Petition for Urgent Action Regarding Lack of Access to Water to Randburg

To: The Human Rights Commission,

We, the undersigned members of the community, urgently bring to your attention the dire situation we are facing due to the unavailability of water for the past nine days. As residents of this community, we firmly believe that access to clean water is a fundamental human right, essential for our health, sanitation, and overall well-being.

Despite our continuous payment for water services, we have been left without access to this basic necessity. The reservoirs are empty, and neither Johannesburg Water nor Rand Water has provided a clear plan of action to rectify the situation. We have witnessed no tangible progress towards resolving the issue, leaving us in a state of distress and uncertainty.

The lack of water has had severe consequences on our daily lives. Families are unable to maintain proper hygiene, children cannot attend school due to unclean conditions, and businesses are unable to operate effectively. Furthermore, vulnerable members of our community, such as the elderly and individuals with health conditions, are particularly at risk due to the lack of access to water.

We implore the Human Rights Commission to intervene immediately and take necessary action to ensure that our right to access clean water is restored without further delay. We request the following:

1. An investigation into the root causes of the water shortage and accountability for those responsible for the failure to maintain adequate water supply.
2. A transparent and comprehensive plan of action from Johannesburg Water and Rand Water outlining how they intend to address the current crisis and prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.

Time is of the essence, and we cannot afford to wait any longer for a resolution to this critical issue. We urge the Human Rights Commission to prioritize this matter and take swift action to safeguard our fundamental right to access clean water.
