Let's take a stand against Sun International

MM-2195.jpgSun International turning their backs on patrons who either died or had debilitating injuries at their Sun City Resort, hiding behind "own risk" legislature. Mario Swartz had a diving accident at Sun City 31 years ago, and was diagnosed as a quadriplegic C5/C6, paralyzed in four limbs needing 24 hour care. Soon after his accident, Sun International offered him a R50 000, which bought him a motorized wheelchair and J2 cushion. Recently, they offered him a ex gratia payment of R20 000, and no more as emphasized by the COO. The money Sun International offered Marion would not even cover his medical are caregiver expenses for a year. Quality of life for quadriplegics laregely depends on their financial status. A government disability grant cannot address the overwhelming needs quadriplegics have. In her mothers words...Caitlin 8 years old, with a zest for life stayed for one more night of fun and laughter at Sun City - and the worst nightmare as parents actually became a reality when she was returned to them in a body bag. Caitlin was knocked over by a speeding truck overtaking on a solid white line as she was about to go to the car to come home. Sun City took no responsibility and eventually took the stance that  it is a public road (in front of the vacation club) and made us deal with their insurance company only. The CEO of Sun International at the time, David Coutts Troutter would not even take our calls. We had to speak to their PR lady. His secretary had the audecity to ask why we are calling; and in her words..."is it money you want". They would not give me witness statements and would not tell me why a paramedic helicopter was not dispatched. In the end, I had to settle for a  bench as a memorial to Caitlin at Sun City. To this day I cannot understand how a family resort got away with no formal investigation after a child died due to negligence on their part. They blamed her for running accross the road. They did however silently change the bus stop signs, stop signs, and pedestrian crossings. So we are to remember Caitlin, forever 8 and never to forget Sun International's despicable behaviour and response to this heartbreaking incident. As for me, I had to deal with rejection from Sun International for three decades. They wouldn't even buy me a motorized wheelchair or any of the much needed assistive devices when I was discharged from hospital in August 1991.

LETS TAKE A STAND AGAINST CORPORATES WHO VALUE PROFITS MORE THAN THE WELL-BEING OF PATRONS. The very same people who subscribes to the Sun Bet gambling platform.
