It’s unprofessional to cancel grad ex and keep away from exposure students who have worked so hard for 4 years, and it would be unsafe exposing students and staff to the virus. This is scary lolz

Camila Garcia (Toronto , 2020-03-13)

The situation is getting serious, there need to be an art school to be the first to take actions.

At a time when everyone should be social distancing it doesn’t make sense to require students to continue to work under the gun to make deadlines for an event that isn’t happening, we can’t work on 6 foot paintings from home. We need to postpone everything so we can safely work in our studios and have the final event we’ve spent 4+ years and $24 000+ Working towards.

For many students like me, we have worked 7+ months for this show. #gradex is a huge part of what we look forward to within our four years at #ocaduniversity . It has elevated many talented artists' and designers' careers. It brings many different ppl into the city, making it one of the most unique events of the year. To cancel gradex and not classes, shows where the institution's priorities lie. Publicly announcing this without notifying students first also reveals how unimportant the students are to the school. It's unfortunate that ocad tends to fall short to meet students' needs, especially at a point where we imagined to leave ocad with a positive note, showing our work with the resources we deserve. I strongly suggest to reconsider this rushed decision and postpone the event as it means a great deal to many of us.

Grad ex is very important for jobs and networking for OCAD students. While I understand the need for containment of the virus, I believe cancelling now instead of planning to postpone to a later date is extremely detrimental to this graduating year.

I’m extremely scared and worried about the outbreak I feel scared daily I travel an hour to union station to school and home again each day and I am concerned for my family and my health

I'm signing because I am in my fourth year at OCAD. I have been looking forward to GradEX for years and have been working towards building a thesis that will showcase my skill to the public. I am also concerned about my health. Classes should be canceled for the health and safety of the community.

The grad show has been buried deep in our throats every year because this is an opportunity once in a lifetime and our professors emphasize that we would not get this opportunity again in our careers. We have worked years for this moment that we end up not getting. I am understanding of the circumstances, but OCAD also needs to be willing to take the extra steps to have OCAD's 105th Graduate Exhibition be displayed out of support for students starting their careers.

Grad Ex was important to me ever since I was a first-year student. It was all that I kept looking forward to and to learn about the cancellation of an event that I know most of everyone else was looking forward to as well, it's devasting. It should be postponed rather than cancelled. Every graduating student deserves to have THEIR Grad Ex to finish their last year off with something memorable and worthwhile.

Salima Rasheed (Markham, 2020-03-13)

#128

So the graduating class went above and beyond their skill sets just to have GradEx taken away? Don't stress the importance of GradEx if you're just going to cancel it without thinking about how much it will impact the students.

Sabrina Singh (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#130

I'm a 2020 graduate. I deserve the same benefits graduates before me have had. Please do not cancel it outright, postpone GradEx until the situation gets better.

Meighan Morson (Toronto , 2020-03-13)

I believe the continuation of school is counter-productive and invalidates any public health countermeasures that are being taken by other organizations; for example, churches are closing for fear of the contagion, and attending school completely negates any positive effect this action would have. Thousands of students are exposed to possible danger throughout their commute on the TTC and other transit routes.

Carrie Ma (Toronto, 2020-03-13)

#133

I’m signing because there needs to be action to protect student and faculty at our school

I am a student paid for full tuition, i didnt receive the notice first hand, and the decision is ridiculous, our 4 yr efforts were all gone just by a decision made in few hours saying its cancelled

I worked my ass off for this and so did everyone else! We should at least postpone this and not completely screw everyone over because someone coughed.

Caitlyn Davidson (Ajax , 2020-03-13)

I think health and safety is more important to cancel school rather than cancelling an official exhibition for graduating students!! - the virus could become weaker throughout the months, but as of now it is more important to make sure students and faculty are healthy!!!

I am a student at OCADU who commutes and has a compromised immune system. I miss a lot of class as is due to heath complications, and would rather be safe than sorry concerning mine and others health. Plus Grad Ex deserves to still happen. The graduates work incredibly hard all year long and that should not go to waste.

Arden Cahill (Hamilton, 2020-03-13)

#200

All OCADU graduates deserve a chance to exhibit their hard work at the end of the year. We have spent so many months working on thesis, we want to be able to show others our work and also have a chance to meet the public/ future clients and share our stories, have a chance to get hired. It is unfair to cancel GradEx. The 2020 graduates deserve the right to show their work just as much as the previous years.
