Changes in the Grading Scale for Verbanzsky Chem

The most important aspect of school is learning, so a grading scale should do it's best to promote and encourage participation in class discussions and homework/classwork. The sophmore students in Mrs. Verbanzsky's chemistry class believe that this isn't the case in her grading scale. I would like to make a change and am giving you the oppurtunity to express your opinion and help Mrs. Verbanzsky see the detrimental harm the grading scale is enflicting on her sophmores. The 90% tests and 10% homework is extrmely difficult for students because it discourages learning and partcipating in schoolwork/classwork, reduces motivation to try hard in the class, puts a lot of stress on test scores, forces many students to repetively go into the classroom during academy times and re-take tests, and overall hurts student's grades in the class. Although the students appreciate the chances given for retakes and Mrs. Verbanzsky's effort in helping students see their mistakes, the overemphasis on assesments in the gradebook lessens the learning quality and stresses the outcome of the test. This can be overwhelming for students and guide them towards a "I may as well not even try" attitude. I think everybody, including Mrs. Verbanzsky and the students, would benefit from a change in the grading scale as it would help students mentally and academically and allow students to visit other classrooms during our valuable academy time. Thank you for listening, I hope this petition can help bring a change for our students and help you voice your opinion on the subject. I would also like to say that Mrs. Verbanzsky is a wonderful and generous teacher and I do not intend to offend or disrespect her or Campolindo High School in any way, I would just like to improve student's conditions in the classroom.
