RZM2022-00039 DEFEATED 3.28.23

WE_WON_SIGN_3.29_.23_.jpgGood morning everyone!  WE WON A DENIAL WITH A 4-1 VOTE.  We had 206 signatures on our petition when I closed it this morning.  We had 192 when I printed it for the meeting.  The community spoke and the BOC listened!  They listened to us and to their Planning Commission.  Thanks so much to everyone that spread the word in your community, that signed and got others to sign, that wrote letters and to those that came to the meeting last night.  We had about 20-25 (if anyone has a count, please let me know) in attendance and I TRULY believe that all of the community involvement made an impression.  Our coalition is now 15 neighborhoods strong.  The applicant has two weeks to appeal, so, there maybe more work to do but for right now---WE WON!!!

STOP HIGH DENSITY IN HOG MOUNTAIN Hi, neighbors- If we have any chance of stopping this rezoning – we’ve got to make some noise before the hearing!  Our next meeting will be Board of Commissioners March 28th. We have until then to send new letters of opposition, to find ways to get signatures on our NEW petition and ways to increase participation in this effort.  The investor has submitted several site plans. The last plan is a total of 93 units with nearly one-half of them on Parcel 1 directly abutting Oak Wind.  This high-density project is not a good fit for this property or this intersection.

Emails should have Case# RZM2022-00039 in the subject line. Please be polite and concise – and please SEND NOW! Even if you already sent letters, the BOC needs to hear from us. You can send the same email to each commissioner.

WHY REZONING THIS CORNER WOULD BE A BAD DECISION: TRAFFIC/SAFETY:  From this intersection to Ft. Daniel Elem, 4/10 of a mile, there are 6 entrances onto Auburn Rd/Hwy 324.  This project would add a 7 th and about 400 daily car trips.  NO traffic study was conducted for this application, but we do know that in the past 13 months 3 fatalities and 164 accidents have happened from the intersection to Old Fountain Rd. ZONING:  These three parcels are currently zoned R-200 & C-1.  Going from R-200 to R-TH would greatly increase density.  Because of unbuildable land, the developer would place the bulk of the units directly against R-100 subdivisions.  This is rezoning from a similar use to a dissimilar use-or spot zoning.  According to the Planning Dept Agenda package (page 6, item C) this property has reasonable economic use as currently zonedEven if you wrote in the Fall, please let them hear from you NOW.  Newly elected Commissioner Holtkamp is not aware of how many of us are against this rezoning.  This is not the place for a high-density development. Please sign our NEW petition even if you already signed our old petition. Scan the QR code below to sign or follow the link.  Spread the word!  Ask others to write BOC and sign our petition.  Your voice matters--Let them hear from you!                                                                     https://www.petitions.net/stop_rzm2022-00039_stop_high_density_in_hog_mountain

Hi, You recently signed a petition opposing RZM2022-00039 -- the request to rezone 18 acres at the corner of Hwy 324 & Hwy 124 -- from RA-200 & C-1 to all R-TH or townhomes.  This multifamily high-density complex would directly abut two single-family residence subdivisions and be located at the dangerously overburdened intersection of the two state highways.  I am very appreciative of your signing our petition.  If you haven’t already, please send the Board of Commissioners an email expressing your opposition to this rezoning request. I’ve attached a flyer that has all five BOC email addresses and other information. You can send the same email to all five BOC members, but it is important to email all five of them, we need a majority vote of at least 3-2 to win a denial.   I’ve been told that when BOC members receive emails, they pay attention, and we need their attention. The second way we could influence their decision would be to attend the meeting at     7 pm Tuesday, March 28.   The more folks we have in opposition at the meeting, the bigger an impression it will make. We have very important points to make at the meeting, and if we have folks backing us up we just might get a decision that will benefit all of us. Thank you for signing our petition, and if you can help in these other ways, we certainly appreciate that too,
