Stop the Undemocratic Conduct in Ward 96 and Demand Transparency, Fairness, and Community Engagement
We, the undersigned residents of Ward 96 and the lawfully elected Ward Committee members, are deeply concerned about the undemocratic actions taken by the Ward Councillor. These actions have undermined transparency, excluded community voices, and led to unnecessary division in our ward. We are calling on the Speaker of the City of Tshwane to intervene urgently and restore democratic governance to Ward 96.
Key Concerns:
1. Creation of a Parallel Structure: The Ward Councillor has created a parallel structure, without consulting the lawfully elected Ward Committee members, which goes against democratic processes and disregards the role of the committee.
2. Exclusion from Project Steering Committee: A member of the parallel structure has complained about the involvement of Ward Committee members in the Project Steering Committee, undermining their legitimate role in community decision-making.
3. Unilateral Legal Action Against Ward Committee Member: The Ward Councillor has requested that the appointed Contractor apply for a court interdict against a Ward Committee member, acting without consultation or justification, and threatening the participation of elected representatives.
4. Lack of Transparency and Communication: The Ward Councillor has consistently failed to communicate with or engage the community and Ward Committee members on key matters, making decisions unilaterally.
Our Demands:
1. Immediate Intervention by the Speaker: We call for urgent action by the Speaker’s Office to address these undemocratic actions and protect the rights of the elected Ward Committee members.
2. Dissolution of the Parallel Structure: The parallel structure created by the Ward Councillor must be investigated and disbanded, as it undermines the legitimacy of elected representatives.
3. Withdrawal of the Court Interdict: We demand that the Ward Councillor immediately withdraw the legal action taken against a Ward Committee member.
4. Restore Transparent Governance: The Speaker must ensure that governance in Ward 96 is conducted transparently, with the active involvement of the Ward Committee and the community.
5. Urgent Meeting with the Speaker: We request an urgent meeting with the Speaker to address these grievances and ensure a fair and transparent governance process for Ward 96.
