PETITION TO MMC FOR CITY PLANNING TO INSTITUTE A FINE AND PERMIT SYSTEM TO PREVENT THE MUSHROOMING OF SPAZA SHOPS IN WARD 25

We the residents of Bredell, Pomona, and Brentwood Park in Ward 25 would like to request that the Department of City Planning puts plans in place to curb the mushrooming of illegal spaza shops in residential areas. The Spaza shops are popping up all over Bredell Pomona and Brentwood Park and there is no plans or rezoning done for any of the spaza shops that are being built or off-loaded. These spaza shops consist of ship containers which are put down on agricultural zoned properties, without the permission of the relevant authorities in City Planning.  

We the residents of Ward 25 herewith petition the MMC for City Planning, Cllr. Nomadlozi Nkosi, to institute a fine for the wrong zone usage to all the owners of the properties where spaza shops are illegally operated. We also want these shops to be closed with immediate effect and a permit process to be instituted to control the establishment of Spaza shops across the metro.
