Petition to Executive Mayor, City of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Sivuyile Ngodwana, the MMC for Water, Sanitation & Energy, Cllr. Leshaka Manamela, and the Portfolio Committee of CoGTA in the National Assembly

We the residents of Ekurhuleni hereby petition the Executive Mayor, City of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Sivuyile Ngodwana, the MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy, Cllr. Leshaka Manamela, and the Portfolio Committee for CoGTA in the National Assembly to urgently investigate and address the Energy and Water Crisis in the City Ekurhuleni.  

The investigation should address amongst other things:

1. The high number of area power outages.

2. Slow response times and lack of staff available after hours to restore electricity/ respond to outages.

3. The high incidence of cable and equipment theft and vandalism during loadshedding and unplanned power outages.

4. The high number of illegal electricity connections and by-passed meters throughout the City.

5. The lack of security measures to protect City of Ekurhuleni Energy personnel. infrastructure, and network.     

6. Lack of water as a result of the absence of back-up power generators at water pump stations during loadshedding and/or extended power outages.
