Petition to Stop Interim Meter Readings in the City and to Improve the Meter Reading/ Billing System

We hereby petition the MMC of Finance, Cllr. Nkululeko Dunga, to urgently cease the practice of charging residents 3 or more months of interim meter reading levies on monthly statements.  The interim readings have resulted in an erratic meter reading process where the meter readings do not reflect the true monthly usage at household level.

We also call for:

1. The CoE APP for submission of meter readings to be upgraded so that monthly meter readings can be submitted by the Customer. Currently readings are not being captured on the monthly account statements.

2. The Finance billing department to be given access to the meter reading system so that they can adjust and capture meter readings when a customer comes to the offices with queries. At present, they do not have access and cannot assist customers with meter-related queries.
