I would love to hear and take in everyone's point of view on this, however, I will not tolerate straight out negative remarks. If it keeps on "Guest" all your comments will just be removed! I will not have this made into something negative when that is NOT OUR GOAL at all!! We believe that Christ should be first in our lives, and the life of our children, and that our children shouldn't be punished by not having time to complete the homework when Christ (and going to church) is put first in their lives. I have never once said take homework out completely. What would be great is if on each Friday or even Monday the week to come's homework was given out all at once on a sheet of paper sent home to parents with a due date of Friday. That way we all could work on it on the days we have to most time to! End of story.

I'm having a hard time understanding you at all. We have Freedom of Religion in the Constitution. Separation of church and state is not a theory explicitly stated in the Constitution, only there to make sure no ONE religion becomes the national religion and imposed on all people. This is about homework, the possibility of TOO much homework that teacher's use a crutch, and the "we/they" mentality Tattnall County Schools creates by blaming parents for their failures.

I would like to also state that in my opinion, this isn't the teacher's faults that homework is given so much. Yes, I do think some teachers could plan better and send home a "Here's your weekly homework" sheet, but I don't think this is their "fault". These teachers are pushed and pressed to the max. They have so many standards and mandatory "stuff" over them to where they feel stretched beyond their limits. So, I just wanted to make it clear that this isn't a "I hate the teachers" bandwagon in my opinion! It is CERTAINLY not what I want this to be about! Could we use some better teachers, yes in some ares! But, there are some amazing teachers in Tattnall, some that I wish we could multiply and use in every class room. I don't want to take a few "bad apples" and make it seem like that is all the teachers!!

#33 Ok...Everyone let's talk about this calmly...

I think if we profile this situation in a psychological manner, we can logically conclude what the problem is. There are great teachers in the Tattnall County School System. And parents, let's just say, they are not rewarded for the hard work they do. Teachers, there are those parents who just don't care about their kids in this county, but these here are parents that do care and are willing to discuss, not "fight" with you to better teach the children and support you and your classrooms.
First, who stands to gain if teachers and parents are at odds? Who tells parents that teachers don't work and who tells parents teachers don't work? Who shuts out people from the decision-making process in county education? Who only tells the public what they want to hear? Who cuts money, support, and training because of "no money"? If a a county gets millions of dollars in federal and state and county funding and then tells teachers "We have to take your bonus because of no money, what is the reason behind it?
Typically, people in high positions tend to misuse power to maintain a control of money. They manipulate and incite various groups to hide behind to continue their activities and control. Teachers and parents, you guys are on the same team. Let's start putting people in authority over our children with moral character and work together to help each other.

The hard thing is though, most of the school system, including a lot of teachers (not all!!!) don't want to hear from parents anymore, and we aren't allowed in on the decision making!!  We weren't even really publicly told about a new principle this year at GES.  It is like a lot of times, they think it is really none of our business, when really it is COMPLETELY parents business on what is going on in a school system!!  I hear a lot of people in the school system claiming they want parent involvement, but from what I have seen, and this is just my opinion, what they only want is parent's money for fundraisers and such .. not parent involvement!  They try to push the little ones to be grown too fast!  Parents should be sent home homework, without small children being expected to remember what it is or to write it down.  If you want them to write it down, then take the time to check and make sure they did.  I can't make them write it down or remember it, I am not at school with them.  I KNOW teachers have a lot on them and I completely empathize with that, but they would have tons more parents help if they accepted it.

I think that no one can agree and as long as we keep replying, were going to keep arguing on a never-ending steam of uncertainty about our situation, religion, and opinions.

I think everyone's beginning to realize the problems actually. I think great teachers in this county deserve awesome raises and principals too! The Reidsville Middle School Principal is on of the best and the school always performs above average. No one can argue with numbers.
