UPDATE ON THE PETITION

Update on the petition

A lot of you have signed the petition because you felt that the quality that you can expect from the classes was not met because of the online environment.

So what have we done since the petition?

We had a meeting with the program manager of creative business to voice the concerns we all had about the increase of online classes in block c. We tried our best to be a voice for everyone that signed the petition and include the reasons that where stated by you all when signing the petition.

So what did we discuss in the meeting?

First off we would like to say that we where very happy to see that our concerns where taken seriously and that we got the chance to explain why we feel the way we do and also suggest ideas on how to solve the problem. And the program manager has shared her view on the matter and the logistics behind it all. And of course we had questions for her as well. In the meeting we collaborated in defining the problem and finding solutions.

So why did we get this much online classes in block C?

There are two reasons for this one being that for some electives and classes there where competencies that regarded remote working/ collaborating in a online environment. The second being the public transport strikes that resulted in the few offline classes that we had to also be online, this is of course something that the course organisation can’t control or solve for us.

Now the most important question what is the solution?

So when we had the meeting the schedule for block D was just out. And we where very happy to see that the problem for the most part is solved because there is only one elective that is online which is content marketing. Because the block would start in a week from our meeting it was not possible to also change that class to a offline setting, also because the course has the online/ remote work competence. We did voice our concerns about these competences because we personally don’t see how the competence is helping us because by now we all know how to work online so its not something we need to learn. She explained that changing these competences is highly complicated besides the point that online work is more common now so they have a obligation to make sure their students are ready for this when starting their careers as a creative professional.

We did come to an agreement that there should never be more then 20% online classes and always be a minimum of 80% offline classes, meaning if you have for example 10 classes a week you can’t have more than 2 of them online.

We where able to show the program that online is not a solution for students and that they need to  make sure that it never happens again like it did in block c. Besides that they will be looking at how they can make sure that in other years this also will not happen again. We really feel that CB listened to the concerns of their students and really wants to help and improve based on this. We think that the outcome of this petition and meeting was very positive and we hope you feel the same :)

If you every have a problem or idea don’t hesitate in contacting the CB Organization!

CB itself will also release a statement that has a more in-depth explanation about the reasoning behind the online classes and how we go from here.

Lastly we like to thank everyone for their suggestion, input and signing the petition without you we would not have been able to do this!

Kind regards,

The petition team <3
