Fireworks Ban in Residential Areas!

Due to the high number of incidents regarding pets in residential areas being traumatized or lost due to the indiscriminate use of fireworks during the festive season, and other religious celebrations fireworks should be banned in residential areas.

The aim is not to deny residents the enjoyment of watching fireworks, but to limit the strain on the SPCA resources at these times, as well as protecting properties against fire hazards.

Municipalities should identify an area outside of town maybe a local rugby club, where residents can congregate and set off their fireworks. By identifying such areas that may have a social club on the premises where people can celebrate their festivities, it will also create an opportunity for the clubs to generate an income.

Based on the response to this petition we will decide if we will approach the appropriate government entities with the view to have this made law countrywide.

The legislation if passed must force the police to act against anyone that set off fireworks in a residential area without first having to receive complaints from residents.

Residents must also have the right to report any SAPS station that does not enforce the legislation to the IPCC.

Legislation must be changed where the legal age of purchase is 21 years and older and not 16 years and older.
