URGENT: SIGN THE PETITION TO FIX LYNNWOOD ROAD!

PETITION: URGENT ACTION REQUIRED ON LYNNWOOD ROAD ROADWORKS

To: The City of Tshwane

We, the residents, business owners, and commuters of Pretoria East, urgently call on the City of Tshwane to address the unacceptable state of the roadworks on Lynnwood Road, specifically under Contract RTD 12 2022/2023 (IRPTN) BRT Line 2C between January Masilela and Simon Vermooten Roads.

This project, originally set for completion on 19 November 2024, has now been extended to 19 April 2025, yet progress appears to have stalled completely. The ongoing delays, poor site management, and lack of communication have created serious safety hazards, economic losses, and daily hardships for residents and businesses.

Key Issues:

  1. Dangerous Road Conditions & Frequent Accidents:

    • Unstable yellow barriers are filled with rocks, which cause severe damage to vehicles when struck.

    • Excavated areas are left exposed, creating major hazards for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

    • On average, 12 accidents occur per week due to the unsafe conditions.

  2. Infrastructure Damage & Service Disruptions:

    • The contractor has repeatedly damaged water pipes and fibre lines, leaving entire areas without water or internet for extended periods.

    • These disruptions affect thousands of residents, businesses, and essential services.

  3. Lack of Payment to Workers & Subcontractors:

    • Despite receiving payments from the City of Tshwane, the main contractor has failed to pay its employees, subcontractors, and service providers.

    • This raises serious concerns about financial mismanagement and the contractor’s ability to complete the project.

  4. Lack of Transparency & Communication:

    • No clear updates have been provided to the public regarding the reasons for the delays.

    • The community has been left in the dark, with no accountability from the contractor or the City.

Our Demands:

We, the undersigned, demand that the City of Tshwane:

  1. Immediately conduct an investigation into the contractor’s financial status and ability to complete the project.

  2. Ensure payment to all workers and subcontractors so work can resume without further delay.

  3. Improve safety measures along the construction site to prevent further accidents and vehicle damage.

  4. Hold regular public updates to inform residents and businesses about the progress and expected completion timeline.

We urge the City to act now before more lives are put at risk and further damage is done to our community.

Enough is enough – we demand action!
