Investigate the Dunoon Dam as an option to guarantee water supply.

I am signing this petition because I think it would be irresponsible not to at least investigate the Dunoon Dam option as one of many possible solutions to provide the region with water security for decades to come.

I also believe the Dunoon Dam will assist with flood mitigation, and it will provide an additional easily accessible water source to assist when fighting bush fires.

I believe the evidence based process is not being respected and personal ideology and party politics is determining the outcome.

We need to provide a secure and sustainable water source for the northern rivers. Our existing source is allready beyond its original design capacity.

Scott Robinson (Woodburn , 2021-02-11)

#6

I believe we need a new dam to be able to have enough water to sustain the population into the future.

Paul Moretti (Lismore, 2021-02-11)

#7

We need water to survive. Charging more for water doesn't solve the shortage problem and should have been started over 10yrs ago

Jan Allen (Casino, 2021-02-11)

#8

We need ******* water and tanks go dry in droughts.

Baedon Lumley-Mancell (Lismore, 2021-02-11)

#12

I want water security for the future, as I have minimized my water usage, it is only going to get worse with the fast growing population in the area.

Brad Lancaster (Lismore, 2021-02-11)

#13

This is a viable option that needs to be seriously looked at to ensure we have a sufficient water supply.

Jenny Hunter (Goonellabah , 2021-02-11)

#15

As the population grows we are running out of water. The dam is the most cost effective water security option on the table. Plundering the aquifers would be a disaster and
why would costly desalination and toilet to tap be considered in the wettest area in NSW???

We need this dam for water security for the future of this area

John Bowen (SOUTH LISMORE, 2021-02-12)

#25

The area has grown considerably and the dam capacity is not enough during times of drought. Other times during very high rainfall we lose all this free water to the river and out to sea. I don't believe in tapping into the underground water table, as what will happen if that dries up.

Sandra Arthur (Lismore, 2021-02-12)

#26

I live in the area and believe that this is better than robbing the aquafa we need more water as more block areas are developed and more people need to be serviced.

Sue Green (Rosebank NSW 2480, 2021-02-12)

#31

We need to ensure that we have a kaecure and reliable source of safe water for our increasing population

Helen Cooling (Lismore, 2021-02-12)

#34

Without a better alternative, there is no rationale reason to not progress with the dam. To kick the can further down the road is not good enough. Especially when there is a finite timeline and window of opportunity to secure the water security of the Northern Rivers.

Graeme Bray (Lismore, 2021-02-12)

I believe we urgently need this dam

Such significant infrastructure, that effects a significant population deserves to be fully investigated before decisions are made regarding whether it should be constructed or not.

We are going to need a secure source of water

Jeff Dickson (Lismore, 2021-02-13)

I lived in Lismore through one of the worst droughts, the dam was at 11%, I don't want that to happen again. This area will not progress without a good water supply. I love the Northern Rivers.

All water security options must be considered going forward.

Susan Meehan (Ballina, 2021-02-15)

I’m signing this because more TIME and Consultation with all North Coast residents needs to occur. Most people that so chat with have not heard the pros and cons of all options. This decision has implications for all of us for generations so should not be rushed through so quickly with so little wide community consultation.

John Noble (ALSTONVILLE, 2021-02-15)

We need water reserves for the future growth of our region

Anthony Durheim (Lismore , 2021-02-15)

The dam will supply future water supply as well as a tourist attraction if stocked either Australian bass and other compatible freshwater species of fish

Paul Toms (Ballina, 2021-02-15)

#88

All options should be on the table for full investigation and comparison. Rainfall is this region's unique natural advantage over many other region's of Australia. Let's harness our natural advantage to provide a smart and secure future for everyone and every living thing.

I beleive we need a water supply to keep up with the massive influx of new residents arriving in our area, we can't afford to sit idle and hope the Dam we have will sustain our area when many more people are using it

I agree when need a better water supply

Debbie Newlands (EAST LISMORE, 2021-02-16)

#108

This development is the only real viable option. No aquifer in this area is sustainable especially in time of a drought. Recycled water a great idea but it’s not a solution for drinking water. The technology is not reliable at the moment.
Yes there are issues with the proposed site however these could be further investigated and mitigation measures put in place to over come.

Steve Prosser (North Lismore, 2021-02-16)

#111

Im signing because I believe this is a viable option at a lesser cost then other more expensive ideas

Joel Hensen (Lismore, 2021-02-16)

#112

I am deeply concerned that the Dunoon Dam option has been taken off the table without proper consideration by all people living in the Ricmond River Valley. Water conservation alone will not provide an adequate future water supply for our ever growing urban population.

Vincent Kelly (Ballina, 2021-02-16)

#114

The population keeps growing, we need more water.

Margaret Redford (Lismore, 2021-02-17)

#115

This area has a growing population and it needs more water storage. It's just that simple. Without water life dose not exist.

Darren Slattery Slattery (South Lismore, 2021-02-17)

#116

I’m sign this because I have confidence in the Rous county council. Water security is import to this region and we know the impacts of a dam. The alternative water sources are not long term solutions they can big very expensive and environmentally costly. The Rous county council has done a wonderful job creating the Rocky Creek dam area. Returning the surrounding farmland into rainforest and I’m confident that the dam project will be the same. With flood gates the creek can be managed easily and may even return to there thriving natural state. Please reconsider the dam.

Think it would be great for the community

John Curran (Keerrong, 2021-02-17)

A Dam provides:
* Tap water during a drought.
* Water for the wildlife during a drought
* Water for fighting bush fires.
* Water to help protect the remaining Big Scrub and endangered species during bush fires especially in drought.
* Can be used for flood mitigation.
* A recreational family and tourist destination such as Rocky Creek Dam.
* Can keep our river running during prolonged drought therefore protecting the aquatic life that depend on it and other wildlife.
* Potential for the dam to be used to produce power.
* A dam is much more appealing to look at and part of the natural environment rather then looking at a De-sal plant or recycled water faculty if we are talking one or the other. We should have recycled and a dam really.

With careful consideration given to the indigenous people and calm sensible discussion I am sure they too would see this as the best option for their people too. They could be allowed to hold a ceremony for their sacred site before the dam was built acknowledging it would be cover with the life giving sacred waters need for their people's future and if they felt the need, be given opportunity to choose another sacred site between Rocky Creek and Dunoon Dam that would never be part of a dam or other structure. The current site was once just land before it was chosen. Life changes and we all must be willing to accept the changes that must happen for us to survive. No matter what colour our skin or what our beliefs are.

No other option provides everything we need for the future extremes in dry and wet predicted in the future.

Recycled water is great BUT you can recycle water if their is no water to be able to use in the first place. It relies on regular rain to provide the initial water. It also relies in many more pieces of the puzzle to fit together. If one part fails it could mean no water. A dam is there. Even if the facilities that move it to taps breaks down..the water is there and could still be collected if needed.

No other water providing measure can provide all that a dam can for us here in this area.

Louise Frare (Goonellabah, 2021-02-23)

#132

Expenditure of current proposals with the trailing costs would impose enormous financial difficulties for future water users compared to retention and enlargement of dam

Barry Lampard (Lismore , 2021-02-24)

#133

I believe we need to both conserve water and plan for drought with an increasing north coast population.

Julia Kelly (Ballina, 2021-02-24)

#136

My water bills are very expensive already

Chrystal Crozier (Goonellabah, 2021-02-26)

#138

I agree with the dam being built due to a projected water shortage in this area by 2025.

Brad Weir (EAST LISMORE, 2021-02-28)

#143

We need the Dunoon dam to secure our water for the future

Paul Stuckey (Lismore, 2021-02-28)

Our childrens future is at stack.

Aden Perry (Coraki, 2021-04-16)

#171

The way the population is increasing we are going to need a lot more water than what is proposed without building the dam.

John Ireland (Kyogle, 2021-04-19)

#175

This is the only rational option

Philip Shaw (Tyagarah, 2021-04-25)

#176

I am signing in support of the dam proposal as it represents the most reliable and most cost efficient method of ensuring first world standard of potable water for the region .
As a secondary consideration it may possibly assist with flood mitigation.
Alstonville aquifer may prove unreliable depending on other possible events.

Max McLennan (Ballina , 2021-05-01)

We need this Dam. There are NO VIABLE ALTERNATIVES-only wishful thinking.
