A petition to the Federal government and National Assembly to enforce life imprisonment as punishment for rape

Nigeria as a nation has laws that govern rape through the Criminal Code,the Penal Code, the Criminal Laws of Lagos ,the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP Act) but these penalties are not properly reviewed until recent fatal cases. Although now reviewed, we want proper enforcement!

Nowhere is safe for us all, our girls and women are raped in public places and sometimes in their own homes. Our public and governmental negligence of this has dragged rape rates overboard - reported or unreported.

I am Okolo Ikechukwu Innocent. Founder, Milecent Foundation. As a doctor and teen coach, it wearies me to see what rape has become in our societies, yet proper justice is not being enforced enough for serial rapists to fear government sanctions.

Nobody is safe as a mother, as a daughter, as a colleague or as a child. I urge everyone to sign this petition as we are the voices for these victims!

Therefore we want the National Assembly, Federal government of Nigeria, government officials, NGOs, public and private organizations, community leaders and society to sign this petition and report any suspected case of rape.

Together, we can combat this epidemic.
