Restore44

The time is now to Restore 44. Syracuse University football has a long, proud history, much of which is tied together with the legacy of 44. Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little...these three Hall of Fame running backs all proudly wore 44, kicking off a tradition that has resonated through all facets of life at Syracuse University. From the campus zip code, to the telephone exchange at SU, the number 44 is an integral part of the University's history, and needs to once again be a part of its future.

The number was retired in what many have come to perceive as a foolish marketing move, and while there are some who continue to stand against putting the number back in the rotation, many more are in favor of restoring the glory of Syracuse University, an endeavor that is intertwined with restoring the legacy of 44.

The best way to carry on this legacy, and to honor men like Brown, Davis, and Little, is not to hang this jersey away in the rafters of the Carrier Dome. It's to allow the torch to be passed to future generations of outstanding - and upstanding - young men who can shine a light on the storied past of the Syracuse Orange, and the legends who helped build the program and put Syracuse University on the map.

I hope you'll join with us in the effort to restore 44. Join the effort on social media by using the hashtag #Restore44.
