Road Closure / Securing: Silverton Ext 5

We as long time residents of Silverton Extension 5, have had to witness a number of crimes being committed in our area!! We have lost loved ones, safety and security, our private belongings, our hope, our faith and in some instances, our homes! Our security teams and fellow residents have (and still do) spent countless hours on trying to keep our community safe but are extremely limited. Some of our residents have given up their family time, their jobs and their free time to protect our community. Some, at their own expense! We have tried EVERYTHING to safeguard our residents but are now on our knees, begging for support on the only last resort and solution: to close of the entrance / exit on Pretoria Road, heading into Bleshoender Street in Silverton Extension 5. This entrance / exit has been a crime enabler, it has allowed taxis and uninvited vehicles to enter our safe space and cause havoc and it has opened up a number of opportunities to criminals, to enter and exit our extension who get to move around freely between innocent civilians. We have had more armed robberies than you would expect in a busy shopping mall. We have witnessed attempted murders, kidnapping, armed robberies, theft and countless other crimes. With hundreds of other suburbs around Silverton, closing off their entrances / exits for the safety of their residents who have invested every cent into building a home and every ounce of hope in living a safe life, we trust that the same could be applied to our extension. We are hopless, we are tired and we are fed up with the rising crime statistics in our extension. Our children deserve a safe environment, our elderly deserve a peacefull home and our hard working residents deserve to have a say.
