STOP Multipurpose Community Facility in Kingsway, Dee Why

This petition is intended to STOP the building of the proposed Multi-purpose Community Facility in 36-48 Kingsway, Dee Why. The site is currently occupied by a Council car park.
On Thursday the 11th of April during the General Public Information Session they informed us of the following points:

1. The capacity of the actual car park will be increased to 400 vehicles tripling the actual number of cars. This will bring three times more traffic, pollution, and noise to the area.

2. In the same area the following developments have already been approved:

  • A block of approximately 400 new units on the corner of Fisher Rd and St David Ave (where the actual Salvation Army property is currently located);
  • Another block of about 80 units on the corner of St David Ave and Pittwater Rd (Cobalt);

These new developments, together with the proposed multi-purpose Community Facility will dramatically overload the existing infrastructure.

3. The new building will approximately be 20 meters tall. This is almost the height of a 7 storey building. No other building in the surrounding area is as tall. Such a massive structure will completely change the look of the area and it will be an eyesore.

4. A Police youth centre will be built on top of this car park. This centre will be open 7 days a week till 11pm and able to accommodate 1000 kids at any one time.

5. All trees currently in the Council Car Park will be removed (74 are already marked to be taken in the next two weeks) and even if the Council commits to replant twice as many trees, they will not be replanted in the same area as there will not be any land to plant them on.

6. Traffic lights will be installed on the intersection of Kingsway and Fisher Rd. Due to the new set of lights, street parking will no longer be available. Therefore pollution to the area will increase due to the occurrence of the "stop and go".

7. The Council does not guarantee the value of the properties in the area and does not safeguard them from the depreciation due to the achievement of such a huge structure.

For these and other reasons we think this plan needs to be reconsidered and STOPPED!

If you think that these points are reasonable and you are worried about the future of this area please sign this petition.

Thank you.
