

Jaclyn Jackman (Garden City, 2023-01-20)

#677

This shouldn’t even be up for debate, let this student participate in the few things that make high-school enjoyable.

To the West Nodaway R-1 Board of Education, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Justin Murphy (Albany , 2023-01-20)

#678

I believe this young lady deserves to be given the honor of going on her senior trip. She has fought through everything that has been thrown her way and proven she is deserving. Kudos to this young lady for striving and working so hard to be the best student and best example for any of her peers.

Kerri Mains (Cherryvale, 2023-01-20)

#680

I believe she has earned this. He is done everything in her power to comply. Her unfortunate health issues should not interfere, they have all been documented by physicians and that should be sufficient.

Tamie Hedges (Kansas city , 2023-01-20)

#681

This child has had medical issues beyond her control. She has continued to maintain her grades & responsibilities. I feel that the board making this decision has micromanaged a qualified Doctor. This child has had enough pain & suffering beyond her control! I pray the board changes their decision

Jodie Wurster (Mount Ayr, 2023-01-20)

#687

Camryn has fulfilled all the qualifications, and then some, to retain her position on the A+and go on the senior trips. Her absences were out of her control and were all backed up with doctor's notes. She should not be punished by taking away what is rightfully hers.

Cat Bradley (McDonough, 2023-01-20)

#692

The fact that she kept up with the work and continued to work as hard as she did through a medical issue she had no control over... she deserves this.

Maeve Genevieve (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#693

This young woman is an outstanding student even with the severe health issues she has had to endure. According to the law she should not be penalized due to her disability. Denying her is discriminatory due to her disability and can be subject to criminal charges and fines under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Genevieve Malone (Burlington Jct, 2023-01-20)

#694

She deserves the credit and program

Cheryl Couch (Kansas City, 2023-01-20)

#700

I feel as long as her work was done and caught up while she had medical issues she should be aloud to participate...

Shelley Rodriguez (Garfield, 2023-01-20)

#701

Illness like this should be waived for punishment because it was necessary. Punishment for things that were clearly put of her control is absurd. This is a special circumstance and there she should be allowed to participate.

Andia Rush (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#702

I also have a child with medical issues that had to miss school

Deana Gialde (Kearney , 2023-01-20)

#706

From first hand experience. No person should have to worry about participating in programs she has earned as a result of documented medical absences.

Cynthia Eckstein (Maryville , 2023-01-20)

#707

I believe a student has the right to appeal a decision when they have met all requirements for a given situation.

Virginia Ripple (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#710

It's wrong that this young gal should be punished for being ill. Through it all she has maintained a perfect GPA and represented the school quite well

Dixie Duty (Defiance, 2023-01-20)

#712

She was doctor excused! School punishing her for having surgery is PATHETIC!

Tabitha Ploof (Maryville , 2023-01-20)

#713

I believe in fairness.

Linda Walton (Saint Louis, 2023-01-20)

#715

Good grief don't they think this girl has been through enough...NO they should not take away her opportunity to go to college or Senior trip.

Ann Carrithers (St Joseph, 2023-01-20)

#719

This girl had no control of health issues and surgeries. She deserves a senior trip and the A+ program

Nikie Kirk (Cainsville, 2023-01-20)

#721

As a teacher at another local school I would argue for my students as well. This is out of her control and having surgeries and emergencies should be excused. She is clearly still doing everything asked and staying caught up.

Tiffany Bliley (Conception Jct., 2023-01-20)

#723

This is wrong

Tara Embley (Maitland, 2023-01-20)

#724

I think the rules need to be reviewed. If ever there was a case for “exception,” it appears Camryn would be #1 on the list. I definitely think she should be allowed to stay in the A + Program and allowed to go on the senior trip if she feels up to it!

Dianne Kunath (Dearborn, 2023-01-20)

#725

The West Nodaway School Board is voted in by the people to serve those same people. Their community and their students. Override your administration and your policies and do the right thing.

Cassie Partridge (Skidmore , 2023-01-20)

#726

Punishing young kids especially females for poor health is absolutely ridiculous. This will make students question their own health & not be forthcoming with issues that should be addressed. I understand that there are 2 sides to every story so I hope there is a good excuse for denying this young lady what are more than reasonable exceptions. Stop teaching our children they don’t matter. This has come up before at Nodaway Holt & never was it an issue for those with health & surgery issues! It doesn’t cost anything to do the right thing!

Kimberly Fuhrman (Skidmore, 2023-01-20)

#727

Reading about what she has been through and what she has still accomplished - honor roll, president of FBLA and the national Honor Society, she has done exceptional well in spite of those EXCUSED absences.

Twyla Hazen (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#729

Students should not be punished due to unforeseen illnesses. It looks like she has done quite well academically considering what she has been up against.

Trena Morrison (Platte City, 2023-01-20)

#731

This young lady needs to be allowed to go on her senior trip and continuing with the A+ program

Jamie Edwards (Savannah, 2023-01-20)

#732

She should be allowed to go.

Rose Eckstein (Maryville , 2023-01-20)

#733

I am signing because this student deserves to attend the trip and participate in the A+ program. It is ridiculous for a school to punish a high achieving student for something outside of her control. Grant the appeals. It is the just thing to do.

Lori Vitale (Kansas City, 2023-01-20)

#734

This isn’t right it’s not her fault she’s sick. Who made the rule that she couldn’t attend needs to be ashamed of yourself.

Vicki Cook (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#738

It’s the right thing to do.

Traci Edson (Saint Joseph, 2023-01-20)

#740

School board should take her medical issues seriously and stop trying punish her for something out of her control. Exceptions can be made and should be made for her.

Codie Strough (Elmo, 2023-01-20)

#741

Camryn shouldn’t be punished for things that were 1000% out of her control. If she has continued to work hard to succeed even in the midst of being in constant pain, I believe that should be commended rather than condemned.

Madeline Wiedmaier (Maryville, 2023-01-20)

#745

I believe Camryn has exemplified courage and determination to overcome obstacles while maintaining high academic standards.

Mary Newmaster (Chesterfield, 2023-01-20)

#747

I’m signing because it’s the right thing to do and seems like she has worked hard and deserves all of the things that are being taken away from her.

Tyler Chesnut (Hopkins, 2023-01-20)

#752

If she has every doctor note then she should be excused as the hand book states and she should get to go on senior trip and still be enrolled in the A+ program

Kristie Sorensen (Albany, 2023-01-20)

#755

I’m signing this because you’re only a senior once and she’s doing everything she can and more! This is unfair, and not right! COVID ruined my senior year don’t let someone’s absences take away memories that could be made

Torrance Husk (Trinidad, 2023-01-20)

#759

It is absolutely ridiculous and disgusting to even have this happen to her.

Callie Porter (GRETNA, 2023-01-20)

#760

Camryn is an excellent student with a stellar academic record. Beyond academic performance, she has received numerous accolades from her teachers and peers, and is president of the NHS in good standing. Beyond academics she's a creative person who's always learning and mastering a new craft, and regarded by her family as kind and thoughtful.

Camryn has unfortunately dealt with chronic pain as a result of ovarian cysts. She has undergone numerous surgical procedures and dealt with a level of chronic pain that has inhibited her quality of life. Without these procedures and their required recovery times, her attendance would be WELL within the threshold for the A+ program at her school. Not only does she miss out on the senior trip, but this also means that Camryn is denied a scholarship due to her absences being excused.

By United States federal law, "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more life activities" counts as a disability under the American Disabilities Act. As such, it is my understanding that Camryn has a federally protected right to reasonable accommodations. This should extend to her academic standing and excused absences, particularly given her class performance despite absences caused by medical procedures and recovery.

Would the school system refuse to accept absences if she was an athlete who tore her ACL during a sponsored event? Or if she became wheelchair-bound as a result of an accident? I do not believe so. To not excuse her absences is an egregious error and a blatant refusal to accommodate her specific needs. It deprives her of an academic scholarship that she has, in many people's view, she has rightfully earned and then some. It also goes against the school's own criteria for excusing absences due to her documented medical history and doctor's notes. This is perplexing and I cannot think of a reasonable explanation for her absences to not be excused. I thus implore the school system to consider her case and excuse her absences so that she can experience a milestone event with her peers.

Ricardo Mazariegos (Apex, 2023-01-20)

#765

I believe she should be able to participate in all school related activities due to her medical issues.
She was sick and all these medical issue is out of her control.

Peggy Richardson (Albany, 2023-01-20)

#766

Because someone who has medical problems and has done everything with keeping grades up should not be punished

Samantha Bommer (Columbia, 2023-01-20)

#767

I went to West Nodaway and I hope everything goes the way she wants it to. I hope Cami heals!

Jaden Elm (Mansfield, 2023-01-20)

#769

I am signing this because you are treating this student and family unfairly. “with God all things are possible “ Matthew 19:26
Are there any Christians at this school have none of them ever endured any hardships? Have a ❤️

Judy Howard (Craig, 2023-01-20)

#770

This cause is totally worth it and needs to be talked about more!!

Ellen Hayden (Bolckow, 2023-01-20)

#773

Medical issues are hard enough. I can't imagine all the things to have to worry about this girl wants to go to school. She didn't chose to get sick.

Tina Rivas (Hesperia, 2023-01-20)

#776

Camryn is an amazing person, a great student and leader, as well as a strong, empathetic human who has been through a lot. If Camryn had the choice, I know she would have chosen to attend to school than go through MULTIPLE surgeries, and deal with a list of health conditions. She is as deserving as other students to continue to be part of the A+ Program and be part of the senior trip. Camryn should not be punished and left out of these programs/activities for having ongoing health conditions that impact attendance. This is ridiculous and putting additional stress and pressure on a family and parents that have been through so much already. The Brady's love their children dearly but are not afraid to keep them accountable if the situation warrants it. Being absent due to health conditions is out of Camryn's control.

Gabbi Day (Kansas City , 2023-01-20)

#777

I believe that Camryn has been an influential part to West Nodaway. Along with her parents playing a significant part in supporting West Nodaway and all of its Academic achievements, I support Camryn in receiving A+ recognition and allowing her to go on Senior trip.

Deanne Cordell (Skidmore, 2023-01-20)

#779

She should ot be penalized for health reasons and doctors orders.

Danielle Johnson (Maryville , 2023-01-20)

#780

I don't feel shes being treated fairly she cant help she has health issues Looks like she’s a good student the school or school board didn’t even care what the doctors note said. My daughter had health issues in high school they were very understanding. Do the right thing!!!

Karen Ault (Stanberry, 2023-01-20)

#782

The world must have more empathy for people and their situations.

Taylor Allee (Kansas City , 2023-01-20)

#783

I’m signing because this is punishment for illness

Kelsey Price (Bedford, 2023-01-20)

#784

She should be allowed to go on a fun trip to Disney World in Florida, despite her many medical issues.

MJ Rodriguez (Albany, 2023-01-20)

#785

She should be excused for medical reasons. Do the right thing.

Roberta Wallace (Gentry, 2023-01-20)

#786

I am a teacher, but had health problems in College and had a couple of wonderful professors who helped me pass two classes even though I had a lot of absence. She has earned this trip!!! Teach her classmates what real endurance is!

Jeanne Pulver (Omaha, 2023-01-20)

#787

I feel for this girl! She worked hard regardless of her medical struggles. Enough had been taken from her and she deserves this.

Sydney Morris (Guthrie Center , 2023-01-20)

#789

She missed because of medical that is NOT her choice. Plus it's her senior year give GRACE

Misha Dupree (Higginsville, 2023-01-20)

#790

I believe this girl has kept up her grades should be able to go on senior trip. The young lady has been through enough give her the senior trip that is once in a life time.

#791

This is my niece’s niece.

Greta Nelson (Crescent, 2023-01-20)

#792

I believe e that this is ridiculous! She had medical issues and should be excused!

Brandi Abbott (Savannah, 2023-01-20)

#793

With todays technology there is no way she would be behind in school. If you shut down school for Covid and let all the kids move forward, than she should be allowed to participate since it was medical related.

Steve Adams (Albany, 2023-01-20)

#794

This poor girl has been through so much ALL while keeping her grades up and participating in extracurricular activities…. It’s not right to deny this young lady her one and only senior trip with her classmates. She absolutely should be able to go and stay in the A+ program.

Maggie Jo (Braddyville, 2023-01-20)

#797

This is unjust, and this student deserves accommodations, and support for all she’s been through. Same on the new administration who took this away from her.

Lisa Leriche Schwandt (Guthrie Center, 2023-01-21)

#799

The board needs to convene and do the right thing.
