It s part of our history. Keep the beautiful boat so the next generation can learn some history of the WW11 war

The history of the tug Norton from WWII and renamed the Peninsula while working on Lake Superior for so many years - the ship is too important to be cut up for scrap.

It would be a nice tourist attraction

There is so much history involved .....we need our history to continue and understand our future.

This historical artifact would be a star world-class attraction for Marathon area, especially if we combine it with a Tourist Information Centre and new museum building. This ship (HMCS Norton) along with the HMCS Sackville (Corvette) (located in Halifax) and the HMCS Haida (Destroyer) (Located in Hamilton) are no doubt the only WWII Canadian warships still intact.

I believe this tug should be used for tourism in Marathon. It has alot of history for the Marathon region.

Joyce Graham (Edmonton, 2020-08-14)

The peninsula is a good boat and should be on display. My grandfather was a caption on it for a few years in Thunder Bay And this boat should be saved.

The town needs the tug for historical purposes as a tourist attraction

Helen Honan (Marathon, 2020-08-16)

I would like to see the tug setup as a museum and i believe marathon needs it as a tourist attraction

I'm signing because it is an important piece of history for the town and a great tourist attraction

As much as things may not have been properly thought out or executed in bringing the tug home, it is here now after many people donated money and time. It would be tragic to take something that means so much to many and has so much potential to attract tourism to be dismantled at this point. To me it’s another missed opportunity for tourism dollars coming into our town.

The mill and woody and play an important part in the history of Marathon.
I understand the financial burden of moving it. Look to the future, the tourist revenue it will draw.

The historical value and for whatever tourism it may draw.

I’m signing this petition as I think it has a huge historical value. The committee have done so much work trying to move this boat to its new location and have done an amazing job painting the outside. It will be a tourist attraction as well. I have toured it and would definitely go again. You don’t see everything in just one visit.

It is the right thing to do.

I grew up in Marathon and consider it my hometown.
The Peninsula was an important part of Marathon history. I do believe it should be preserved!

I think it’s a great opportunity for this town. It would be great to see what the outcome would be. I am really tired of all the negativity over this tugboat. Time to put a positive spin on this situation. We paid good money to get the tug here. Now that it’s here time to finish the project safety. 💗🤔🤔

I believe that tourism is important to our community and the tug boat would be a great attraction. We have the tug boat and with a little work grants can be accessed and the town could show that they care for the community and what we have to offer. It is not all about hockey and golf.

For example :
Terrace Bay has a beautiful light house in the middle of the Main Street. There are numerous promotions for the town using the light house as a feature. I would guess that the Boat would generate a large amount of interest for our town

I worked in Marathon in the 70s and know Stan from the steam plant in the pulp mill. I agree with his efforts to restore the tug for tourists through The historic Society.

As a former resident of Marathon I was very happy to hear that the town raised money to bring the Peninsula tug home. I am now completely shocked and disappointed that the town council is not supporting whatever it takes to help get the Peninsula established as a permanent historical site in Marathon. I really hope you reconsider.

This boat was a veteran of WW2 and also was used by the mill for many years. I can’t believe council is abandoning this project when this boat has such history when the eyesore LAV monument is ok

Marathon needs to have a destination for tourism to help the economy.

There is alot History behind it. It dhows well and a site where Tourists could come to. Make it comfortable. Put a few Benches to sit and view . An engraved Post that tells all . Could and would be a great stopping post and attraction. Yes i would like it to stay.....This town was built on help from this boat. Has great History !

It is important to save such a historical part of Marathon and the long history of this tug! Many of us grew up in Marathon and the Peninsula was often seen in the Bay!!!! It would be extremely sad after all the time and effort put into saving this significant piece of history to see it destroyed!

My Grandfather George Matheson was the Captain of the DC Everest. Marathon should be proud of the unique maritime history of the town and do all it can to preserve the symbols of that history.

I was a Naval Architect and ship builder for more than 40 years. I love ships and the this tug hauling the log rafts to Marathon. What I find very interesting is the designation HMCS. Was this a naval vessel at one time. 25 ago the D.C. Everst was sold for $ 500k as scrap, it also should have been preserved as a museum ship in Marathon, alas I didn't have enough $$$.

Mark Klimaszewski (Medicine Hat, 2020-08-23)

I am signing because of the historic sgnifcance of the vessel as WWII relic and as significant icon from the wood rafting and hauling age in the history in the town of Marathon.

This tug is the last of it's kind and due to her history belongs in Marathon.
