Re: ward 58 water and service delivery crisis

PETITION TO THE CITY OF JOHANNESBURG MAYOR/MEC/MMC/JW/CITY POWER, JRA

We, the undersigned residents of Ward 58, urgently call for the implementation of basic services in our ward. As City of Johannesburg rates and other essential services paying residents, we are deeply impacted by the lack of access to piped clean water, the poor delivery of Pikitup services, the state of our city parks abd recreational spaces and the un-Drive able and deteriorating condition of the roads and badly maintained padaestrian walks.

Despite repeated pleas and efforts from our Ward Councillors and residents, shouting out the city officials, our cries to the relevant authorities have fallen to deaf ears to implement immediate short turnaround solutions. This lack of response has left our community feeling frustrated and neglected. We want to emphasize that Councillor Nair has been working tirelessly to advocate for our community's needs.

One of our urgent concerns is the provision of water to districts that have been without water as a basic need for months. In addition, for the past few months, there has been daily throttling of water through piped lines every evening, leaving residents without access to water during critical times. This practice is unacceptable, and residents in various suburbs impacted by the throttling of water supply have been forced to rely on expensive and unreliable alternative sources.

We also demand an improvement in Pikitup services. Garbage is often left uncollected, and overflowing bins are a common sight. This poses a health risk to residents and creates an unsightly environment.

Our city parks are also in dire need of attention. Many of our parks are in a state of needing desperate repairs, with broken fencing and equipment, overgrown grass, and unsafe conditions. These green spaces are an essential resource for our community, providing a place for recreation, exercise, and relaxation.

Furthermore, the condition of the roads and sidewalks in our ward is a cause for concern. There are missing manhole covers and potholes that are not being fixed, and sidewalks are falling apart. This creates hazardous conditions for pedestrians and motorists alike.

We believe that it is the responsibility of the City of Johannesburg to ensure as per the countries charter the provision of basic human beds, basic services to its citizen. We call on no other than the Mayor, MEC's, MMC's, JW, JRA and City Power to take immediate action to address our issues. We urge the authorities to work with Councillor Nair and our residents to provide our ward with the services it desperately needs.
