Comments

#1201

I too am a dog LOVER. with a pit bull mix I am lucky to have great neighbors in the north end. I could not imagine having to wear a cage on my face for the rest of my time. Amazing we should start locking up people just because they LOOK scary.......

TerriBill Dorrington (new glasgow, 2019-06-01)

#1204

This is pathetic, Obviously the neighbor has a beef with the party and they are to stupid ( animal control ) to see it, I hope that the people that put these people in power take them the hell out!!!

Fonda Fancy (McCallum Settlement, 2019-06-01)

#1206

This is another example of New Glasgow backward ways. Judging a dog on its breed is pathetic. I have German shepherds, I bet I would get the same treatment. Buddy is beautiful and I have never met a friendlier breed. This is bullcrap Town of New Glasgow!!!!!

Lenore Fraser (New Glasgow , 2019-06-01)

#1207

I’m signing because what kind of town council agrees with someone throwing out accusations and not requesting proof? It’s so easy for anyone to cry wolf not of days and people just believe it. Do the right thing, get proof before agreeing with someone that’s feuding with the person they are making the accusations about!

Melissa Pettipas (Stellarton, 2019-06-01)

#1210

This is utterly ridiculous and shameful that the Town of New Glasgow is punishing an innocent creature who can’t defend himself because of a disgruntled neighbour. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?????

Natasha Morash (Lorraine , 2019-06-01)

#1212

I do believe steps should be taken if a dog attacks someone unprovoked. However, dogs who have never been proven to have shown aggressive behavior should not be punished for those few who do and who are a true risk to people. It is unreasonable and cruel to muzzle an animal who is well-behaved and unproven to be malicious, simply because in many cases, it is a human who has a fear of dogs that is complaining. Perhaps that person should attend classes to help them get over the fears they have. Parents who have fears - fears of animals, fears of insects, fear of water or heights, often pass those fears along to their own children, and those children grow up to live with unwarranted fears of their own, fears which can stifle a person's sense of adventure and true joy of life. I have had many dogs in my lifetime, from tiny little pekapoms to pit bulls and labs, and my little guys were actually more aggressive than any of the larger breeds I had, including those breeds with reputations for being vicious. I hope and pray that the Town of New Glasgow changes it's views and how it deals with reports of "ferocious" or "vicious" animals. Dogs should not be muzzled based only upon a phone call and without proven facts of dangerous behavior. Perhaps the animal control officers need better training to be able to make a fair and accurate discernment of each animal that is the subject of a complaint. That would be a much more accurate and fairer protocol to follow. Thank you.

Joanne Jordan (Sherbrooke, 2019-06-01)

#1213

I am a dog lover, and would never accept my dog to be under a muzzle unless he truly was a danger.

Ashley Lewis (New glasgow , 2019-06-01)

#1219

That sweet dog should not have a muzzle. Golden retrievers are a friendly, calm family dog. Some people are just hateful!

Melanie Eagles (Sydney Forks, 2019-06-01)

#1221

some people's kids deserve a muzzle WAaaay before an animal does... and where's the by law officer for that??

Sean Clancy (Goulais River, 2019-06-01)

#1222

I believe in rights for animals and everybody knows these dogs are one of the calmest breeds. Your right your neighbour is a lunatic!!!!

Heather Whipple (Saint john, 2019-06-01)

#1223

I’m signing because no animal that has absolutely no background of violence should be forced to wear a muzzle.

Mariellen Bollock (Lakewood , 2019-06-01)

#1224

Neighbors can be cruel people and my daughter had golden retriever and she never barks.

JoJo Appleby (Dartmouth , 2019-06-01)

#1227

Well trained obedient dogs do not deserve mistreatment. No dog deserves this treatment. We adopt them as companions, we’ve domesticated their species. We should not be treating them with this level of disrespect, especially out of “discomfort” or breed prejudice.

Kendra Hofrichter (Chester, 2019-06-01)

#1229

I have my own dog myself and the thought of my dog having to wear a cage over his mouth just cause of false accusations or just cause your neighbor feels uncomfortable is just plain wrong..... dogs are just like humans and they have feelings too..

Breana Greene (New Glasgow , 2019-06-01)

#1231

people are getting out of control! If you don’t like dogs then STAT AWAY FROM THEM! They have a right to live and be a part of a family!

Wendy Doiron (Nauwigewauk , 2019-06-01)

#1232

I'm signing because animals have rights too!!! I've been hurt, lied to, abused, etc by humans. Dogs have never disappointed me. They are more kind, loving, and pure of heart then most people I know. I trust them more than people. They need not be lazy and actually investigate complaints to find out what's going on. Dogs don't lie, people do.

Sindy Ford (Dominion, NS, 2019-06-01)

#1234

It seems that this is very unfair and should not be done as these dogs have done nothing to cause this to happen For heavens sake be fair

Clarice Beeler (WILEVILLE, 2019-06-01)

#1238

This is ridiculous. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?!? How credible is the complainant? So many problems with this!!!!

Denise Brophy (Halifax, 2019-06-01)

#1239

I don't believe people should make up stories and it should be a judge, after he has heard all the facts that makes the decision.

Kim Ripley (St. Stephen, N.B, 2019-06-01)

#1240

I dont agree with the action being taken against the dogs in this situation.

Madeline Last (TORONTO , 2019-06-01)

#1241

I am 75 years old, have had dogs all my life. Golden Retrievers are among the calmest and best tempered dogs of all.

Walena MacLaren (Stratford, 2019-06-01)

#1243

It is severely unfair to these animals to wear a muzzle when they clearly are not a danger!!!

Sandra Van den Heuvel (Sussex NB, 2019-06-01)

#1247

This discrimination has to stop! You can’t punish an animal because some snowflake of an inbred human has decided to be a complainer. You will end up with a society like the states where all they do is call the cops on one another. These complainers need to grow up or be heavily fined for wasting taxpayer dollars and time and not allowed to continue to do this! Shame on the local government for allowing this!!

Sarah Robichaud-Brown (Enfield, 2019-06-02)

#1250

They have no proof that buddy is the dog that this one and only neighbour is talking about. I guarantee that if one of the workers animals were being accused of this they would be putting up a fight!!! When the neighbour called in yet another complaint and the dog wasn't even in the county then any normal or concerned animal worker would be seeing red flags. I think this is ridiculous and a complete waste of everyones time and tax payers money!!! I hope this is resolved very soon. Buddy doesn't deserve this.

Wendy Lloyd (Westville, 2019-06-02)

#1251

If the dog has never shown aggression or bit anyone they should not have to use muzzle...seems this person in animal control just wants the easy way out & afraid to tell the idiot neighbour there is NOTHING to 8nvestigate as the dog has never done anything wrong

Richard MacDonald (Dartmouth, 2019-06-02)

#1253

I have 2 beautiful large dogs and I can't imagine them having to wear a muzzle because somebody else doesn't trust them or like them. This is wrong on so many levels for these poor dogs. Would they muzzle their children if they were too loud in the yard and it didn't sit right with the neighbors? No they would not, our pets are like our children this needs to be stopped.

Sherry Veno (Amherst, 2019-06-02)

#1254

They have no actual proof that this dog is any of what the neighbor is saying. Maybe the neighbor needs a muzzle. And a harassment charge

Patricia Stewart (Truro, 2019-06-02)

#1256

Ignorant people should educate themselves about dog breeds before they spout off their mouths. They would sooner complain then mind their own business. Those dogs wouldn't have hurt them people. My patience with people like that is slim. I have no respect for busy body trouble makers.

Becky Walker (Yarmouth, 2019-06-02)

#1261

This is utterly ridiculous, this poor dog has done nothing wrong and is being punished cause some liar who just doesn't like the dog. The owner even has proof that her and her dog weren't even in town on 1 of the false complaints

Carole Schleihauf (Laconia , 2019-06-02)

#1262

It’s not right a dog should be able to bark but not past 10 pm people get real.

Kim Gillingham (Ellershouse , 2019-06-02)

#1266

I am signing because I feel it is abuse of the rules/bylaws in place, the dogs deserve better. The individuals complaining are malicious, the dogs should not be muzzled to simply stop the phone calls to animal control. When aggressive animal complaints are proven to be unfounded, leave the poor dogs be.

Erin Sullivan (Enfield , 2019-06-02)

#1267

Golden retrievers are the love of my life & they have NEVER been such a harm in ANY case.

Taylor Dixon (Dartmouth, 2019-06-02)

#1270

people and their ignorance tick me off

Trevor Bennett (Trenton, 2019-06-02)

#1272

This is an outrage. I myself have a rottweiler who is sweet as sugar and if someone were uncomfortable with my dog I would suggest spending a moment with him to see how sweet he is. No dog should be forced to wear a muzzle because someone else is uncomfortable for no apparent reason. There are more small breed dogs who are aggressive and aren't held to the same standards as big dogs or dogs of certain breeds.

Kayla Strickland (Dartmouth, 2019-06-02)

#1274

No dog should have to be muzzled to make the neighbor feel better. A veterinary behaviorist should be called to asses the dog.

Tracy Cawley (Dutch Settlement , 2019-06-02)

#1277

I love dogs and believe this is cruel

Tracey Burke (Thorburn, 2019-06-02)

#1278

I am a dog owner for life and this is ridiculous. Some people need muzzled. Good for you for fighting this fight for our furry friends!!

Patricia A. Bennett (Halifax, 2019-06-02)

#1280

This is so wrong on all counts. How valid can a complaint be if the "victim" yes I said victim as in Buddy, was across the water in PEI. Not to be too nasty but maybe a muzzle order should be issued for the complaintant(s).

barbara french (dartmouth, 2019-06-02)

#1283

That’s not right!

Susie Driscoll (Saint John, 2019-06-02)

#1284

I’m signing because we’ll behaved animals should not be penalized by ignorant/stupid people.

Wendy Vrooman (Dartmouth , 2019-06-02)

#1289

This is disgraceful. How could Dig be aggressive toward someone when they weren't even there at the time?

Ashley Baker (Head of Jeddore, 2019-06-02)

#1290

golden retrievers should not have to wear a muzzle just because of a nasty neighbor

joanne mc intyre (port morien, 2019-06-02)

#1291

Complaints need to be investigated properly. Extreme prejudice and vindictiveness seems to be the policy. This needs to stop.

Michelle MacKinnon (York, 2019-06-02)

#1296

This is inhuman without accurate proof!

Jenna Macdonald (Glace Bay, 2019-06-02)

#1299

Im signing this because that is cruelty to an animal . How would the town off New Glasgow like it done to their pet ? Animals have rights to. Poor Buddy and the other dog invovled. God see all / what happen to Buddy Thou shall love their neighbour . One of the 10 commandments . That neighbour should stay to herself if she dont like dogs mined her PEAS And Q . My Prayers are with you Buddy and all other pets involved. Sinceally Margie

Margaret Robson (Oxford NS , 2019-06-02)

#1301

No one should be able to make this decision without going through tests and assessments

Anne North (Halifax , 2019-06-02)

#1302

I cannot believe this! NG animal control needs an overhaul and complaints should have to be proven not just acted upon blindly.

Erin Dudka (Lower Sackville, 2019-06-02)

#1303

My son was bitten by a dog on my property...this was the third time dog came after kids in neighbourhood. She would not keep him on a leash. She took off and avoided SPCAs calls to confirm dog had all his needles...which she never did reply and my son had to get a tetanus shot since bite was over a limp node. The dog charged at kids...and this lady continued to let her dog wander free until she moved. If the dog is on a leash what is purpose of a muzzle and has never attacked anyone. This happened in Stratford PEI and dog owner was living on Langley Rd.

Cathy McCarville (Stratford , 2019-06-02)

#1304

I am a dog lover and advocate for proper treatment!

Ashley Gibbs (Dartmouth, 2019-06-02)

#1305

I believe that all animal owners should have the chance to show to anyone weather or not their animal is aggressive! Not just by word of mouth with no investigation.

Stephanie Mills (Martins Point, 2019-06-02)

#1308

It’s ridiculous and there is no aggression. Someone needs to start checking into these complaints more thoroughly.

Ang MacDonald (Pictou, 2019-06-02)

#1309

Sounds like the animal control needs to dig a little deeper instead of having 'knee jerk' decisions. I won't publicly say what I think of them. But I think you know.

Ruth Garside (Stirling, 2019-06-02)

#1314

I am signing because I have Bernese Mountain Newfoundlander and every once and awhile he get loose, he is a runner, harmless but likes to run every chance he gets. He is totally friendly and loves everyone, he was charged with a dog at large and we were to go to court we refused to attend because it was ridiculous, he is the kindest soul ever. Yes he is big but a big teddy bear and just because he got disoriented one night during a storm and lost his bearings and showed up at a ladies door that look like ours and he was desperately trying to get her to let her in, which I wouldn't let a large strange dog in my house either. But the distress should have showed how variable and pathetic he was instead she was dramatic and told the police she was afraid for her life and now he has a label. So now even if we get burgled and he bits someone we will be forced to end his life. Ridiculous people need to read the situation.

Jennifer Johnstone (Westville , 2019-06-02)

#1315

This is absolutely ridiculous, unless the dog has a PROVEN history of aggression

Lianne Robinson (Carp, 2019-06-02)

#1323

This is ridiculous! Yes, you have to protect the public, but you don't get to do what someone wants without any reason. You can't muzzle a dog just because a neighbour doesn't like the dog (or it's owner), & you don't want to have to deal with any more complaints; you muzzle a dog because it's bitten someone. Muzzling a dog so you don't have to deal with complaints is being lazy, not doing your job, & not upholding the law; do your job properly, don't punish the dogs.

Hilary MacKenzie (Smiths Falls, 2019-06-02)

#1324

i'm signing because I feel as a dog lover and golden retriever own as well that these dogs are of no danger ,, ppl like to make trouble because they are not dog lovers,, shame on them.. take the muzzle off of Buddy

Joyce Hunter (Brockville, 2019-06-02)

#1325

It’s disgraceful that this beautiful, gentle dog has to wear a mask on his face every time he steps out of the door. The Animal Control aren’t doing their jobs by investigating this situation and realizing the truth. This situation needs to be reversed.

Susan Giffen (Mississauga, 2019-06-02)

#1326

I think this is terrible what people are saying and the poor dog has done nothing. What is wrong with animal control. These neighbours need lessons in how to be a good neighbour and not a trouble maker for no reason. The neighbours should be charged with harassing these good people.

Brenda Poirier (Kemptville, 2019-06-02)

#1328

This backward muzzle order should be rescinded, as it's an embarrassment to the City of New Glasgow who uneducated bylaw officer is biased against dog owners.

Cindy Ouellette (Sunderland , 2019-06-02)

#1330

issuing mussle orders to dogs with no bad behaviour is just wrong! It’s also offensive to the dog owner.

Sandy Fumerton (Port Elgin, 2019-06-02)

#1332

A dog shouldn’t have to suffer for human prejudice. Innocent until proven guilty should be the gold standard!

Nadine Giffin (Cole Harbour, 2019-06-02)

#1333

I’m signing this because this is ridiculous dogs have rights too..

Megan Fifield (Kitchener, 2019-06-02)

#1334

This is not right.

Elaine Chartrand (Angus, 2019-06-02)

#1342

These stories demonstrate an abuse of power, and a laziness on the part of the animal control. Muzzle orders should be only put in place when there is a solid case/evidence, not on the word(&debunked stories) of prejudiced/etc neighbours. Its shameful.

Amanda Hisko (Smith's Falls, 2019-06-03)

#1343

Golden are the most well behaved dogs ever and never show aggression. This officer sould get to know this dog Buddy and find out for his or her self as to how the dog is and then they would know that the neighbor is a liar in this case...

Julz Williams - Addamson (INNISFIL, 2019-06-03)

#1344

This is totally ridiculous! Where is the evidence to support this decision!

Sharon Stevenson (Glacé Bay, 2019-06-03)

#1345

I was thinking of retiring in NS. I own a Doberman. An ambassador for the breed. Wonderful animal. If this is how the province is run, probably not. I thought east coasters were good people.

Lori Caldwell (Ottawa, 2019-06-03)

#1346

Im signing because our pets deserve better! If we dont act now for our fur-families, who will?! I applaud you chris!

Kayla cunningham (New glasgow, 2019-06-03)

#1348

I’ve never met an aggressive golden and I have met many. I suggest a muzzle for the neighbour!

Shirley Harper (Owen sound, 2019-06-03)

#1349

There needs to be proof of any accusations... not just a complaint from a vindictive neighbour. The mayor, MPP and MP need to be contacted, Hell, even Justin Trudeau. This power-crazed officer needs to receive the message that this is NOT allowed.

Randy Heimpel (Toronto, 2019-06-03)

#1350

I’m signing because this is outrageous and unfair.

jannette Sam (East York , 2019-06-03)

#1352

No dog that it has not been proven to be a fact of being guilty should have to be muzzled due to false accusations and fear mongering

Debbie Henwood (Calgary, 2019-06-03)

#1358

I’m signing because I’m originally from new Glasgow. I hate to see this type of bullying. This neighbour is a bully.

Lola Armstrong (Kitchener , 2019-06-03)

#1360

This is disgusting, check the facts first. Poor dog.

Kathy Wappett (Kincardine, 2019-06-03)

#1363

I support removing the muzzle ban on this poor dog!

Martina Kirkwood (Bowmanville , 2019-06-03)

#1366

They're all good boys.

Blake Barkley (Ottawa, 2019-06-03)

#1372

This is hateful and terrible. No well behaved dog should have to suffer through this!

Karen Corsten (Halifax, 2019-06-03)

#1373

I am signing because there is never any justice. How can you do this to dog without any solid proof??? Everyone needs to sign this petition and stand up for what is right.

Katelyn Symms (Dartmouth, 2019-06-03)

#1377

I’m signing because I truly believe there should be proof in every case. Innocent until proven guilty .

Jessie Day (Chaswood , 2019-06-03)

#1380

i have read the story and agree with the author.born and raised in new glasgow . left in 1976.

bob harper (hamilton, 2019-06-03)

#1382

No gentle dog should be subject to these conditions particularly if all previous complaints were unfounded. This animal control officer has overstepped his authority and legal action may be required to rectify this sad unjust situation! Please fight this!

Douglas B McCarten (Oakville, Ontario , 2019-06-04)

#1384

No dog should have this done unless it can be proven by more than just complaints of just one person...

Nancy Hollywood (Prince George , 2019-06-04)

#1385

Pure laziness on the part of the animal control or bylaw officer -by not investigating the situation fully - will forever affect this dog’s life. Shame on him.

Carolyn Miller (Alliston, On, 2019-06-04)

#1388

Dog should have to be very aggressive to have a cage over their face!
Put a cage over the face of the complainers!!!

Torra Brown (Centre Burlington , 2019-06-04)

#1391

This situation is highly disturbing and just plain wrong. I am a doggie parent and can't even imagine my gentle Golden Retriever, who loves everyone, being subjected to this kind of punishment based solely on the word of a nasty, vindictive neighbour.

ELIZABETH WATLING (Keswick Ridge, 2019-06-04)

#1397

I completely agree with the owner of this dog. If what he’s saying is accurate, maybe more education/training is needed for the animal control officers. Are they understaffed and resorting to these drastic measures because they don’t have time to adequately investigate?
