Keep the YMCA Point St Charles in its original building

The YMCA in the Pointe, has been a bridge for those needing help (after school) for parents needing support (day-care) and all of us wanting exercise.

The Pointe Y has always had great potential. And despite, the constant need for funding, the immediate future should be promising. Why close now?

Im signing because this is a place i trust. I send my kids there every summer for the camp. The caretakers for the kids are superb and well selected. Im personally attached to the value it holds; for too many reasons. Beneficial to the families nearby, employs those whom work there.

I'm signing because I use to be an animator and many programs made a difference in the lives of the point st charles youth. Where are they suppose to go afterschool?? As for memberships try renovating the building as the swimming pool and other facilities aren't upgraded.

I enjoy the YMCA Point St. Charles just where it is !!!!

This YMCA has been very important in my family’s life! It has been an integral resource in the life of my young niece & nephew. It also does amazing things for disadvantaged people in the area. They will be without important & necessary resources if this location closes. It isn’t enough to say they should travel if the programmes are relocated, because they don’t have the means to do so.

Michelle Bohn (Lachine, 2019-11-17)

I literally grew up in this building. My grandfather took care of the YMCA when I was a kid, and I have so many wonderful memories of this place. From using the swimming pool, to attending dances in the gymnasium...this building holds so much love and history!

Youth in n that area & nearby locals need a place to feel safe, creative & learn new life skills. Youth PSC theatre commnity rehearses there in the ymca. Without the space available to the there is no more youth theatre programs. Please reconsider not closing the pC ymca. Thank you

I think the CEO was very pathetic isn’t he reading this petition or wait is he just gonna ignore everything until he closes everything down
He just repeats himself over and over I watched all the news and read all the articles I would be ashamed if I was the CEO of this company
I truly hope a miracle happens with the Y Psc

With all the celebrities and politicians and all the connections out there there must be somebody that could come out and help this organization in this neighbourhood even a sports group might be able to help

Amy Lalli (Montreal , 2019-11-17)

I agree there must be somebody that knows either the Saputo family or the Montréal Canadiens even a Tim Hortons anybody

The YMCA provides some essential resources and assistance to many community organizations in Point St. Charles . The Youth and adult theatre projects for example cannot exist without the rehearsal space provided by the Y for these activities. It is essential that the Y in this area remain open.

Terri Burman (Montreal, 2019-11-17)

I support the work this group does - in the Point there is a great need for support and help for young people, and this group does great work. Please consider their needs

I’m signing because I grew up there and want to support the pointers. Extra curricular activities help kids develop self confidence and skills and in this expensive world where both parents work these activities are good for the kids , family and community.

I am signibg because it is not acceptable that a not for profit organisation clise down two service points (PSC and Hochelaga) in needy areas for reason of profit. They should loose their not for profit status.

Denis Charron (Montreal, 2019-11-17)

#873

I have for years enjoyed attending lively first-rate community plays that were given free rehearsal space at the YMCA Pt St Charles. As a longtime Montreal professional actor who has been awarded ACTRA's Life Member Award and has appeared at the Segal Theatre and other venues in Montreal and Toronto, I was so very glad to see community theatre give young people a chance to spread their wings. Please realize that adults also benefit hugely from community theatre-- as playwrights, performers and audience members.

Jane Gilchrist (Montreal, 2019-11-17)

#874

The Y needs to stay open to support the development of many people....especially
youth in this area.

Sue Craig (Montreal, 2019-11-17)

The YMCA is a huge part of the community and plays a big roll in making youth programs a possibility. Help keep the YMCA where it is so the offered programs can continue to exist.

I am signing this petition because growing up in an inner city filled with gangs, violence and negletiful parents it is a safe haven for so many of us. It was out get away from home, from bullies, from school, from the streets, from all the negativity that surrounded neighborhood, the YMCA gave us a place where we can just be kids.
I am as so many other, are where we are today because of the after school program that pushed us to study and do homework, it pushed so many of us to become passionate about sports, dance, drama, and even circus, things that we would normally not have the opportunity to do. The YMCA gave us snacks, and made sure we had at least one thing in out stomachs before going home, and for some many of us that was the last thing we ate before the next day.
The teacher, volunteers, staff members and other kids all became our families and support systems.
The YMCA is a important place in my heart, and it will continue to save the kids of the neighborhood everyday by allowing them to have a place to go in for a snack, or a place to quietly get homework done, it is a place that makes kids feel safe.
I am signing this petition because I truly believe that inorder to save a neighborhood and help it to grow we need places like the YMCA to keep PSC afloat.

C’est important de conserver le YMCA pour les enfants du quartier. C’est primordial. Les jeunes y sont bien encadrés et bien motivés à faire des activités multiples.

I am the proud single parent raising a special needs child alone. My special needs child and I DEPEND on YMCA Point St-Charles every summer for its AWESOME staff.
The day camp is a wonder way for my son to interact with other children while enjoying the amazing activities the YMCA Point St-Chales offers my child

Point St-Charles is growning rapidly with new condos and townhouses, More people young and old are moving in to our neighborhood.

Do not close the YMCA
Rather
Invest in the future of PSC YMCS

The YMCA in Pointe St-Charles is a critical part of family resources within a community that faces challenges on the level of income security, social services, and places for at risk youth to safely and productively spend their time.

Catherine Bradley (Montreal , 2019-11-18)

#911

I’m signing this petition because the PSC-YMCA is vital to the neighborhood and to everyone in the surrounding areas. I have had a difficult 5 years and the classes and teachers there have helped me through a very stressful time. I’ve attended other classes at other Y’s, but the teachers and vibes at the PSC are by far the best, and I’ve been a member for over 20 years.

This is a very special place in a part of the Pointe that really needs to be kept alive and welcoming. We need to keep our youths out of the house and away from screens, and the YMCA is an essential partner for parents in that daily fight.

The YMCA in Pointe St Charles plays a significant role in enhancing the lives of our neighbourhood's seniors, youth, and children. It is places like the Y that help hold a community together; closing the Y would tear a hole in the fabric of the Pointe.

My entire childhood was spent here at the YMCA. I was apart of the community theatre, did the homework programs and even went to teen zone as I got older. This was a home away from home and other children need to experience what I did.

The YMCA is home to many. Home to the 7 year old kid who needs homework help and to be watched while mom works until 5pm. Home to the 12 year old boy in the pathways program that helps him transition to high school. Home to the 15 year girls who are hanging out, rather than getting in trouble on the street. Home to the the new mothers who wants to get back into shape after giving birth. Home to the men as they work out while they bring their children to soccer saturday morning. Home is where there's always a bathroom, a water fountain, a phone, a listening ear, a break from the cold or heat. It where affordable summer camp, fitness classes, employment, and friends can be found. What a great loss to this community if the YMCA, our home, closes its doors.
