PETITION TO MMC FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT TO OPEN THEMBISA OLD AGE HOME FOR OCCUPATION

The Tembisa Old Age Home is a state-of-the-art facility for the elderly living in Tembisa. The R30 million facility was built in 2012 but only opened its doors to accommodate the elderly two years later, the 14 October 2014. But today it remains empty as it was closed on 12 July 2019. In April 2022, the MEC for the Department of Social Development was asked about the status of Tembisa Old Age Home and stated that "the facility is still closed and not yet operational.

The building has been renovated as per the Municipality’s Building Division specifications. All completion certificates (structural, plumbing, glazing etc.) are in place. Outstanding item: City of Ekurhuleni is currently finalizing issues related to Town Planning Approvals - consolidation application and obtaining Council Resolution for park closure”.

We the residents of Thembisa herewith petition the MMC for Social Development, Cllr. Bridget Thusi, to open the Thembisa old age home to accommodate the senior citizens who do not have caregivers at home.
