2016 NATIONAL PETITION TO INCREASE SOCIAL GRANTS

2016 NATIONAL PETITION TO INCREASE SOCIAL GRANTS

Approximately 17 million people rely on social grants in South Africa. Grant beneficiaries do not choose to be dependant, they are responsible and want to take care of themselves and their families. Many are forced to rely on these grants because the ANC and its destruction of the economy has resulted in 8.9 MILLION PEOPLE BEING UNEMPLOYED IN SOUTH AFRICA.

The government has increased the budget for social grants by 6.4% but it does not come close to helping the fight against poverty when inflation is expected to reach 11.6% in 2016/17. It forces the South Africans who rely on these grants to suffer as the cost of living skyrockets.

To PROTECT THE MOST VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN SOCIETY, the DA proposed pledging AN ADDITIONAL R2.2 billion to Social Development in Parliament, but the ANC rejected our proposal.
