Request to be granted a makeup assessment for Hydrometallurgy and Mineral Processing

Request to be granted a makeup assessment for Hydrometallurgy and Mineral Processing.

As second-year BengTech Metallurgical Engineering students, we are writing this petition to request an opportunity to write another semester test. This is because everything happened too fast in these two courses, and we didn't have enough time to comprehend the information we were given. We completed several chapters in a short period of time and were expected to write assessments a few days later.

During the test week, we still have practical activities and also be expected to submit reports. Even the standard of examination used by lecturers does not match the manner in which they deliver their lessons. We sometimes write another assessment without first receiving the results of the previous assessment, which is a disadvantage because not knowing your performance on the previous assessment does not help, since you do not know how much you need to improve for the next assessment.

The lecturer assured us that formulae would be provided for mineral processing in one of the recorded classes, only to find out during the test that formulas are not be provided; this was unjust on our part because we had not studied to master the formulas. The lecturer for Hydrometallurgy completed one of the chapters and provided us example questions that were part of the scope the night before the assessment, leaving us with little time to prepare for the assessment.

We feel that it is completely within our rights as Tshwane University of Technology students to be provided with proper education and that these rights must be respected. We currently believe that our rights are being violated and that we are being denied proper access to a high-quality education. We would greatly welcome the opportunity to write make-up tests for these two modules due to the aforementioned issues. We would appreciate it if our petition is taken into serious consideration.

Yours Sincerely

Second BengTech Metallurgical Engineering Students
