Permanent closure of gate at Hibiscus Road, Ridgeworth

Dear residents of Ridgeworth,
Over the last few years we have seen a dramatic increase in criminal opportunists gaining access into Ridgeworth via the
gate located between Durban Road and Hibiscus Road. We are well aware that residents of Ridgeworth and persons
working in Ridgeworth also make use of this access point. Whilst residents of Ridgeworth have been unlocking the gate in
the mornings and locking again at night, it is impractical to monitor persons entering during the days.
On Tuesday 04 April 2023, 2 persons gained access into Ridgeworth via the gate during the day. These persons accosted and
stabbed a resident at the gate.
We, your elected Ridgeworth Neighbourhood Watch Committee, have escalated this, as a high risk entry point for criminals
into Ridgeworth, to the SAPS, our Ward Councillor as well as the MEC of Safety & Security. After consulting, we have
resolved that this gate will need to be permanently closed to mitigate the risk of criminal activity in our neighbourhood.
