Petition of Support for Wausau School District Administration to Fully Open School

I strongly believe schools need to be open for in-person learning 5 days a week, including Sports programs with NO MASK REQUIREMENTS or overbearing polices that make normal sport activities impossible!!!! Science shows that Low risk people have no significant problem handling this virus and virtually zero risk of dying, which is basically 99% of people. Children and adolescents rarely, if ever, transmit the disease. In fact, Sweden NEVER closed their schools or economy and has the lowest pediatric infection rate in the world! Germany, Denmark, Norway, and many other countries also have their schools open fully with NO PROBLEMS!!!

Kids have to get back to face to face school. This virus is not deadly to children. They’re more likely to die from the flu. Enough is enough.

I'm signing because I believe the children need to be back in school for the sake of their education.

It is essential for our children’s mental, physical & social health that the schools open for in-person learning 5 days a week!!! With sports & activities! And with NO MASKS! Children have essentially no risk!!! Just like the cold & flu this is not going away and the overwhelming majority of people have mild symptoms if anything. For those that are ignorantly scared, you can live the rest of your life locked in your house, for the rest of us our tax dollars pay for physical schools with real teachers!!! OPEN the SCHOOLS!!!

As a former teacher and current parent of an elementary student, I believe the most ideal environment for learning for the majority of children is the classroom. It’s time to stop the fear-mongering and get back to the classroom! Thank you!

I believe there are safe strategies for getting our children back in school with their teachers and friends. It is time to move forward with education which all of us are paying for. AND do it safely!

I am a private music teacher and I’ve seen how schools being closed as hurt students. These students are used to learning from their teachers. I also think schools being closed has had a negative impact on the mental health of students.

Kids need to be in school. A child's mind will not develop properly if they do not have direct contact with their teacher and other students.

I am concerned for the mental and social health of the children.

Paula Meadows (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#112

I completely believe that children need a structured learning environment. We need our children taught by teachers. Less than that, we are causing poor learning and letting them down.

Ron Zahrt (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#115

It is the most important issue affecting me right now

Jamie Stuedemann (Kronenwetter , 2020-07-22)

#116

The younger generation needs to have social interaction, they need face to face with their peers. The learning environment is much easier for most kids with hands on, and in a group setting.

Jacki Lacerte (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

I'm signing this petition because my 3 children need to get back into school. We home schooled them for a year and they unanimously decided that they prefer to go to school. My 16 year old has already said that if they are forced to do virtual school or limited in person. School, he will do the absolute bare minimum to pass, which means he will not learn anything. I believe that he is not alone in this thought process. They miss their teachers, their friends, the social interaction and routine of being in school.

Sarah Ruffi (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

I have friends and loved ones who attend the Wausau school district who are desperately wanting and needing the normalcy that school provides. It's time Wausau. It's time. This has destroyed enough people's lives. Let's get back to living.

Trish Hartwig (Schofield, 2020-07-22)

#125

This political madness has to end and we need to go BACK to a normal life and these meds need to go back to school

Randy Pagel (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#128

I'm signing because our students need in-classroom learning--both for the academic health and mental health of our young people today. Learning online is not the same. Let's be brave and take this approach and see how well it works--for the students' sake.

Betty Dotseth (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

I believe and understand we can safely open schools this fall. Parents of school age children will not be able to keep their employment if they are required to stay home with their children even part time. It is not good mental health for children to be separated and restricted from socializing with their peers. The true statistics of this virus do not warrant such drastic action. Even using masks will be disastrous because children will be constantly touching and adjusting their masks; sneezing, coughing into them, noses running from even allergies. There are real dangers from rebreathing all viruses and germs, hypoxia and allergies to mask materials while wearing a mask that are not being addressed at all.

Robin Baker (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

I believe it is in the best interest of our children.

#135

I feel the schools should open.

Debra Maccagnano (Weston, 2020-07-22)

#137

I believe schools should be re- opened. If parents are not comfortable sending their children, they should have the option for distance learning.

John Schult (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#139

Kids are suffering from isolation, parents are frustrated . For some school is a safe place. They need friends they need to learn we cannot lose a more time on no education. Virtual learning is not for those younger than high school. .001 die from this virus most can fight it with no lasting effects. If you don’t open this years you may not open next year or the year after

Carrie Steckbauer (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

I feel comfortable sending my children to school in the fall. If the data changes that students are severely affected by COVID more so than other illness they could pick up I will reevaluate.

Heather Haupt (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#155

Our kids deserve the best education experience. The consequences of a lockdown and the effects on our children's mental health scare me more than any virus. Let's get the kids back to school!

Dawn Dietsche (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#156

My kids need to be in school for learning, too much missed with virtual format and daughter with special needs cannot adapt to virtual learning

Miriam Marting (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#158

My kids need the structure and social aspects of being in physical school. I am, as well as my children(8th and 11th grade), feel completely comfortable going to school. There are many essential workers(i am one) that have continued to go to work during this whole pandemic, teachers should have to as well. There are many ways to mitigate risks. I also feel, as a taxpayer, I should not have to pay for schools to sit empty when intended to be full.

Tamara Sillars (wausau , 2020-07-22)

#159

I'm signing this because our students are falling behind. Our parents, as hard as they have tried are not teachers. These students have the least chance of being sick. They need to be together to boost their immune function, herd immunity. The vaccine that will be released will be made for the virus when it was present in March. It has now mutated so it will be untested for its effectiveness or it's safety.

Michael Borski (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#161

For some students, the only sense of normalcy is school. For some, it’s their only meal. They need to go back in the fall. Thank you!

Susan Hoenecke (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

Raymond Dabler (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#167

I feel it is a serious disservice to our children especially those in the elementary schools. They did Not learn much through virtual learning.

Susan Schilling (Abbotsford , 2020-07-22)

#172

I am in favor of in person classroom teaching. Precautions should be taken but we must give our kids the education that they deserve.

Corrie Merklein (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#175

They need contact with a teacher

Tom Gerum (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

#177

Kids need to be schooled in a proper environment. Teachers are trained to teach in a classroom setting, parents are not. Our taxes already paid for this.

Kevin McCarthy (Kronenwetter, 2020-07-22)

#179

My kids need school!

Rachel Ohrmundt (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

I think it is vital for our kids to return to school for their academic as well as emotional and mental well-being. I am confident safety measures can be put in place to minimize risk to students, teachers and staff.

Tere Murphy (Wausau, 2020-07-22)

I want my kids to return to return to HS.

Angie White (WAusau , 2020-07-22)

I have a senior at West. The benefits of returning to school (interactions, relationships, activities) outweigh the risks, fears. Our family believes we can move forward with our lives while still being as safe as possible.

Jennifer Hockin (Wausau , 2020-07-22)

#197

I'm signing this because kids need to learn, make friends, and have time experience out of the house like everyone else did. I dont want the next generation thinking that staying home and catiously being distant is normal. And if most parents feel comfortable with children going back to school, they should be allowed to.

Zaikang Kue (Merrill, 2020-07-22)

#198

Kids need to get back to school, you can’t keep them home.
