Residents of Leboeng Section & Ext 5 in Tembisa have had to endure lack of service delivery in terms of electricity and other services. Our counselor has not attended to any of our grievances

Dear Mayor of Ekurhuleni

As long time residents of Leboeng Section & Ext 5 in Tembisa .
We are writing a complaint about:

Unfair Load reduction:

1.We were not formally informed by our municipality about the nature of Load reduction

2.We were not issued with a public announcement of the schedule, it was shared to us by the public on Social media (Later shared to us by our councilor)

3.Our power cuts are scheduled longer than other surrounding areas in Tembisa, for a duration of 6 to 18 hours or more.

4.As per point no. 3, ward 7 municipal office  provide us with feedback that rather seems robotic, automated cut & paste responses that does not make logical sense to us:

“ Sub B has fault and affected Sub AA, C thus affecting D, we          busy fixing something”

“ There are number of technical fault on sub B which link to

                          Sub C

                         Sub AA

                          Sub D”

“They are trying to detect the  fault at such they are doing is

called load reduction to avoid complete shutdown until sort the

               Problem “

5.No preventive maintenance is done on our substation D to further mitigate matter.

6.We are delayed with service delivery & electrical repairs done by the energy department.

7.As a result of the above mentioned our Senior & unemployed people can’t afford
to source out other forms of energy such  as paraffin, gas & charcoal to carry on with their day to day households errands (Cooking & Bathing etc)

Illegal Electrical Connection:

1.Ekurhuleni energy department is aware of illegal connections performed by informal settlement areas such as Ivory Park Ext 9,10 (Mzondi) & Winnie Mandela but have not intervened to stop this, after numerous complaints were lodged by the community.

2.The power source is falsely obtained from street lights & overhead lines stretching from Swazi Inn flea market and Tsenelong pay-point area.

3.It is suspected that certain stakeholders have allowed such a crisis to occur as per section 2, please roll-out investigation to following sects (SAPS, Energy Department  & ESKOM officials)

Poor Infrastructure Maintenance & Service Delivery:

1.Our municipal rates, taxes & levies are still abnormally higher than before & have not been lowered, as per previous public announcement with your office.

“Our property rates and residential fee had increased due to the EMPD structure near us. We do not receive any services from them and there are elements of criminality happening around it and are not bothered. We are therefore asking the Mayor to please convert it to something beneficial to the community”

2.Our garbage collection system is not functional, some days it’s not collected, late service is rendered unscheduled & unannounced.

3.Roads & sewers systems are at poor standards & not maintained.

“Recent side roads projects that were never fixed with concrete haven't been  completed even now. No signages/road signs, stretching near the four way stop near Metro Police Precinct up to Leboeng Letsiakarana street.”

4.High crime rate  in our area and minimal intervention from Law enforcement.

Poor street-lighting during early hours of the morning & late at night exposing our people to robbery/crime.

“Streets lights that weren't working for over 3 years now, reported but no action & feedback on them “

”Almost all the extension 5 street lights are not working and         Swazi Inn flea market,it's very dark in the morning and at      night.”

5.Re-active cooperation from our elected Ward 7 representatives thus we request for new leadership to be appointed.

We understand there is a load shedding crisis & other factors in the country. May you please find time in your busy schedule to consider our grievances and mitigate the above mentioned matters, as our Community Services Departments have failed us.

Kind Regards,
