Call for Accountability: Petition Against Wrongdoing Within the Department of Social Development (Western Cape)

We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Department of Social Development of the Western Cape to address the grievous injustices perpetrated against a Visually Impaired Social Worker on the 18th of October 2023.

The Visually Impaired Social Worker courageously brought forth concerns regarding potential fraud activities at a Non-Profit Organization. This was done in accordance with the Non-Profit Organisation Act, 71 of 1997. The concerns were brought to the attention of the Department of Social Development of the Western Cape. Despite this act of integrity, throughout the year of 2023, salaries owed to the Visually Impaired Social Worker by the Department of Social Development of the Western Cape were withheld by the Non-Profit Organization to pay other liabilities.

On the 20th of February 2024, it came to light that Ncikazi Nyoka, a Social Work Policy Developer, leaked the identity of the Visually Impaired Social Worker. Furthermore, attempts were made to cover up this breach of confidentiality by her Supervisor, Phathiswa Dyabhaza. As a result of this breach, the Visually Impaired Social Worker was unjustly dismissed from his place of employment, leading to severe repercussions and undue stress not only for the Visually Impaired Social Worker but also for his family who experiences the same eye condition.

Despite these egregious actions, the Chief Director of Children, Families, and Vulnerable Groups, Charles Jordan, and the Director of Vulnerable Groups, Patiswa Momoza, have failed to display empathy and take appropriate action to support and assist the Visually Impaired Social Worker during this difficult time.

We believe that speaking up and holding individuals and institutions accountable for their wrongdoing is crucial for maintaining justice, integrity, and progress in society. By using our collective voices to demand accountability, we can effect positive change, deter future misconduct, and promote a culture of accountability and responsibility.

Therefore, we demand the resignation of Ncikazi Nyoka, Phathiswa Dyabhaza, Charles Jordan, and Patiswa Momoza from their positions within the Department of Social Development of the Western Cape with immediate effect. Their failure to uphold the principles of justice, integrity, and confidentiality has caused irreparable harm and undermined trust in the Department.

Securing 10,000 signatures for this petition is crucial to demonstrate the widespread outrage and demand for accountability regarding the injustices faced by the Visually Impaired Social Worker.

Strength in Numbers: A petition with 10,000 signatures carries significant weight and demonstrates the magnitude of public concern. It sends a clear message to decision-makers that this issue cannot be ignored or swept under the rug.

Promotion of Accountability: Holding individuals and institutions accountable for their actions is crucial for maintaining trust in the social welfare system. 10,000 signatures demonstrate the public's commitment to upholding principles of transparency, integrity, and fairness.

We call upon all individuals who stand for justice and fairness to join us in signing this petition in support of the Visually Impaired Social Worker and in condemnation of the actions of those responsible for this grave injustice.images_(1)16.png
