Fellow supporters: Tomorrow night is the night! Please plan to come to the MVWSD Board Meeting tomorrow, Thursday April 17, arrive by 7:40pm. The meeting is held in the District Board Room at 750-A San Pierre Way. Look for our sign.

If you haven't done so already, please rsvp here bit.ly/whisman-rsvp so we can track who's coming. Bring a family member, friend, neighbor... the more the better. We need to fill the room to show we are a big part of this city that needs to be heard and supported.

Thank you and hope to see you there!

Important Whisman Meeting next Thurs (4/17)

2014-04-10 17:09:33

Thursday, April 17 MVWSD Board Meeting: Re-opening Whisman area school

The School District has given us a time slot on next week's Board Meeting agenda to present our need for a Whisman area school. We need to show support in numbers of attendees to this meeting to prove to the board that there are enough people in this Whisman area to support re-opening a school here. The leaders of the Whisman area have been creating a presentation to deliver at this meeting. Please come to show your support, hear from the board and voice your concerns.

PLEASE--Attend this meeting--bring your kids, the family. Fill the board room with concerned citizens of our under-served community. Even if you don't have kids, if you're a homeowner, this affects you too.

DATE: Thursday, April 17, 7:30pm
LOCATION: MVWSD Board Room, 750-A San Pierre Way
RSVP: bit.ly/whisman-rsvp Please let us know you'll be attending at this link

Note: we tried to get the meeting in our neighborhood but the board refused our request saying we couldn't prove we'd have enough attendance. Let's prove them wrong by FILLING their board room with supporters of our neighborhood!

This meeting is our chance to show the School District we want our school. Please, help make it happen by showing up. Recently when the school district announced moving the Dual Immersion Program from Castro School to Slater School, the families came together in droves to protest and their sheer numbers of support changed the districts mind in one day! We can do the same, but it takes people. If we have a poor showing, the Board will not take us seriously. Our goal is to have 100 people attend. Mark your calendar and we'll see you there!

thank you,
Jessica Gandhi

Save the Date: MVWSD Board Meeting April 17

2014-03-21 00:00:20

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! The leaders of the Whisman area neighborhood associations have been given the green light to be included on the April 17th MVWSD Board Meeting agenda to present the case for re-opening a neighborhood school for the Whisman area.

COME TO THE MEETING ON APRIL 17TH! Voice your support and show the school board that there are many families out there that would like to have a neighborhood school. We especially need the support from families with young children or are just looking to start a family. This demographic is who the district is asking to hear from on this issue. Support in numbers will truly make a difference.
More details on time/location will be provided when available.

SEND A LETTER TO THE SCHOOL BOARD! If you are not able to make the April 17th date but would like to voice your support, please send a letter to trustees@mvwsd.org at any time. Actually, even if you can make the April 17th date, letters to the board with the reasons you'd like a neighborhood school would be appreciated.

SPREAD THE WORD! If you belong to a local preschool or have other neighbors and friends who should be aware of this, please spread the word. The more people we can get involved, the more likely we will be able to make a difference.

Thank you and please contact me if you have questions or can confirm that you'll be there to support.

President, North Whisman Neighborhood Association

PS: For anyone that can make it, there is also a board meeting being held tonight (3/20). Public comments may be made during the open session which starts at 7pm. We welcome anyone that can make it to get up and speak to the board during this open comment period to say why you want Whisman School re-opened. Thank you!

Next School Board Meeting this Thursday, Mar 6

2014-03-04 19:56:50

Please attend this Thursday's School Board Meeting at the District Office (750-A San Pierre Way) at 7pm during the Open Comment Section to voice your opinion on re-opening Whisman School. The more we continue to personally address the board and support this issue, the more they have to consider the option.

Important to note:

1) YOUNG FAMILIES NEED TO SPEAK OUT: The board wants to hear from families with young children (or even planning for children) that will be entering elementary school in the future. These are the people they feel will attend Whisman so if they don't hear from them, they feel nobody is interested. PLEASE spread the word in your preschools, at the park, to neighbors... we need more voices from this demographic to be taken seriously!

2) USE MEASURE G FUNDS: Insist that Whisman School be part of the Measure G fund facilities improvement plan. Whisman School missed out on the last round of bond funding for school improvements and if we miss out again, this school will continue to degrade and devalue this neighborhood (not to mention not be available for our children). Oh, and don't forget, we're paying for it with our property taxes already.

Thank you for your time and support.

Spread the word for Whisman School

2014-02-12 04:36:56

It's great to see so much support in our neighborhood for the re-opening of Whisman School. This petition has been forwarded to the MVWSD Board of Trustees so they are aware we are gaining support. Also at last week's board meeting we announced the petition numbers and read some of the comments so the board can hear what people are saying.

Thank you to everyone who has signed. What would be great is if you could forward the link to your friends and neighbors in Mountain View to help grow the number of supporters.

By showing support in a large way, we have the power for change.

Thank you for your help!
