#651 Who Ignored the Voting Results

2011-03-04 03:59

Maybe I missed something, but it seems when a vote is taken, the item with the majority of the votes wins?!?!?! Who decided to make this change to ignore the popular schedule which a majority of parents, teachers and students want?

This needs to be corrected immediately and the schedule voted by the majority needs to be in place.

#652 Keep the Balanced Calendar!

I love it and my 3 children do too. We are devastated by the overturning of this and disappointed in the votes to overturn this by our Cobb County School Board representatives Sweeney, Angelucci, Bartlett and Stultz.

Also keep this in mind. If it were not for finals, highschoolers would most likely skip the week before the break. But most elemetary and middle schoolers will probably do just that to visit elderly relatives (I.e. Grandma).

Bartlett's Town Hall - what a joke! She wasn't willing to answer the hard questions.

What was the point of the survey, if you've already chosen for us?

Why?  Are the elderly grandparents going to be dead after Christmas?

#657 Under "discussion"

2011-03-04 06:34

Just heard that the calendar issue is now "under discussion" but FUNNY how it will be discussed with the board next week in the MORNING when the MAJORITY of parents, teachers and staff are UNAVAILABLE to question this further....FIRST ask our input...NOW "HIDE" from us!?

I believe that we should use the balanced calendar. It was originally adopted for 3 years ad I believe we should abide by that ruling.

Attention Cobb County Teachers - if any of you have been hesitant about taking a personal day to attend the School Board meeting the morning of 3/9 - let me alleviate your concerns. Our school board chair, Alison Bartlett says that it is more cost effective for the county to pay suabs than for us to accrue days. She also apparently sees NO advantage to actual teachers being in the classroom. So - save the county money and show up en masse Wed. morning!

I feel the board should give us the three years that were voted on and passed prior to the last vote.

The public support for this calendar is overwhelming. Our leaders should represent the public's decision like they were elected to do. Let's get this plan back into action!

It's sad that the clandestine, dirty deals made by politicians of no more importance than a school board member can bring about such a furor among the public. To those who voted against the Balanced Calendar in the latest vote I am ashamed that I voted for one of you. I will not make the same mistake twice.

It was put in place for 3 years. It should be followed for 3 years before being changed.

#669 Bring back the balanced calendar...

2011-03-04 18:15

The vote for the balanced calendar was completed last year and was supposed to last for three years. The Board's decision shows that they have no concern for our schools, families, students, or governing structure.

#670 Cobb Calendar - August 1st Start Date

2011-03-04 18:20

It was clear from viewing the televised Board Meeting of February 9th that this action was initiated on a personal level by a few individuals. The cost savings in utilities, as stated by Mr. Sanderson, are minimal.

The board should not change the calendar now because it was voted on by last year's board for 3 three years. Change it at the end of the 3 year period.

#674 Calendar

I understand representative government and that the board members were within their authority to change the school year. They were even within their authority to be stupid, to make the idiotic decision of asking for input when they already knew they were going to act against the will of the people. They too will understand representative government, because when their number comes up for re-election it will be clear to them who is really in charge. What it boils down to is that I sense we're all just a little fed up with being ruled, like we're all just a bunch of idiots who don't know anything and we're just supposed to lie down and let those who "know best" make our decisions for us. From the president on down - even to these 4 little board members.

#675 Keep the present school calendar

2011-03-05 00:40

As a parent of a high school student this calendar has been a great improvement over previous years as it has allowed us time to visit colleges, rest from a rigorous schedule as needed, or participate in extracurricular events the original calendar would not have allowed . We wish it had been instituted earlier!
