I think that it would make a big difference to the people in the Leith area.

Skatepark facilities in Edinburgh are severely lacking and the council should look to provide ramps, rails and ledges in every park in the city.

Because kids need to be outdoors & active. My boy loves skateparks and we have to travel up to gorgie. Why should'nt leith have one? because we hardly have anything else for our kids in Leith and the play parks are rubbish!!

Brilliant idea. Much needed outdoor space in Leith for youngsters to enjoy, be active, hang out...

Is a great idea. As it will keep young kids off the streets. And they will be all in the 1 place. & possibly stop ASBO'S in the community.

We just had a skate park built in Inverness and it's constantly buzzing with kids and adults, really good idea! Would love to come home to Edinburgh and enjoy this potential new place.

This would be massively popular. You only have to look at Saughton, which is often extremely overcrowded, to see this. There is a huge demand for these parks, not just from skaters but also BMXers, mountain bikers, inline skaters and even scooter riders.

Because Edinburgh only has one skate park and its on the other side of the city for a lot of skaters

A small corner of Leith Links would make an ideal place for a skatepark - it would be a fantastic spectator area as well as benefitting the youngsters from this area and before any so-called "Friends" of Leith Links start whining and moaning about disturbing the tranquillity of Leith Links then I remember the 1940s in Leith Links - it was an amazing hive of activity - Brass Bands in the bandstand, Cycle Speedway (with huge numbers of spectators) Punch and Judy and Kid's entertainment on Saturday mornings (loved those) then there was the sound of willow on leather at the Sunday cricket match and a lot of weird stuff up at the Duke Street end (Pony rides, Easter Egg rolling down the grassy knoll etc etc ) We have had a Skatepark in Livingston for 35 years and it is one of the best sports facilities in West Lothian.

There is only one skatepark in the whole of Edinburgh which is at the other side of the city to leith. Any initiative which gets kids off the streets and into a positive and healthy activity should be welcomed and supported by the council in a deprived area such as leith.

A skatepark in leith is a fantastic idea. They provide great outdoor fun and physical exercise in a none gender or generationally biased way.
As a parent of a young daughter I have observed skateparks all over the uk. The thing that has impressed me most has been how different age groups share their skills and pride. We have also see good examples of self policing by young people.
I can't believe there isn't one here already. It's not like they need to cost loads of money. Just a good design, some measurements, a few days work with a digger and some poured concrete. Some benches and plants would be an added bonus!
The design can be simple. One of the best I have seen is in Truro. I've got a great video of my daughter aged five scooting round it amongst older kids and adults.
I think this is just the thing Leith needs (especially as we have lost water world), it would be great if you could support it.

I think it is vital that young people have places where they can meet & enjoy themselves in a safe environment

I have family in Edinburgh including a young granddaughter and am aware of the need for more recreational space for young people

Because I think it' simportant for kids to have areas to play and develop in and they shouldn't have to send a petition to their local council to get that but they do.

Pilrig park or redbraes park are both ideal locations for a reasonable sized concrete skatepark. Lots of skateboarders of all ages in Leith. This place would be very well used by people of all ages!
