Against the movement of homeless people to our soccer field. Move them to designated homeless shelters around cape town

Olivia Arrow (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#6

This is ridiculous! Crime will increase, property value decrease. Is Strandontein a joke

Wade Paulse (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#7

There was no communtiy consultation. We have one police van for the entire area. Crimes willl increase our infrastructure cant handle it. 2000 ppl could have put in the city empty buildings why not good wood sports field or are the white ppl going to complain

Kossain Mk (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#9

Crime hazard

Zaakirah Isaacs (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#13

I'm signing because its not good for Strandfontein people having these people in our area . don't get me wrong u understand the current situation but why here. These people may contribute to crime in our area.

Adriaan-jack Booysen (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#19

I am against this movement. You, the City, are using our area as a scapegoat to hide your insufficiency and we do not want to bear the brunt of your selfishness. You know that you have no intention of relocating the homeless from the sportsfield after the lockdown. I am against your decision!

Alison Witbooi (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#20

How many sports fields are their in cape Town with better facilities to house these homeless people... I am not unsympathetic to them but we already have 3 sites dragging characters to our neighborhood... Behind Wavecrest... 7de laan and opposite church street. There are those people that's genuinely trying to make a living for themselves living in this areas and others that are just using the space ofr mischief. One don't know who is sincere and needy or whether you are feeding the hand that's stealing from you. Now 2000 more people to be housed in our small community? Crime is already out of control

Salma Gabier (Strandfontein , 2020-04-02)

#24

Because it's not humane to help people that are homeless and still not put a roof over there heads.... There are empty factories standing open and stadiums with better facilities or is there plan to move people there with winter coming for them to die.... And we all know they not going to remove people from the field afterwards because they haven't remove people as yet from the other settlements.... Even homeless people needs a roof over there heads...

Anndrea Christian (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#26

This is not right towards the community

Bevan Suliaman (Cape town , 2020-04-02)

#31

I'm signing because I agree that the people must be moved elsewhere

Tristan Kelly (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#34

We are used to seeing homeless people and feeding them. It's a good opportunity to introduce these homeless souls to the leafier Suburbs where homeless people dont get a 2nd glance.

Glen Johannes (Montague Gardens, Milnerton, Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#35

Because history repeating itself as when we were cast aside in the 70's to the furthest area from the city. Forgotten and neglected then, the same will be repeated!

Nigel Sims (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#40

Strandfontein infrastructure is already taking stain with the community growing and squatter camps in the area growing. We have seen the result of this recently with our water contamination. Also our resources are stretched to the max , our Saps is hopelessly under resourced and finding difficulty coping with the communities needs . Surely this burden can be shared across the metropole . It is high time the affluent areas take ownership as well

Paul Daniels (Cape town , 2020-04-02)

#45

It is unfair to us living in strandfontein that we have not been asked for them to move the homeless in....we feel we will then have to support them like we already doing for the informal settlements around strandfontein....we have for long been keeping our mouths and accepting what gov dumps in our area.....WELL WE HAD ENOUGH!!!WE DIK AND WE TAKING A STAND TOGETHER.....PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE!!!!!!!!!

Nicky Clayton (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#46

No consultation with residents.

Ingrid Johnson (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#49

I do not see how it is in the interest of everyone to move people in an area without proper sanitation

Anthea Abels (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#58

There are better ways to help the homelessness

Bradley Marthinus (Capetown , 2020-04-02)

#60

This is unacceptable, there are many other areas where the can place the homeless people , Strandfontein has enough problems as it is and this will only make it worse!!

Theo Fray (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#61

The most glaring violation of human rights is happening on our doorstep, perpetuated by the City of Cape Town .

Homeless people are sent to languish like rubbish in a landfill site on the periphery of society, where they are completely invisible and erased from the affluent leafy suburbs.

The City of Cape Town has failed (or not preferred) to ensure adequate and safe facilities to accommodate human beings in light of the Covid-19 pandemic by sending the homeless (by the thousands) to a cold, windy, damp facility without proper water and sanitation facilities which just a few weeks ago, was the epicentre of major cross contamination, which left dozens of residents sick.

Mario Oostendurp (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#62

There are more feasible options available that have been overlooked for housing the homeless. The Strandfontein Sports Complex is not nearly humanely suitable for this purpose. The number of people to be accommodated is too huge.

Gerard Kemp (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#64

I am a Strandfontein resident

Shameez Van Niekerk (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#67

It is unsafe and terrible conditions for the homeless.

Roger Quinn (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#69

Try William Herbert sports field with a golf course and the army massive grounds. Ideal for control and space.

Farrouk Ismail (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#72

We as residents are opposed to 2000 homeless people being moved into our community without our consultation

Laurentia Jantjies (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#77

I am directing affected by the fact that the little recreational facilities available to our community, will now also be taken away from us. I'm unhappy that we do not have sufficient policing for the community as it already is, no sufficient Healthcare facilities for our community as is, yet 2000+ homeless people are brought into a sinking ship with putting everyone else at risk

Porcia Griffith (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#79

My son plays soccer and practice on the field. What happens when lockdown is over and they refuse to move???? Amount of ppl 2000 defeats the purpose of social distancing

Bahia Abdurahman (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#80

I am against moving 2000 homeless people into our area

Garth Herbert (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#84

I live right a cross the field, we have a lot of older folk on this street with chronic conditions, apart from the stress, they are trying their best to stay indoors to avoid Covid-19, but with this new addition, they could face Alot more. Not right that community was never consulted

Colleen Ward (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#88

We were not informed about this and yes agree to send these people to constantia area and see what will happen

Sean Williams (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#92

We were not consulted in the matter, will soccer matches just be none existant after lockdown?and what guarantee do we have that these people will leave?

Desiree Abrahams (Strandfontein,Mitchells plain, 2020-04-02)

#93

This is not a suitable place for them please I pray u use ur brains government

lauren van der merwe (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#95

I'm signing this petition because the crime & drugs & house breakins are already so rife in the Strandfontein area. Who say the CoCT is going to place these people after the lockdown period is over. Because of the shortage of police officers there is already a drop in the visibility of patrols in the area. The elderly of the community is at risk for the high crime rate. People don't go and report the crime. Thank you

Jocelyn Hartzenberg (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#100

Crime and safety hazard.

JUDY KOERIES (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#105

Its firstly inhumane to lock 2000plus people into a confined space when we are supposed to be kept apart.
Secondly...bathroom and toilet facilities in a confined space that's a health hazard.
Thirdly...where do you move them to when the time is up!
This is an unhealthy situation.
Why dont you use the Cape Town Stadium. It is much bigger and it already has bathroom facilities.

Rene Jacobs (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#108

There are adequate spaces in the actual southern suburbs to place the 2000 people. Instead of placing them 30 minutes away from the southern suburbs, on a field that gets extremely cold at night - 5 minutes away from the ocean.

Charlise Finch (Cape town, bay view , 2020-04-02)

#110

Not happy at all

Clifford Rafferty (Strandfontein , 2020-04-02)

#113

Send them to the leafy suburbs, CoCT will clean there soonest, after lock down

Joey May (Strandfontein , 2020-04-02)

#120

I'm signing because it appears that leafy suburbs get preferential treatment. Why not house homeless on William Herbert sports field. J.P. Smith must stop trying to run the city like a his a dictator. He must stop favouring certain sections of Cape Town

Ryan Hammond (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#122

Its an increase in social ills in the area, we have two police vans one van is always broken whose responsibility does it become to get these ppl out if they refuse to move after lockdown, provincial, national government is taking full advantage of the open cheque to cover up past corruption by making the homeless situation a covid19 coverup

Charmaine Williams (Strandfontein , 2020-04-02)

#124

1..No consultation
2..Better places to house..
3..No ablutions
4..stadia has these in place
5..first rains and these fields will turn into a quagmire..

Mark Davis (Cape town , 2020-04-02)

#130

I live in Strandfontein

Chadwin solomon (mitchells plain, 2020-04-02)

#134

There are many open plots in Constantia, plattekloof and all areas where nothing like this affects them in the least.

Fadiel Isaacs (Cape town , 2020-04-02)

#137

Because we were not consulted

Natalie Daniels (Strandfontein , 2020-04-02)

#138

Safety.. We live opposite the sportsfield.

Naazneen Adams (Cape toeb, 2020-04-02)

#139

Use Constantia

Vanchanzo Wang (Mitchells Plain, 2020-04-02)

#141

The location is inadequate and non habitable for humans etc

Lawrence Manasse (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#144

We as a community was not even consultated about the homeless people and refugees being moved to Strandfontein soccer field. It is not an ideal place for them to live.

Loula Davus (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#145

I’m against moving 2000 people onto our community sports field because I know coct doesn’t care or consider us in anything

Judy De beer (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#148

Not Happy Many Other Places That Could Have Been Utilized

.Gerard Muller (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#149

We don't want crime to increase

Chadwick Solomons (Strandfontein , 2020-04-02)

#150

- we as ratepayers were never consulted
- we have enough informal dwellings in our area as it already stands
- we will not be able to remove these people once the lockdown is lifted
- what if they start roaming our area and they are infected then what?
- our ward councillor already does not look after the community and now to add more people
- why not set up shelters in municipal halls? Goodhope Centre etc why here? Why not In Constantia, Bishops Court, Upper Claremont, Rondebosch East etc??

Melanie Lawrence (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#152

The risk is way to big and the grounds is not the best suited. The police in Strandfontein cannot service the area as it stands and added more people will impose a risk to the residents

Marco Hartogh (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#156

I'm against the sports field being used to house thousands of people which will bring with it many issues. No to using the sports field.

Lindsay Lloyd (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#159

Because I have n say.......

Phil Clark (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#160

The health risk associated with housing 2000 homeless people on the Strandfontein sports field. What will happen once the21 days lock down has ended. Where will this people be accomodated

Naomi Philander (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#163

I am not in favour of being boxed in by more destituted persons. We have several areas already impacted with informal dwellers and these persons lurk the streets at all hours. STOP doing this in our Coloured communities. I agree set these persons up in the leafy less polluted areas in South Peninsula!

Edwina Salie (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#166

Because the crime rate is already high in our area because of gangsters and people selling illegal things...2000 extra people is goin to over crowd our area and might cause unnecessary problems for residents in strandfontein

Zainoedien Solomons (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#171

Not because l am against helping but it's inhumane to put them on a open piece of field no running water toilets and the enormous amount.Knowing and not trusting coct they will not abide by their promises and we will be stuck with.the forgotten people another blikkiesdorp in the making l did not even mention the escalation of crime with our limited police resources.

Felicity Stagler (Strandfontein Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#172

Because I don't want our community at risk to the Coronavirus

Paul Anthony Jackson (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#175

Strandfontein sports grounds are not suitable for a living being. We already do not have enough SAPS manpower to cover all areas in strandfontein whether security will be placed there. Government members promises but it's not kept. Our area is always underlooked if needs arises from the community.

Mandy Presence (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#178

Im concerned about after lockdown. Will this then be a new norm for us. Our area will be degraded and our houses value will drop.

Roberta Groenewald ( Strandfontein Cape Tpwn, 2020-04-02)

#180

It's gona be a huge problem ,people is gona break in,

Charlene Jansen (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#183

I do not want these people to live on our fields purely for the sake of them not ever leaving again.
How can government be so naive and just dump homeless people on a sports field and expect them just to leave once the epidemic is finish.
We all know you cannot evict a family that does not have a place to go “government rules”!!!!!
This is bullshit!!!
Our fields are for our children of our community!!!!not a habbitable place!

Taariq Salie (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#185

Don’t think it’s a good idea

Rezaa Fredericks (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#187

The CoCT makes these decisions without recourse or consulting with the residents of Strandfontein. The sports field isn't a safe place for them to stay. There's isn't any medical hospital in the area and police is already under strain... The DA's days are now numbered...

Quintin Steer (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#189

I have been living in Strandfontein for 38yrs. I have seen this beautiful area go from incredible to dangerous. My kids are not allowed outside because of the crime. I am all for helping homeless people, however I fear the community will be then exposed to more crime and potentially worse drugs abuse. Please consider the residents of our community. The area is already overwhelmingly crowded with very little recreational sites.

Jodi Green (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#190

It Is way to dangerous for the homeless to be staying in Strandfontein for residents.

Tahnee Hartogh (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#193

We are all homeowners in Strandfontein. We own our properties, we are a built up area. We are rate payers.

Stacey Lamore (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#195

It's ice cold, icy windy and very damp near the ocean, not good for people to live on with bad chests, even for short term. If it rains, there is no drainage, also its infested with moles. There are so many holes in the ground, people can get seriously hurt. It's unethical at all levels. Plus it's bringing foreign people to our area... Which can create more crime. Yes, its fenced but people can still jump over even with cops around. There are better fields inland, with better facilities for the homeless.

Nazruwesa Johnson (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#196

Once the lockdown is over what then. Do these people stay here.
Are we going to get assistance when crim rate increases.

Semone Arendse (Strandfontein Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#197

There is much better facilities in place already e.g. stadiums with hundred plus toilets and showers. Why use an already limited budget to have to rent these ? Inhumane to send homeless people not far from a beach and house them in tents.

Quintin Griffith (Cape Town , 2020-04-02)

#199

This is a spit in the face of Strandfontein residents. Nobody is ok with having 2000 homeless people stationed here when there are far better locations that could have been used with better facilities for the homeless. Our police department and staff are already not equipped to handle normal day to day activities. This is a global pandemic and you’re adding 2000 homeless people without consulting us. I am strongly against this proposal. Please consider other alternatives as we are sick and tired of being used. We already know that the people will not be contained in the designated area and this will put our families and neighbours as we know the crime will increase.

Sherwin Cooke (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#200

We are not safe as it is already in our area, our kids are having problems at school being bullying by 7de laans kids and our house value will drop, I don't think that is fair on rates pays and home owners to experience the down fall of what mite happen to our small community.
