Ask the West Nodaway R-1 Board of Education to grant Camryn Brady's appeals to remain in the A+ Program and go on senior trip.

Comments

#1001

I graduated from Nodaway-Holt and am now a nurse. Denying this young lady her senior trip has no value and is punitive for her being ill. With all of the medical bills, the A+ program is crucial to her ability to continue her education. She has clearly met all work and grade requirements as illustrated by her CV. I have seen many students with illnesses excel and thrive with support-- be that support. Step forward and lift up your student.

Angela Baxter (Kansas city, 2023-01-21)

#1002

She has medical documentation supporting her absences..through all of this she remains keeping up her grades, and being active in school..doing her best!

Josh Sharp (Graham , 2023-01-21)

#1003

I'm signing because this young lady deserves to have the senior year (and college scholarship) she has earned. She has proven to be a wonderful student and member of her senior class - seat time does not equate to quality human being.

Becky Dunnell (St. Louis, 2023-01-21)

#1005

Camryn deserves to go on her trip and her A+ award!

Erika Yocom (Maryville, 2023-01-21)

#1006

Medical absences are excused absences. As humans we need to treat one another with empathy and respect. Each situation needs to be looked at as if with compassion.

Holly Clement Cronk (Maryville, 2023-01-21)

#1007

I'm signing because Cami is an excellent student and denying her this will be something she, and all who care about her and her family, will always remember. It will be a scare on West Nodaway.

Aileen Brady (Onaha, 2023-01-21)

#1008

The school needs to make the right choice and quit being selfish

Tristen Emery (Hopkins, 2023-01-21)

#1009

Extenuating circumstances. If someone is able to still be an exceptional student despite unfortunate health issues, this should be regarded.

Deanna Scroggie (Pickering , 2023-01-21)

#1011

No school officials should take any school opportunities away from any child with excused absences.

Kristy Burns (Gallatin, 2023-01-21)

#1014

This is a no brainer… school district is unreasonable.

Denise Gnefkow (Blue Springs , 2023-01-21)

#1015

I don’t agree with the way Camryn has been treated by the school system

Zachary Poling (King City, 2023-01-21)

#1016

I feel the school is being unfair and there should be exceptions in medical cases such as this.

Amber Wahlgren (St Joseph, 2023-01-21)

#1018

This young lady is being treated unfairly. I would like to suggest to the board to take a closer look at documentation that has been provided. Aren’t there exceptions, and if not, can’t you as members of the board make amends to your current policies?
Members of the board….would you allow your child to be treated this way?

Carolyn Hayes (Graham , 2023-01-21)

#1022

As humans each should fully understand medical hardships are outside of a person choosing to be diagnosed with what this child has experienced. She has excelled, amidst these challenges and this is the Community and more importantly leadership of School District to celebrate and support her accomplishments. Where is your true Leadership, grace and actions as if this were your child of whom you witnessed first hand their medical diagnosis, pain, surgeries, recovery and battles towards recovery. Shameful, recheck yourselves and let's get this right. There is a season for everything under heaven this is her season to celebrate.

Wanda Fankhauser (Ravenwood, 2023-01-21)

#1023

I care about this child. She deserves to be encouraged during her difficult struggles.Taking away a treasured reward is less than caring, it is brutal.

Shirley Phillips (Palm Harbor, 2023-01-22)

#1025

This is not right, she should be allowed to go on her trip and and remain in a plus.

Rick Allen (Barnard, 2023-01-22)

#1031

Her medical condition definitely warrants reconsideration.

Barb Anderson (Maryville, 2023-01-22)

#1032

Absences with medical documentation should be considered for an attendance waiver for both A plus and senior trip. The surgeries were required for her health. Support students trying for A plus.

Joni Adkins (Burlington Junction , 2023-01-22)

#1036

I went to school here 1-7th grade and I love West Nodaway this is not ok.. this needs to be fixed

Andrea Schaffer (Tabor, 2023-01-22)

#1038

Camryn is being discriminated against in this unusual situation with school personnel and her medical conditions. Public schools are to build our young people up. You have a bright student let her shine!

Debby Talbott (Graham , 2023-01-22)

#1041

I'm signing this because I know the difference between right and wrong. There is no logical reason to deny a child something due to illness. This young lady has already shown more heart and drive than most people do...and to be denied certain things because she missed some school due to surgical procedures, and to still maintain her grades, other extra-curricular and responsibilities at such a high level is more than commendable. It should be praised. She is the example we want our children to follow. Times can get hard. You don't get to quit, unlike the district leadership did on a student. The district should do what is best for the student and they failed....unlike the student.

Jevon Farley (Savannah, 2023-01-22)

#1043

I'm signing because legally this is discrimination of someone with medical issues which equal a disability.

Tausha Taylor (Country Club, 2023-01-22)

#1044

She is amazing!

Beth Kramer (Lincoln, 2023-01-22)

#1048

I believe Camryn should be allowed to remain in the A+ program and go on her senior trip.

Toia Thompson (Holt, 2023-01-22)

#1050

Because she should not be punished for having medical issues!!!!

Shannon Chastain (Rock Port, MO, 2023-01-22)

#1054

She deserves to be apart of the A+ program, and to go on the senior trip, the abscences definitely need to be excused

Matthew Hance (Rock Port, 2023-01-22)

#1058

Medical issues should not be held against a student.

Shannon Wilson (Chicago, 2023-01-22)

#1059

West nodaway is the worst about caring about their students, and honestly this whole policy needs changed because it is not right or fair. Mitch and the whole board needs to have some sympathy. They weren’t going to allow me to go and I was only their for half a year, and was on their honor roll. They honestly ruin the whole high school experience when forcing children to appeal for something they’ve been looking their whole high school career for.

Crystal Deason (Dothan, 2023-01-22)

#1060

How can medical issues not be excused? Ridiculous!

Kimberly Henggeler (Barnard, 2023-01-22)

#1061

She shouldn’t be punished for this due to health reasons. Sue isn’t choosing to be sick! She’s literally got an excuse. She’s not just skipping school! Good lord have some compassion for what this girl has been through.

Alisha Dillivan (Albany, 2023-01-22)

#1062

The school administration needs to do the right thing. The sensible thing. The human compassion is severely lacking in a correct and proper case as presented.

James Runde (Parnell, 2023-01-22)

#1064

She deserves all the honors she has worked so hard for!

Kari Kraus (Pleasant Prairie, 2023-01-22)

#1066

It’s not right what the school has done

Laura Purcell (Burlington Junction, 2023-01-22)

#1067

This wrong needs to be corrected. Shame on the West Nodaway School district, what a horrible incident. You pull this crap on a good student yet you left trouble makers/slackers fly by with out a care in the world. Do the right thing and right this wrong.

Tracey Johnston (Parnell, 2023-01-22)

#1069

This young lady has been through enough physical and mental anguish. She has had to deal with more mental & physical pain than any one person should have to. The school needs to stop punishing kids for things that are out of their control. This child should have all the absenses excused as they are medically necessary to remain alive.
The board needs to rethink the policy and step out of the stone age.

Terri Wolfe (Baltimore, 2023-01-22)

#1070

I’m signing becoase no student should be punished for missing school for obvious medical reasons. Especially when they are an exemplary student

Lindsey Schaefer (Ames, 2023-01-22)

#1071

She deserves these things!

Shelby Gilliland (Hopkins, 2023-01-22)

#1073

This is a joke. If this was my child I would be absolutely disappointed in the school. How is it even possible to treat a child this way when suffering from things out of her control when high school is hard enough on a child, especially young females. Do better.

Jordan Still (Burlington Junction , 2023-01-22)

#1074

Students should bot be penalized for medical conditions conditions beyond their control nor for the resultant absences needed to ensure proper treatment and recuperative time. Speaking as both a registered nurse and a fellow sufferer of PCOS, I am urging the West Nodaway R-1 Board of Education to reconsider its decision and allow Camryn to remain in the A+ program.

Susan Stuermer (Milwaukee, 2023-01-22)

#1075

Camryn obviously is a good student. She maintains good grades, fulfills the obligations required by student organizations, and is eager to serve as a leader in the organizations she is involved in. She has earned the respect of her teachers, something that should not be overlooked.
To punish anyone for having health issues is reprehensible, especially a student that has given so much to the school events she participates in. Think about the message that your actions will send and do right by this girl.

Linda Parker (Skidmore, 2023-01-22)

#1078

I attended West Nodaway R1 and I believe they need to do the right thing.

Krisa Schaplowsky (Coffeyville , 2023-01-22)

#1079

This young lady clearly deserves to be in A+

Stephanie Yount (Maryville, 2023-01-22)

#1080

She deserves to have her Senior Trip & A Plus! My gosh this poor girl has had four surgeries, pain and suffering! She still remained on honor roll and all her other activities.

Jennifer Brock (Hale, 2023-01-22)

#1082

This is ridiculous!

Tracy Wright (St Joseph , 2023-01-22)

#1084

After reading the account, and after having Cami in a night class for 6 weeks, I feel that this is extremely punitive. She has been able to complete homework and retain class duties through very difficult personal times, and it appears to not be “enough.” I sincerely hope people will take a second look at what she’s been able to accomplish, despite the roadblocks that have been in her way.

Stacey Calfee (Maryville , 2023-01-22)

#1085

To not excuse a student when medically necessary is ridiculous

Dawn Chaney (Grant City , 2023-01-22)

#1086

I’m not sure what West Nodaway is trying to prove but I guarantee compassion is not in the top 10 actions. Cami has always been a model student. Her health scenarios are significant and yet she remained a top notch student. Her strength and perseverance should be noticed and commended, not ignored or tore down.

Megan Calfee (Maryville, 2023-01-22)

#1087

This is complete bull crap. Do better!

Makinna Emery (Hopkins, 2023-01-22)

#1088

This girl has worked hard to get to where she is! She deserves to be rewarded just like anyone else!

Katie Carter (Hopkins, 2023-01-22)

#1089

a hardworking and hard fighting child should not be punished because an administrator feels big for blindly enforcing rules.

Mason Dredge (Kansas City, 2023-01-22)

#1091

It is the right just thing to do.

Grant Neumann (St. Joseph , 2023-01-22)

#1093

You’re being unfair to this student

Nancy Meyer (Grant City, 2023-01-22)

#1094

Cami deserves justice, and the current decision by the school board sets an extremely problematic precedent for future students.

Alexis Simmerman (Stanberry, 2023-01-22)

#1095

I had similar experience with chronic illness in high school. Thankfully my appeal was granted allowing me to continue my education and become a nurse. I didn’t receive a diagnosis and effective treatment until I was married. This child should not be penalized for something out of her control!

Raelynn McElroy (Country Club, 2023-01-22)

#1096

Kids with medical issues should not be punished for missing school of their work is completed.

Jessica Davenport (Higginsville, 2023-01-22)

#1098

I also have children that had medical issues and I am so glad my school worked with them. My daughter also graduated as valedictorian. Shame on these board members.

Casey Pries (Tabor, 2023-01-22)

#1100

This student has the right to not be punished for medical conditions that are out of her control. She was not missing for family vacations. She had serious medical conditions that had to be taken care of. She has obviously kept up on her work or she would not be holding honors positions.

Jessica Zielinski (Maitland, 2023-01-22)

#1101

I'm signing because she should be allowed to go on her senior trip. It's not her fault she was sick. She kept her school work up and stayed on honor roll. I'm proud of her.

Cathy Mather (Burlington Jct, 2023-01-22)

#1103

She deserves to go on trip and the school board needs to be disbanded and reorganized

Chandler Robinson (Weatherford , 2023-01-22)

#1104

I am signing this because I am an educator and a mother. I see no reason why someone in such good standing should be held back by what she could not control in her body and has verified with doctors and documentation. For a student to keep up so well with all this going on is a blessing and should be celebrated not restricted. I wish all my students had this kind of dedication and despite her circumstances, she persevered! This is NOT someone trying to just slide by or come up with excuses. She had legitimate reasons for missing school and she has suffered enough. Let her be a kid and have her best life!

Shawna Macrander (Saint Joseph, 2023-01-22)

#1107

I had to fight Savannah HS, because my daughter had a health emergency her senior year and nearly didn't get to walk. We had to prove all her absences were medically related. Student's shouldn't have to deal with this. They should an FMLA program too.

Dana Shipps (St Joseph, 2023-01-22)

#1108

I think it is unfair to punish students for circumstances out of their control. I think it is especially frustrating in this specific case because this student has still been extremely successful despite all of the trials that they have been through in their high school years.

Abbie Adkins (St. Joseph, 2023-01-22)

#1109

This girls needs a chance!

Natalie Atkins (King City, 2023-01-22)

#1111

Everybody deserves a chance to enjoy life and the time spent in high school. We only live once. Life is hard, why make it harder than it needs to be.

Tonya Willson (Barnard, 2023-01-22)

#1113

This student has done everything asked of her. This school district needs to do the ethical thing and allow her to attend her senior trip and partake in A+.

Angela Williams (Kansas City, 2023-01-22)

#1115

My daughter had this happen to her also, but fortunately she was able to keep the A+ program.

Cali Punzo (De Kalb, 2023-01-22)

#1117

It’s beyond her control to have missed school. After everything she works hard to keep her grades up. She should be allowed to go on her senior trip & participate in any activities she wishes to.

Joy Downing (Maryville, 2023-01-22)

#1118

I believe the circumstances are exceptional and should be granted Approved. Camryn has always been an excellent student and deserves every opportunity West Nodaway can provide!

Lisa Linville (Burlington Junction, 2023-01-22)

#1119

This is clearly an issue that needs to be righted!

Megan Ragan (Saint Joseph, 2023-01-22)

#1121

She deserves to stay on it’s not her fault she had to have medical treatment and that shouldn’t not be any consequences for that.

Wayne Fowler (Oak grove, 2023-01-22)

#1123

The reasons to be excused are beyond valid and her achievements are absolutely inline with being a proactive, hardworking A+ student. She is undoubtedly worthy of the A+ benefits. To deny her this is an injustice that must be corrected.

Andrew Lewis (Springfield, 2023-01-22)

#1125

I'm signing because I was a child with high health needs. I would love for her to receive her A+ benefits and no one should be punched for health.

Brianna Smith (Saint Joseph , 2023-01-22)

#1126

No one’s medical issues should prevent them from participating in school activities. These medical issues are beyond her control

Julie Woods (Platte city , 2023-01-22)

#1127

I'm signing because I feel like she is being treated unfairly. Her absences were out of her control & due to health conditions.

April Graham (Maryville , 2023-01-22)

#1132

You deserve respect sweetheart this is so heartbreaking.

Mary Ann Thornton (Braddyville , 2023-01-22)

#1133

With her scholastic accomplishments and activities in school, she definitely should not be excluded from the A+ Program and senior trip. She has demonstrated her willingness and ability to succeed in her life goals throughout difficult situations.
Question: If a student had Covid and continued to have issues with recurrence of associated health issues and was hospitalized again and again and unable to be physically present at school, would they suffer the same exclusion? Equal doesn’t always mean fair. Appreciate your reconsideration of this concern.

Sharon Millard (St Joseph, MO, 2023-01-22)

#1141

It is very unfair to this young lady, who has obviously worked very hard in her school career, to be punished for circumstances outside of her control.

Ashley Green (Hermann, 2023-01-22)

#1142

Really sounds like she has been thru enough & should not be penalized for needing surgery.

Rochelle Greenwood (St Joseph, 2023-01-22)

#1143

Because this girl should be allowed to go on the senior trip based on the facts presented.

Dan Vietze (Tarkio, 2023-01-23)

#1145

Through no fault of her own, Camryn Brady has dealt with more health issues than most people their entire lives. She has EARNED admittance in the A+ Scholarship program and inclusion in her senior trip. The West Nodaway Board of Education must do the compassionate thing and allow Camryn to participate in what she's rightfully earned. If not, this will be a blight on the West Nodaway administration's report card.

Jan McMichael (St. Louis, 2023-01-23)

#1146

I believe no student should be punished for a health concern that would outside their control. Especially a student that kept her grades up.

Lindsey Budd (Saint Joseph, 2023-01-23)

#1147

I'm signing because everyone deserves a chance to be heard. Sometimes it's not just black or white... It is acceptable to be grey.

Sally Vietze (Tarkio, 2023-01-23)

#1148

She should not be penalized for absences due to medical reasons. This shouldn’t even be a topic that needs debating. Especially if since she kept up with her grades and made up all the work. Schools are meant to help and teach students. In no way does this help this student and only teaches them that their school doesn’t care about their students. Absences should be determined case by case and take into account past performance as well as performance while being absent.

Leslie Birkenholz (Hopkins , 2023-01-23)

#1153

I feel that she did more than a lot of students do all of their high school career with all of this pain going on. How much she had to go through and is still going through as a high school student!? Beats me! I believe that she has Gina above and beyond and most people would have just given up! She has so much dedication not only to the program but to what appears to be to the school and other programs as well

Jenna Smith (Sheridan, 2023-01-23)

#1157

I don't think she should be punished for missing school due to medical issues requiring surgeries. Not only has she faced a lot in her young life, but to take away a class trip and scholarship opportunities is cruel. Please re-consider.

Amy Pearsall (Weymouth, 2023-01-23)

#1160

I believe that absences out of Camryn's control should not penalized her from the A+ program or her senior trip.

Sheri Yuille (Savannah, 2023-01-23)

#1162

This is terrible. She has worked so hard and deserves better.

Cole Schelling (St. Louis, 2023-01-23)

#1163

she doesnt deserve to be penalized for having to go through a necessary medical procedure.

sydney bryant (mckinleyville , 2023-01-23)

#1166

This needs to be addressed.

Aiden Ortiz (Kenosha, 2023-01-23)

#1168

Cami deserves all the support and resources in the world. Not letting her on her senior trip and not including her in the A+ program like she deserves is a massive injustice. Justice for Camryn 🫶

Ryn Zaremba (Minneapolis, 2023-01-23)

#1174

To support and help!

Kathren Kiryukhina (Blaine , 2023-01-23)

#1176

Punishment doesn’t seem to fit the crime. Even if the explanation given was even 40% misleading to foster favor to their side of things it makes no sense that a institution meant to launch kids off into life the best way possible would punish in a way that would do the opposite and hold them back in any way. There’s no reason to believe that it was meant to be misleading at all either. I’m just playing devils advocate to make the point more clear. It sounds ridiculous overall and the adults in the situation need to take a good look inside and ask what the real motives for all this is. Idk the people involved but if the “grown ups” involved can’t see what they’re doing here isn’t right then maybe something else is going on. Something shady most likely. I know I had my own troubles with administration at West Nodaway when I went there. Shame to hear not much has changed. They need to quit nitpicking about shit that doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully they are moved to change their decision. This is why power structures are tricky and more trouble than they’re worth.

Wade Whittington (Maryville, 2023-01-23)

#1180

I never celebrated my senior year because of covid. I believe anyone who worked as hard as hard as Camryn not just their academics but also recovering from a procedure they should be able to get to celebrate themselves.

Jessica Hutchinson (New Lenox , 2023-01-23)

#1184

She deserves it

Gimmick M (Bakersfield , 2023-01-23)

#1185

I think it’s completely uncalled for that camryn doesn’t get to be apart of the a+ club or go on the senior trip. The surgery and recovery time she had was needed, and even despite all the time missed she caught up on all her school work. those are extenuating circumstances that should be taken into account when deciding to, ruin a bright, young, goal oriented student’s life and motivation. (Because I’m sure that’s how she feels after doing nothing wrong) Please teach an example of fairness, kindness, and decency in these times where no one feels community or care enough.

Adira Burton (Richardson , 2023-01-23)

#1187

I to have faced problems with attendance because of medical reasons. This shouldn't be an issue for anyone. Especially for this excellent young lady.

Zoey Rangel (Fort Worth, 2023-01-23)

#1188

I’m signing because my best friend experience this same thing and was forced to drop out of school. I don’t want it to happen again

Jasper Bowers (port richey, 2023-01-23)

School handled this situation so inappropriately disgusting. I hope Camryn gets the justice she deserves soon.
